From the organization of the first societies of hunter-gatherers to the development of sedentary life, the human being has transforming the landscapes of the natural environments of Pour planet. Nowadays, there is a planetary crisis resulting from the means of production and consumption, in an urban way of life based on technology. At the same time, there is an international movement for Environmental Education, aimed at combating the crisis. The present work proposes to reflect on the potential of Environmental Education in a critical and creative perspective, starting from a Freirean approach. Since the solution mechanisms are based on the same principles that generated the crisis, it is necessary that Environmental Education be constituted from its transformative potential, instead of serving the Sustainable Development. Environmental education is one of the main tools for solving the problems of environmental management and environmental protection. In all highly developed countries, there is a tendency to develop technologies that contribute to reducing the harmful effects of human activities on the environment. The sustainable development of society and the economy in the face of growing demands for natural resources involves the careful treatment and transmission to future generations of clean air, genetic biodiversity and soil fertility. This can be achieved through the development of high-tech technologies based on environmental principles ,which largely depends on the quality of environmental education not only for specialists in the field of environmental management, but also for all people. We hold the view that environmental education has a great impact on the ability and skills of people to make decisions in accordance with environmental norms and standards. In order for environmental education to become an effective part of universal education, it is necessary first of all that every teacher has a competence in the field of ecology.

Because natural limits and economic growth are being exceeded today, the world cares for the environment. The current economic rationale focuses on maximizing production and seeking the accumulation of wealth, which has devastating consequences for society and the natural environment. Therefore, it is very important to know the current state of the environment, the regulations for production and consumption, and the management of urban and rural waste. Education is the ideal way to address the various environmental and social problems that modern society experiences. Different strategies and actions in education can be carried out so that children, youth and adults act towards the environment with responsibility and awareness. In fact, various governments have already implemented public programs on environmental education in communities and schools. For this reason, this article aims to present information and reflections about the problem and excessive generation of solid waste, the role that education and environmental culture play in its management, and how it can be used to try to alleviate this problematic. This was achieved using a documentary and literature analysis. This analysis shows the need to reinforce learning oriented to the development of skills and perceptions in the face of real-world environmental problems, applying a multidisciplinary approach and trusting on the participation of rural communities.

The result of this work was the identification and designation of several cornerstones in the deep thousand-years history of the aboriginal society of South Florida - the Calusa Indians, who led this people to the leader position in the region. The results of the study combined and used numerous of old written sources that mention various points of contact between Spaniards and disappeared civilizations, as well as new documents - books and dissertations, thesis of leading professors of Florida and the United States, dedicated to the extinct peoples of the Florida region. In addition, artefacts and reconstructions of local life in South Florida were investigated, studying them during numerous visits to Florida museums by the author. It has been hypothesized that there is an important link between the creation of large dwellings among the Calusa people and their way of life as a fishing-hunting-gathering society with the mobile organization of the armed forces and the mobility of the entire community in the face of annual Florida natural disasters. The result of the work was also an elimination of the white spot in the Soviet and Russian scientific literature about a fairly ancient and atypical settled people of fishermen-hunter-gatherers when covering the events of the era of great discoveries and the collision of two worlds during the Spanish conquest.

Abstract The enrichment of the society and the consumptive lifestyle caused that customers buy more and more, having different, often very high requirements as to the purchased products and services. They often do not realize that production of such products requires more and more materials, energy and other means of production. All this leads to high exploitation of the environment. Even if the resources of the natural environment are not exhaustible, they do not keep up with their rebuilding at this pace of exploitation. That is why social awareness and responsibility both of producers and customers play such an important role. They are one of the instruments needed to operate in accordance with the concept of sustainable development. The aim of the research was to examine social awareness and responsibility among customers of service enterprises. The research was conducted with the use of an online survey, which allowed to show whether the customers of such enterprises are interested in the concept of the sustainable development, if they take it into account when using various services. The need for environmental education was indicated, which could strengthen the social awareness and responsibility among Polish customers.

This chapter discusses how consumer culture affects the depiction and meaning of the natural world in the work of American realist writers. These writers illuminate the relationship between natural environments and the social expectations of consumer culture and reveal how such expectations transform natural space into what Henri Lefebvre terms “social space” implicated in the processes and power dynamics of production and consumption. The representation of nature as social space in realist works demonstrates the range of consequences such space holds for characters. Such space can both empower and oppress individuals, and rejecting or embracing it can deepen moral resolve, prompt a crisis of self, or result in one’s death. Characters’ attempts to escape social space and consumer culture also provide readers with new strategies for coping with their effects.

Sustainable meal choices in the out-of-home catering market are essential to attaining the Sustainable Development Goals. This study investigated consumers’ acceptance of different features that help service providers to work more sustainably. For this purpose, data of a choice experiment and a supporting online questionnaire were analyzed using latent class analysis (LCA) and the data of n = 373 employees. Examined attributes in the choice experiment were menu variety, menu type, ordering system, ingredients and price. LCA led to four consumer segments: variety seekers (27.6%), spontaneous decisionmakers—vegetarian (25.7%), spontaneous decisionmakers—meat (24.1%) and vegetarians/vegans (22.6%). Results showed that consumers in all four segments expected to have the choice between different menus in company canteens. Moreover, they preferred spontaneous choice to preordering. Both preferences hamper sustainable production and consumption in the catering sector.

Few teacher educators would dispute that preservice teachers benefit from active participation in planning, implementing, and evaluating experiential learning activities in natural environments. Such experiences help them to understand how environmental education can be successfully woven into a teaching program rather than just an added “frill” presented in isolation. However, it is difficult to find efficient ways of organising these experiences in tertiary institutions. This paper discusses a partnership formed among teacher educators, schools, and field study centers in New South Wales, Australia. It was devised to enhance the experiences in environmental education for all participants, and at the same time make efficient use of human resources.

Bruce Pavitt’s music fanzine Sub Pop, the first issue of which appeared in 1980, is often presented as a simple case of independent culture versus the reviled mainstream, with little reference to the actual written and graphic content of its pages. This article challenges and complicates that view with an account of Pavitt’s usage of language and specific genre terms – in particular, his tendency to rebrand punk as (indie) ‘pop’. This he reinforces with all manner of written and visual references to 1950s pre-corporate means of production and consumption. In so doing, I argue, he projects what numerous theorists have defined as a ‘genre culture’ based around pop. Pavitt also tries, however, to absorb the immediate indie legacy of hardcore within his genre culture. As the second part of the article demonstrates, this generates stark tensions within his fanzine reviews and other copy – not least when his opening Sub Pop manifesto rejects the toxic masculinity of corporate rock but simultaneously celebrates hardcore’s own carefully policed American, anti-British, anti-theatrical masculinity. Such tensions, I suggest in closing, found their way into Pavitt’s most famous creation, where they were partly, if still messily, resolved: this was the Seattle indie record label, also called Sub Pop, and its signal genre of grunge.
