Objective: The study aims to evaluate the emotional, behavioural, and social effects of single or multiple anterior tooth loss. It also compares the effectiveness of the removable and fixed prosthesis to address the impact of anterior tooth loss. Material and Methods: The study was carried out on 70 subjects who presented to the Department of Prosthetic Dental Sciences. A questionnaire was distributed and the data were statistically analyzed using SPSS version 18.0 and values less than 0.05 % were considered statistically significant. Results: The participant’s difficulty to accept loss of their anterior tooth, embarrassment and confidence were changed significantly after wearing the prosthesis (P< 0.05). Moreover, fixed partial denture had more effect than removal partial denture. It was claimed by 62.9% of the participants that they were not prepared for the effect of tooth loss and 47.1% of them thought that a prior explanation from the dentist would have helped them overcome their fear of losing their teeth. Conclusion: The maximum impact of anterior tooth loss was felt on confidence followed by embarrassment. The participants felt more comfortable after wearing their prosthesis. Fixed partial denture had more effect than removable partial denture. Keywords Emotional; Behavioral; Social; Anterior tooth loss. Keywords Emotional; Behavioral; Social; Anterior tooth loss.

ABSTRACT It has been well documented that anterior ridge defects present in a patient are very difficult to treat properly. These defects have been treated with great amount of planning and complexities while using the conventional treatment approaches like removable or fixed prosthesis and options of implant. Though totally implant-supported restorations are very successful, dentists may resort to prescribe implant overdentures because of functional, anatomical economical or esthetic considerations. However, the loading conditions of the partially implant- supported overdenture may affect the long-term predictability of this type of restoration. The concept of the Andrew's bar system can be utilized. In some cases the Andrew's bar system is superior to the implant-supported fixed partial denture and other techniques for implant overdentures. The purpose of this article is to evaluate and describe the Andrew's bar system (a fixed removable partial denture), to treat a class III anterior ridge defect using natural teeth as abutments for its fixed component followed a removable component. The use of Andrew's bar system over implants offered the dentist another option in meeting patient's needs. A cross-sectional study was carried out to analyze tooth loss resulting from caries in relation to the number of times the extracted tooth had been restored, the type of caries diagnosed (primary or secondary), and socioeconomic indicators of patients from the city of Recife, Brazil. Ten public health centres and ten centres associated with health insurance companies were randomly selected. The size of the sample was calculated using a standard error of 2.5%. A confidence interval of 95% and a 50% prevalence of reasons for extractions were used for calculating the sample. The minimum size of the sample for meeting these requirements was 381 patients. Patients were randomly selected from the list of adults registered at each centre. A total of 410 patients were invited to take part in the study. The response rate was 100%, but 6 patients were excluded due to incompleteness of data in the questionnaire applied. An assessment was made to obtain the number of decayed, missing or filled teeth (DMFT index) and the reasons for extraction. The results showed a highly significant (p < 0.001) relationship between the number of times the tooth indicated for extraction had been restored and the reason for extraction being caries. Furthermore, the majority of teeth extracted due to caries had been restored two or more times. A highly statistically significant association was also observed between one indicator of use of dental services (F/DMFT) and extraction due to caries (p < 0.001). The findings questioned the belief that tooth loss can be prevented in the general population by merely providing restorative treatment.

Background: Determining occlusal plane is challenging and difficult aspect during complete removable partial denture prosthesis rehabilitation. Numerous soft tissue landmarks like commissures of the mouth by Gillis in 1933, parotid papilla by P. F. Foley and G. H. Latta in 1985, height of the retromolar pad, the lateral borders of the tongue etc. had been proposed to assist clinician for determining the occlusal plane. No universally accepted reliable anatomical measurement has been proposed to assist in determining of occlusion plane for different ethnic groups in context to Nepal. Material & Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the 60 dentate subjects visiting Nobel Medical College, Nepal, from February 2019 to July 2019. A customized occlusal plane relator was used to evaluate relative parallelism between occlusal plane and alatragal line with respect to different borders of tragus. All the data were collected and statistically analyzed. Results: Maxillary occlusal plane was found to be parallel with the line drawn from ala of the nose to the middle of tragus in 66.66%, followed by inferior border of tragus in 18.33% with the least parallelism in superior border of tragus 15%. Relationship of maxillary occlusal plane with alatragal line was not statistically significant among Aryans and Mongolian ethnicity Conclusion: This study showed line joining ala of the nose and middle border of tragus is parallel to maxillary occlusal plane. And no difference was found for Aryan & Mongolian ethnicity in relation to alatragal line and maxillary occlusal plane.

Objectives. To investigate the prevalence of tooth loss and different prosthetic rehabilitations among Iranian adults, as well as the potential determinants of tooth loss.Methods. In a cross-sectional community-based study conducted among 8094 Iranian adults living in Isfahan province, a self-administered questionnaire was used to assess epidemiologic features of tooth loss.Results. Thirty-two percent of subjects had all their teeth, 58.6% had lost less than 6, and 7.2% of participants had lost more than 6 teeth. One hundred and sixty-nine individuals (2.2%) were edentulous. Among participants, 2.3% had single jaw removable partial denture, 3.6% had complete removable denture in both jaws, and 4.6% had fixed prosthesis. Others reported no prosthetic rehabilitation (89.5%). In the age subgroup analysis (≤35 and >35 years old) tooth loss was more prevalent among men than women (OR=2.8and 1.9, resp.,P<0.01). Also, in both age groups, current and former smokers had higher levels of tooth loss than nonsmokers (P<0.001andP<0.05, resp.). In addition, tooth loss was positively related to metabolic abnormality for age group >35 years (adjustedOR=1.29,P<0.01).Conclusions. Tooth loss is highly prevalent in Iranian adult population. Community programs promoting oral health for prevention of tooth loss should be considered taking into account its major determinants including lower educational level, male gender, smoking, and metabolic abnormality.
