The contribution provides information about the development of a system for visualization of NPP severe accident progress. This visualization is under development in cooperation of UJV Rez, a.s. and Czech Technical University in Prague. The project is supported by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic and is planned to be solved from 2015 to 2017. The visualization uses results of an analytical code MELCOR for evaluation of the NPP severe accident progress. The visualization firstly reads MELCOR results, transforms them to a suitable format for quick processing and provides graphical screens with reactor components that could demonstrate the progress of the evaluated severe accident. The visualization can even provide parallel presentation of more different scenarios of the severe accident. The system is planned to be used for training of NPP staff to handle severe accidents. In the first year of the project solution (2015), the software for MELCOR data transformation, next for providing information about transformed data were developed. In the following year (2016), software for creation of graphical screens with reactor components and software for severe accident progress presentation is creating. In the final year of the project (2017), thorough testing is going to be carried out, and the applicability of the visualization for a practical use during a NPP staff training is going to be verified.

This paper is a collection of selected contributions of the 1st International Workshop on Mechanochemistry of Metal Hydrides that was held in Oslo in May 2018. In this paper, the recent developments in the use of mechanochemistry to synthesize and modify metal hydrides are reviewed. A special emphasis is made on new techniques beside the traditional way of ball milling. High energy milling, ball milling under hydrogen reactive gas, cryomilling and severe plastic deformation techniques such as High-Pressure Torsion (HPT), Surface Mechanical Attrition Treatment (SMAT) and cold rolling are discussed. The new characterization method of in-situ X-ray diffraction during milling is described.

An approach of ensuring the quality of piping of NPP’s on the Czech Republic is described, with focus on high energy piping systems. Basic principles of this approach are described that are aimed to ensure the safety goals while maintaining the effectiveness of NPP operation during its long-term life. This approach ensures defense in depth of the piping. Its application on the high energy piping on +28.8 m level of WWER 1000 type NPP is demonstrated.

This note emphasizes the importance of very bright fireballs as a powerful source of meteoritic dust in the upper atmosphere and on the Earth’s surface. Recently we obtained a direct observational evidence when we photographed the Šumava Fireball, an object of −22 absolute stellar magnitude, on Dec. 4, 1974 at 17h57.5m UT. This is the brightest object on the European Network photographic records during almost 12 years of systematic fireball observations. We obtained 4. all-sky-camera records of the Šumava Fireball from two Czech and one German station of the Network. The most important combination for the trajectory computations proved to be station No. 5 at Ondrejov (Astronomical Institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences) and station No. 65 at Bernau (Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik, Heidelberg). The results are given in Table 1. At Ondřejov we also obtained 4 spectral records of the Šumava Fireball; the most detailed record has a dispersion of 5 Å/mm.
