Abstract. Spatial variability in fruit losses in relation to fruit yield, plant height, and ground slope can help to automate the wild blueberry harvester to improve picking performance. Currently, harvester operators adjust harvester’s head height, ground speed, and revolutions per minute (rpm) manually. This is not only laborious but also stressful for operators, as they encounter spatial variability during harvesting. The goal of this work was to identify the automation potential of the harvester to improve harvestable yield and reduce operator’s stress, keeping in view the spatial variability. Two fields were selected and test plots were constructed to examine the performance of the harvester in five zones of plant height, fruit yield, and ground slope. Fruit yield plant height and ground slope were recorded from each plot manually to examine their impact on total fruit loss. Fruit losses were significantly influenced by the spatial variations. Fruit losses increased with an increase in fruit yield and ground slope during mechanical harvesting. The picking performance of the blueberry harvester was significantly lower in short and very tall plants within selected fields. The dependence of fruit losses on fruit yield, plant height, and ground slope emphasize the need for real-time adjustments in machine operating parameters to improve berry recovery. Based on the results, it is concluded that there is a significant advantage of harvester’s automation to increase profit margins for growers with no additional cost. <p>Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Januari sampai dengan Desember 2001 di Desa Caringinnunggal, Kecamatan Waluran, Kabupaten Sukabumi, yang bcrada pada kelinggian 250 m di atas permukaan laut, tipe iklim B2 (Oldeman) dan jenis tanahnya Podsolik Merah Kuning. Rancangan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah rancangan acak kelompok dengan empat ulangan. Perlakuan model polatanam kelapa yang diuji sebagai berikut (1) kelapa + sengon 140 pohon/ha ♦ kacang tanah, (2) kelapa + sengon 280 pohon/ha + kacang tanah, (3) kelapa + sengon 420 pohon/ha ♦ kacang tanah, (4) kelapa + sengon 560 pohon/ha + kacang tanah, (5) kelapa + sengon 700 pohon/ha + kacang tanah dan (6) kelapa monokultur. 'Tujuan dai penelitian ini untuk mcngciahui pertumbuhan dan produksi dari beberapa model polatanam kelapa dengan tanaman sela kacang tanah dan sengon. Pengamatan dilakukan terhadap parameter agronomi meliputi data petumbuhan kacang tanah, sengon dan kelapa seta data produksi kacang tanah. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan menggunakan sidik ragam dan dilanjutkan dengan uji BNJ. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan produktivitas kacang tanah pada polatanam kelapa * sengon 700 pohon/ha + kacang tanah prospektif dengan hasil mencapai 2 183 kg/ha dengan tinggi tanaman 30.25 cm dan polong isi sebanyak 9.65 buah. Sedang untuk tanaman sengon tingginya telah mencapai 312.3 cm dengan diameter 10.57 cm. Adanya tanaman sela diantara kelapa tidak menurunkan pembentukan jumlah daun, jumlah bunga betina dan jumlah tandan tanaman kelapa.</p><p>Kata kunci: Cocos nucifera, Paraserianthes falcataria, Arachis hipogea, polatanam</p><p> </p><p><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></p><p><strong>Growth and producion of peanut and albizia between coconut palms in Sukabumi, West Java</strong></p><p>The study was conducted from January to December 2001 at Caringinnunggal, Sukabumi 250 m above sea level with type of climate Bj according to Oldeman and soil type Red Yellow Podsolic. The expeiment was designed as a randomized block in 4 replicates. The cropping system models consisted of : (1) Coconut + albizia 140 trees/ha ♦ peanut (2) Coconut + albizia 280 trees/ha ♦ peanut. (3) Coconut + albizia 420 trees/ha + peanut, (4) Coconut + albizia 560 trees/ha + peanut, (5) Coconut + albizia 700 trees/ha + peanut and (6) Coconut as a control The purpose of this experiment was to know the growth and productivity of several fanning systems with intercrops in between coconut. The results of the research showed that the peanut production in the cropping system of coconut + albizia 700 trees/ha + peanut reached 2 183 kg/ha, peanut plant height 30.25 cm, mature pods 9.65/plant. While Ihe height of albizia plant reached 3)2.3 cm, stem diameter 10.57 cm. The intercrops planted in between the coconut palms did not reduce the number of leaves, the number of female flowers, and (he number of bunches.</p><p>Key words : Cocos nucifera, Paraserianthes falcataria. This paper integrated a laser triangulation probe with a two-dimensional image measurement system to measure the height of an object using the auto-focusing method. In the laser triangulation probe, the laser diode was used as the light source and one-dimensional position sensitive detector was adopted to receive the position of the laser spots to detect the height. The laser triangulation probe was used for small height measurement and the auto-focusing method was used for large height measurement. Two standard gauges with thicknesses of 8mm and 8.5mm were used to verify our proposed method. With height difference of 500μm, the experiment results showed the measuring error was within ±3μm and standard deviation was about 0.1μm.

Background: Mixed cropping of forage grasses and legumes can potentially improve the performance of herbivores. However, the feasibility of grasses mixed-cropped with legumes should be examined at different plant densities. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the growth characters and forage chemical composition in dwarf napiergrass (Pennisetum purpureum cv. Mott) with Indigofera (Indigofera zollingeriana) grown using alley cropping. Methods: Three densities of dwarf napiergrass with Indigofera, i.e., high density (2 and 1 plants m-2, respectively); medium density (1.33 and 1 plants m-2, respectively); and low density (1 and 1 plants m-2, respectively) were applied under rainfed conditions in Makassar. Results: Plant density significantly affected growth characteristics, such as plant height and tiller density in dwarf napiergrass (p<0.05), and non-significantly affected plant height and branch density (p>0.05) in Indigofera. Plant density did not affect the yielding ability at the first defoliation and annual total of yields (p>0.05), except at the second defoliation when the dry matter production of dwarf napiergrass peaked in the low plant density treatment (p<0.05). In terms of chemical composition, plant density significantly affected fiber concentrations of acid detergent fiber and neutral detergent fiber, which were lowest at low plant densities (p<0.05). The acid detergent lignin and cellulose concentrations tended to be lower at low plant densities, but the differences were not significant (p>0.05). Conclusion: We consider that alley cropping systems for dwarf napiergrass and Indigofera are suitable if low plant densities are employed in the region.

This reserach aims was to determine the effect of planting systems on the growth and yield of Pandan Putri  plants in several planting systems in Mundak Jaya Subdistrict, Indramayu Regency. The experiment used a randomized block design with four treatments, each treatment was six replication. The results showed that the treatment of legowo 2: 1 cropping system gave the highest effect for plant height per clump, number of tillers per clump, number of panicles per clump and dry milled grain yield per hectare and legowo 2: 1 cropping system gave the highest yield of dry unhulled rice, which is 5.19 tons / ha and was significantly different from other treatments
