Chee is 1 of 4 important native chicken breed in Thailand. Genetic selection can be used to improve growth and carcass performance. The objective of this study was to compare growth and carcass performance of native chickens (Chee) with a population selected for economic traits (Chee KKU12) and natural selection (Chee N). Two hundred Chee KKU12 and Chee N chickens were divided into 5 replicates, 20 chickens per replication. Record growth and carcass quality for data analysis. The results showed that at 12 weeks of age, Chee KKU12 chickens (1,279.484 g) had a higher body weight than did Chee N chickens (1,180.212 g). The averages daily weight gain at 4-6, 6-8, and 0-12 weeks of age of Chee KKU12 chicken (17.861,19.230, and 14.843 grams) was higher than Chee N chickens (16.284, 17.497, and 13.668 g) (P<0.05). The carcass quality with mixed gender showed that Chee KKU12 chickens had higher breast (20.859%) and abdominal fat (0.659%) than Chee N chicken (19.585% and 0.217%, respectively) (P<0.05), but Chee KKU12 chicken thigh (17.007%) was significantly lower than Chee N chickens (18.627%). Regression analysis revealed that the selection of Chee KKU12 chickens for gain in weight will result in better carcass composition including wing (0.074 g), breast (0.089 g), and drumstick (0.134 g), while Chee N chicken had better thigh (0.189 g) when selected for high growth performance (P<0.05). It was concluded that chicken population selected for economic traits has a better growth performance in open housing conditions than naturally selected chickens.

Fattening of farm animals is a way of increasing the rate of meat deposit after maturity. Its effectiveness depends on genetic status of the animal and the diet fed to the animal. In this study, performance and carcass evaluation of balami rams finished on diets with varying energy levels were carried. Forty-eight rams of Balami breed, weighing 20.75±1.50- 22.50±1.91kg were randomly alloted to four dietary energy levels (EL): 2.20Mcal/kg (EL ), I 2.40 Mcal/kg ((EL ), 2.60 Mcal/kg ((EL ) and 2.80 Mcal/kg ((EL ) for 90 days. The feed II III IV intake and daily weight gain of the animals in each treatment were determined and the average recorded. Three Balami rams were randomly selected from each treatment and sacrificed to determine the dressing percentage (DP), carcass weight (CW), fat deposit (FD) and meat yield (MY). Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and ANOVA at á . The 0.05 FBW (kg) of Balami rams in group EL , EL , EL and EL were 41.88.6±1.97, 42.12±1.84, I II III IV 46.13±1.65 and 52.24±2.50 while the FCR of animals on treatments EL (5.3±0.28) and EL I II (5.2±0.26) were higher than EL (4.7±0.82) and EL (4.0±0.65). The DP (%) were 54.9, III IV 54.9, 55.8 and 56.1, the FD (%) were 9.00,9.59,8.92 and 11.46 and the MY (%) were 75.2, 74.7, 75.5 and 72.0 for rams on EL , EL , EL and EL The results indicate that, increasing I II III IV. levels of energy improved growth performance and carcass quality of Balami rams. Therefore, higher level of dietary energy (2.80 Mcal/kgDM and 14% CP) could be suggested for optimizing growth performance and meat quality of Balami ram under fattening condition.

The aim of the present study was to assess effects of selenium (Se)-yeast diet supplementation on performance and carcass composition in ducks. The study was performed on 240 1-day old ducklings of the same origin (Cherry Valley hybrid), during a 49-day period, which were fed diets supplemented with the following four different levels of Se yeast (ALKOSEL® R397): groups with Se at 0 mg/kg of the diet as-fed, 0.2 mg/kg, 0.4 mg/kg and 0.6 mg/kg. Growth performance (bodyweight, daily weight gain, daily feed intake, feed-conversion ratio) and carcass characteristics (hot and cold carcass weight, chilling losses, dressing percentage, carcass cut yields, and percentage of tissues in breast and thighs with drumsticks) of the ducks were determined. Animals fed high-Se diets (0.4 mg/kg) had higher (P &lt; 0.05) final bodyweight and daily weight gain (from 15 to 49 days) compared with those fed diets with inadequate (0 mg/kg) or with supranutritional (0.6 mg/kg) Se levels. Ducks fed only with basal diet showed a higher (P &lt; 0.05) feed-conversion ratio (from 15 to 49 days) compared with those supplemented with Se at 0.4 mg/kg and 0.6 mg/kg. Dressing percentage was higher (P &lt; 0.01) in the control group (69.50%) than in the group with Se added at 0.6 mg/kg (66.85%). The weights of basic cuts from the duck carcasses did not significantly differ among compared groups. Moreover, the percentage of skin with subcutaneous fat in breast and thighs with drumsticks increased in Se-supplemented groups compared with the control group, while the opposite was determined with the percentage of muscle. It was concluded that a diet containing 0.4 mg of added Se per kilogram produced the greatest growth-performance results in ducks.

&nbsp;A dose-response experiment with 5 total dietary threonine (Thr) levels (0.54, 0.64, 0.74, 0.84 and 0.94%) was conducted to study the effect of dietary Thr on growth performance and carcass traits of Yangzhou geese from 0 to 8 weeks of age. Three hundred 1-day-old Yangzhou goslings were randomly allocated to 15 pens with 20 birds (10 males and 10 females) per pen according to similar pen weight. There were 5 dietary treatments, consisting of 3 replicate pens. Weight gain, feed intake and feed/gain of geese from each pen were measured at 2-week intervals from 0 to 8 weeks. At 56 days of age, four geese (2 males and 2 females) were selected randomly from each pen and slaughtered to evaluate the carcass quality. The results showed that an increase in dietary Thr resulted in an increase and then a decrease in daily weight gain in both periods. Peak daily weight gain responses appeared in geese fed the 0.74%Thr diet in both periods (36.120 and 61.96 g, respectively). Thr supplementation significantly affected feed/gain in the 0&ndash;4 week period (P &le; 0.045) and daily feed intake in the 5&ndash;8 week period (P &le; 0.012). No significant linear or quadratic responses from Thr supplementation were observed in growth performance and carcass traits of geese except for eviscerated carcass percentage (quadratic effect, P &le; 0.016). The optimal Thr requirement of Yangzhou geese from 0 to 8 weeks of age was 0.726% for eviscerated carcass percentage. The results of our experiment reported herein would document that the Thr requirements suggested by NRC (1994) for geese up to 8 weeks of age are safe estimates; they may slightly overestimate the requirements but not by a large margin.

There is great variation in lamb carcass quality due to there being many breeds and crosses involved in lamb production. Breed of lamb appears to influence the pattern of development of the important carcass components, and thus the carcass quality, when comparison is made at equal weights. Plane of nutrition may also affect the growth rate, carcass composition and eating quality of lambs of the same genotype. It was planned to study the effect of both breed and diet on growth performance, carcass and meat quality characteristics by feeding two different diets to the lambs of two different breeds similarly managed from birth to slaughter.

To study the effect of photoperiod on growth performance in C. punctatus, the fish were exposed to three combinations of day length i.e. LD 14:10, LD 12:12 and LD 9:15 at 25°C. Variables tested were weight gain, length gain, condition factor, FCR, body composition, VSI and HSI. Fish exposed to long photoperiod showed high growth performance followed by equal and short photoperiod. Significantly low concentration of ammonical nitrogen and orthophosphate in holding water were observed in fish exposed to LD 14:10 as compared to LD 12:12 and LD 9:15. VSI values were significantly high (P0.05) in group of fish exposed to LD 14:10, followed by LD 12:12 and LD 9:15. On the other hand, HSI was significantly decreased in fish exposed to LD 9:15, while HSI values under LD 14:10 and LD 12:12 were equal.

The effects of including a waste chocolate confectionary product in swine diets on growth performance, carcass composition and meat quality of finishing pigs were determined. Four isocaloric, isonitrogenous diets were formulated to include 0, 10, 20 and 30% of a chocolate product in a pelleted corn and soybean-meal-based-diet and fed ad libitum to 32 gilts and 32 barrows from 54 kg to 105 kg. There were no significant differences among diets for average daily gain, feed intake and feed efficiency. Fat content in the diets increased from 3 to 7% with increasing inclusion, but there were no significant (P > 0.05) differences for backfat depth, total dissected fat, total lean or percent lean of the dissected carcass. With respect to meat quality, there were no significant differences observed for colour, structure and marbling of the loin and ham muscle. There were no treatment differences for the firmness of the inner backfat of pigs consuming the various diets. Waste chocolate confectionary can be fed to growing swine at inclusion levels up to 30% of the diet with no adverse effects on growth or carcass quality. The last nutrient management review of black pepper was done in 1968. There is, therefore, a need to develop new technology to improve pepper production and transfer that technology to production site. This experiment was carried out to study the effect of newly developed biochemical fertilizer on some physiological characteristics, yield and soil fertility of pepper. The treatment consisted of T1 (BS): chemical fertilizer (N:12%, P:12%, K:17%); T2 (BK1): biochemical fertilizer F1 N:15%, P:5%, K:14) and T3 (BK2): biochemical fertilizer F2 (N:13%, P:4%, K:12). The biochemical fertilizer F1 out-yielded chemical and biochemical fertilizer F2 by 75.38% and 16.45% respectively with the higher yield being associated with various phonotypical alterations, which are reported here. Significant measureable changes were observed in physiological processes and plant characteristics, such as large leaf area index, more chlorophyll content and high photosynthesis rate coupled with lower transpiration rate in biochemical fertilizer F1(BK1) treatment compared with other treatment. The high fertility level in biochemical fertilizer F1 and biochemical fertilizer F2 (BK2) reflected the important of organic material in improving soil quality. In conclusion, the achieve high growth performance and yield in pepper, chemical fertilizer alone is insufficient whilst combination of organic and inorganic fertilizer with balance nutrient content gave a significant increase in yield and growth of pepper.

Genetic selection in gilthead seabream (GSB), Sparus aurata, has been undertaken to improve the growth, feed efficiency, fillet quality, skeletal deformities and disease resistance, but no study is available to delineate the effect of genetic selection for growth trait on GSB reproductive performance under mass spawning condition. In this study, high growth (HG) or low growth (LG) GSB broodstock were selected to evaluate the sex steroid hormones, sperm, egg quality and reproductive performance under different feeding regime of commercial diet or experimental broodstock diet containing either fish oil (FO) or vegetable oil (VO) based diet. Under commercial diet feeding phase, broodstock selected for either high growth or low growth did not show any significant changes in the egg production per kg female whereas egg viability percentage was positively (p = 0.014) improved by the high growth trait broodstock group. The experimental diet feeding results revealed that both growth trait and dietary fatty acid composition influenced the reproductive performance of GSB broodstock. In the experimental diet feeding phase, we observed high growth trait GSB males produced a higher number of sperm cells (p < 0.001) and also showed a higher sperm motility (p = 0.048) percentage. The viable egg and larval production per spawn per kg female were significantly improved by the broodstock selected for high growth trait and fed with fish oil-based diet. This present study results signifies that gilthead seabream broodstock selected on growth trait could have positive role in improvement of sperm and egg quality to produce viable progeny.
