The current study has as its objective to analyze the relationship between students’ attitude towards learning English and  the procrastinating behavior at the academic level. Attitudes strengthen people’s motivation to learn a foreign language  (Delfín, 2007), and procrastination, which involves unjustified delaying of activities, causes negative consequences in  completing academic tasks postponement of responsibilities (Rodríguez & Clariana, 2017). The design was correlational,  and the sample consisted of 55 students learning English. The instruments were the Attitudes towards English language  learning questionnaire and the academic procrastination questionnaire. According to the results, evidence shows that  there is a positive median relationship between the variables, leading us to conclude that despite having positive attitudes towards learning English, procrastinating behavior does not diminish. The results of this study could be utilized in  bilingual programs, or those could also be utilized to implement curricula in language programs at schools or universities. The idea is that higher education institutions include, as mandatory, the instruction of English as a global language.   How to cite this article: Marquina Luján, R. J., Huaire Inacio, E. This research study focuses on the students’ perception on the use of mobile phones in EFL learning in the context of Nepal. It aims to investigate how the students are taking smart phones as a means for EFL learning in their educational experience. The study was carried out among the students of the bachelor level at Dhankuta Multiple Campus. It was largely informed by a phenomenological approach in order to examine the students’ experiences of using mobile phones in EFL learning. The semi- structured interview was held to collect the required data. Results indicate that all participants have positive attitudes on the use of mobile phones in learning English. However, they feel a few difficulties in understanding the text through the mobile phones. They expect supportive guidance and reliable network quality for effective EFL learning. Mobile phones can serve as a useful language learning tool if it is utilized properly for specific purposes. All curriculum developers, syllabus designer and policy makers should consider the space of mobile assisted English language learning in the present curriculum.

This research investigates the interaction between English students learning Chinese in the UK and Chinese students learning English in China via a wiki platform. Activity theory and legitimate peripheral participation theory were employed as a theoretical framework; wiki was embedded as an interactive learning tool. The findings revealed that Chinese native speakers assisted English students learning Chinese as foreign language (CFL) by means of reorganizing word orders and restructuring sentence patterns. The usages of clarification and elaboration were more frequent than the usages of added and deleted information. Both CFL and English as foreign language (EFL) students interacted with each other in attending to language forms through the essay correction and revision process, and the interaction consequently enhanced their target language learning. The study suggests that wiki provides a dynamic platform, which encourages further integration into the syllabus to support foreign language learning.

This paper reports on a case study of a group of six non-native English speaking migrant women’s  experiences learning English vocabulary in a mobile assisted language learning (MALL) environment at a small community centre in Western Australia. A sociocultural approach to learning vocabulary was adopted in designing the MALL lessons that the women undertook. The women provided demographic information, responded to questions in a pre-MALL semi-structured interview, attended the MALL lessons, and completed a post-MALL semi-structured interview. This study explores the sociocultural factors that affect migrant women’s language learning in general, and vocabulary in particular. The women’s responses to MALL lessons and using the tablet reveal a positive effect in their vocabulary learning. A revised version of this paper was published in Interdisciplinary Journal of e-Skills and Life Long Learning Volume 11, 2015

AbstractThis study investigated Afghan students’ attitudes and motivation toward learning English at six different universities in Afghanistan. Several factors were believed to influence their success in learning English (i.e., motivation types as a major factor together with variables, such as gender, grades, fields of study, parental/teacher involvement, language learning anxiety and academic achievement). In searching for a reliable attitudinal profile of the subjects, quantitative research methodology was adopted along with mixed research techniques. The data was collected from 457 university students (273 male and 184 female) and 12 university EFL teachers through questionnaires and interviews. The findings showed that most of the Afghan university students held a positive attitude toward learning English and they were highly influenced by three types of motivation (i.e., instrumental, integrative, and intrinsic). Significant differences were found in the attitudes of students in terms of their fields of study, grades, and language learning anxiety. Interestingly, the findings also showed that some students were demotivated to learn EFL due to the propagation that English will no longer widely be used if NATO and US forces leave Afghanistan. It is suggested that EFL teachers should adopt motivational strategies in their classes to develop students’ positive attitudes and enhance their motivation toward learning EFL.
