The purpose of this research was to find out whether or not it is significantly effective to teach reading comprehension by using Predict, Locate, Add Note strategy to the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 2 Lubuklinggau in the academic year of 2016/2017. The researcher used pre experimental method with one group pre-test and post-test design. The population was all the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Lubuklinggau which consisted of 440 students. The sample was taken through cluster random sampling. The sample was 40 students. The data was collected through test consisted of 20 items of multiple choices. The data were analyzed through four techniques: 1) students’ individual score, 2) minimum mastery criteria, 3) normality, and 4) matched t-test calculation. The result of this research: (1) the mean students’ score in the pre-test was 62.3, (2) The mean score of post-test was 77.3, and (3) the result of Matched t-test was 10.86, which was higher than 1.684 value of the t-table of 39 (40-1) with 95% significant level for one tailed-test. Therefore, null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It means that it was significantly effective to teach reading comprehension by using Predict, Locate, Add Note Strategy to the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Lubuklinggau in academic year of 2016/2017.

Abstract. The aims of this study was to find out whether or not of teaching of narrative text through SQ3R Strategy has improve students reading comprehension of X MIPA 1 class of SMA Negeri 4 Sidrap, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. This study used a pre-experimental method that consists pre-test and post-test. The total population is 90 students by taking one class as a sample using the quota sampling technique, namely class X MIPA 1 as a sample. The results of this study indicate the mean score of students’ post-test (76.25) is greater than the pre-test (53.2). This shows a significant difference between students taught by using the SQ3R strategy in teaching reading comprehension of narrative texts. The results in pre-test and post-test that p-value was lower α (0,000 <0.05). This means that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. The concluded that teaching reading comprehension by implementation of SQ3R Strategy has influence to improve the students of X MIPA 1 class in SMA Negeri 4 Sidrap, South Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Reading is one of the basic English skills which should be mastered by the students. This study was intended to explore the use of SQ3R technique to improve students` reading comprehension and to find out the students` perception toward the use of SQ3R technique. The method in this study is mixed method with Quan-qual model. The quantitative method used quasi-experimental design with control and experimental group. The population in this research used purposive sampling technique with the number of sample are 24 students as respondent; 12 students in control group and 12 students in experimental group. This study was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Saluputti from the eighth grade students in academic year 2016/2017. The instrument that the writer used are reading test and questionnaire and the data were analyzed through SPSS 20. The research findings shows that the implementation of SQ3R technique could improve the students’ reading comprehension ability especially the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Saluputti and the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Saluputti have good perception towards the use of SQ3R technique. This research shows the improvement in students` reading comprehension, for that reason, it is recommended that the English teacher apply certain effective technique in teaching reading to enhance student`s comprehension.

The purpose of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of discovery method in teaching reading comprehension. The design of research used is a pre-experimental research, and the data were collected by using measurement technique with multiple-choice reading test as the tool of collecting data. The obtained data were analyzed by using t-test. The results of data analysis showed that discovery method has the effect on the students’ ability in reading comprehension. The mean score of the students’ pre-test was 58.2 whereas the mean score of post-test was 64.8. The effect size of the treatment was 0.98 which is categorized as moderate effect. Thus, the alternative hypothesis that the use of discovery method in teaching reading comprehension on narrative text is effective to the eighth-grade students of SMP Kartika Kubu Raya in academic year 2016/2017. Therefore, the researcher believes the teachers can use the discovery method in their teaching learning process, especially in reading comprehension on narrative text.

This study aimed at: a) finding out whether or not there is a significant difference in writing competence between the students who were taught by using genre based approach and those who were taught by using a conventional strategy; b) finding out whether or not there is an effect of the interaction between the implementation of genre based approach and learner autonomy on the students writing competence; 3) finding out whether or not there is a significant difference in writing competence between the students with high autonomy treated by using genre based approach and those treated by using a conventional strategy; 4) finding out whether or not there is a significant difference in writing competence between the students with how autonomy who were treated by using genre based approach and those treated by using a conventional strategy. The study employed a post test for control group and an experiment group with 2 x 2 factorial designs. The population of the study was 196 eighth grade students of SMP Harapan Nusantara in academic year 2015/2016 where 144 of them were selected as the sample of the study through cluster random sampling technique. The data were collected by means of attitude questionnaire and writing competence test and were analyzed by using Two-Way ANOVA and Tukey test. The result of this research showed that: a) there was significant difference in writing competence between the students who are taught by using genre based approach and those who are taught by using a conventional strategy, b) there was significant effect of the interaction between the implementation of genre based approach and learner autonomy on the students’ writing competence, c) there was significant difference in writing competence between the students with high autonomy treated by using genre based approach and those treated by using a conventional strategy and d) there was significant difference in writing competence between the students with low autonomy who are treated by using genre based approach and those treated by using a conventional strategy. The implication of this study reveals that a Genre-Based Approach is useful approach for supporting students’ development.

This present study was quasi experiment research. This study aimed to find out whether or not there is any the improvement of the students’ reading comprehension by using buzz group technique. The population of the study was all the eighth grade students of SMP SENTOSA BAKTI BATURAJA in Academic Year 2019/ 2020. The sample was taken by using cluster random sampling. The sample is divided by two experimental class and control group. The try-out was done at VIII. C with 22 respondents. The data was collected by using test. The reliability of the data was taken through Alpha Cronbach. The data were analyzed by using paired T-test of control class and paired t-test of experimental class and independent t-test too. The result showed that from the mean score was 71 improved to be 84, 6 and based on independent T-test the value of T obtained was 8,122 as significant level of 0.05 for 2 tailed testing and degree of freedom (df) was 48 the critical value of T table 3, 425. The value was higher than T table (8,122>3,425) and the value sig, (2 tailed)= 0.000 less than the value of significant level (0.05).  It mean that there was significant improvement the students who was taught by using buzz group technique and those who was not at SMP SENTOSA BAKTI Baturaja. It concluded that Buzz group technique was effective to promote students’ reading comprehension at the Eighth Grade students of SMP SENTOSA BAKTI BATURAJA.
