Semansitcs is the study of meaning communicated through language. In the past time semantics was the study of meaning of words and sentences. Aboves sentence level which is known as text was never considered as linguistic semantics’ objek of study. Semantics which is a branch of structural linguistics only focused it’s attention on phones, morphemes, words, clauses, and sentences: substansive matters of language. Texts belong to speech or language system in use. The study of meaning in this area is called pragmatics or discourse analysis.Up to this time linguistics or semantics has been used as an instrument in interpreting the Holy Texts of many religions. In that period the Holy Texts interpretation activity was limited only on lexical and grammatical meaning. Today people are aware, that based on the theory of discourse analysis, texts should be considered as parts of discourse. To get the meaning of the texts significantly people must find the context, but this is the problems, that reconstructing the context of the text in its’origin is a never ending works. Since Holy Text interpretation is a kind of activity closed to mission of imposible, this should teaches us to be low hearted and tolerant to others

For the past twenty to thirty years, a good part of the domain of linguistics has been occupied by what has been called discourse analysis. Whereas syntax and semantics are concerned by the sentence and the units from which the sentence is built, discourse analysis claims that interpretation cannot accounted for at the level of the sentence and that a bigger unit, such as discourse should be used to account for language interpretation. We want to show here that discourse is not, in any sense, a well defined object and that, though it is certainly necessary to analyze how a given sequence of sentences is processed and understood, the notion of discourse,  A and related notions such as coherence does not have much to say about it. We rely on epistemological considerations about the necessity of a moderate reductionism and sketch on account of linguistic interpretation which accounts for contextual factors in linguistic interpretation through the notion of utterance (vs. sentence) and a development of Sperber & Wilsons Relevance Theory.

Abstrak: Artikel ini bertujuan menganalisis secara kritis visi dan misi 10 perguruan tinggi terbaik di Indonesia versi 4 International Colleges & Universities. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini merupakan analisis wacana kritis yang mengacu pada teori Michel Foucault. Teori analisis wacana Foucault mengacu pada wacana sebagai alat bagi kepentingan kekuasaan, hegemoni, dominasi budaya, dan ilmu pengetahuan. Berdasarkan hasil analisis ditemukan bahwa visi dan misi 10 perguruan tinggi tersebut mengandung unsur-unsur yang sejalan dengan fungsi wacana menurut Foucault. Hal tersebut didasari pada visi dan misi setiap perguruan tinggi yang memiliki tujuan mengembangkan institusi berkelas internasional, namun tetap dengan berdasar pada pengembangan ilmu pengetahuan yang berakar pada budaya lokal. Kata kunci: wacana, visi, misi, perguruan tinggi Abstract: This article aims to critically analyze the vision and mission of the 10 best universities in Indonesia version of 4 International Colleges & Universities. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. This research is a critical discourse analysis that refers to Michel Foucault's theory. Foucault's theory of discourse analysis refers to discourse as a tool for the interests of power, hegemony, cultural domination, and science. Based on the results of the analysis it was found that the vision and mission of the 10 universities contained elements that were in line with the discourse function according to Foucault. This is based on the vision and mission of each college that has the aim of developing international-class institutions, but still based on the development of science rooted in local culture. Keywords: discourse, vision, mission, college

AbstractIn his works from the past decade, Menachem Fisch offered an analysis of a crucial distinction between two modes of rationalized transformation: an intra-framework transformation and an inter-framework one, the latter entailing a revolutionary shift of the framework itself. In this article, I analyze the attempt to produce such a framework transition in the tradition of Jewish Halakha (i.e., Jewish Law) by one of the key figures in its history, Moses Maimonides (1135–1204), and to explore how this transition was rationalized and promoted by the utilization of crisis discourse. Using discourse analysis, I analyze the introduction to Maimonides’ great legal code, Mishneh Torah, and explore the modes by which he sought to establish, install and stabilize a homogenous and centralistic legal order at the center of which will lie one – that is, his own – Halakhic book.

This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of news discourse analysis using CiteSpace to sketch its scientific landscape based on journal articles in English in the Scopus database from 1988 through 2020. The statistical analysis provides evidence for the interdisciplinarity of this area, and shows an upward trend in general over these years as well as an accelerating growth rate in the past decade. Findings also indicate that the problem-oriented CDA has gained the most popularity in this area since its emergence, and the appraisal framework, multimodality analysis, and discursive news values have become three hotspots of news discourse analysis. In addition, the authors in the West have contributed most in this area, but those from Chinese Mainland, Malaysia, South Africa, and Indonesia have gradually been an emerging powerhouse, which has added diversity in topics and will enhance equality and promote dialogue between different communities, ethnics, and races across the globe.

Expectations for fathers have changed over the past few decades—research has shown that many men express more egalitarian views toward fatherhood and being more involved in parenting, particularly in the caretaking and emotional aspects of parenting. However, despite intentions expressed before parenthood, parenting will often play out along more traditional, gendered lines. In this research, we demonstrate how discourses used by fathers might work to maintain gendered divisions in relation to parenting and work. Data were collected through semistructured interviews that covered men’s experiences of work and parenting. Discourse analysis was employed to analyze the data. We identified that while participants expressed a desire to be involved fathers, often this did not transpire. Participants’ inability to, or decisions not to be, actively involved was accounted for in various ways, and suggested a tension between what fathers recognize they should be doing, and what they are doing, as parents.

Slovene resources confirm that verbal aspect and aspectualness depend on the morphological, lexical, syntactic, and other characteristics of a particular language. Since verbal aspect is directly connected to the meaning of a particular verb, as well as its structural and semantic-syntactic abilities, it is considered to be an essential characteristic in terms of the language system of every language. The specific features of aspectualness, especially if we take into account its connectedness to a given language system, are confirmed by various contrastive studies, which also place considerable emphasis on a number of general aspectual characteristics that can be applied to all languages. Within every language system, for example, the grammatical (morphological), lexical, and syntactic aspectualness are distinguished from one another, whereas in the case of a particular text, the relationship between aspect, time, and mood cannot be overlooked. What remains central in both current and future discussions is establishing the relationship between aspectualness and temporality within a particular language or languages. Cases of ?aspectual competitiveness?, related to the temporal structure of a given sentence, have been noted in Slovene as well, especially in examples like Sem ze vecerjal - Sem ze povecerjal (?I already had dinner - I already finished my dinner?), Vedno smo k obstojecemu doprinesli tudi nekaj novega - Vedno smo k obstojecemu doprinasali tudi nekaj novega (?We always contributed something new to the existing condition - We always used to contribute something new to the existing condition?), etc. That the behavior of the imperfect may vary in the past and future is shown by examples like Temperatura se je dvigovala ?visala, padala in spet visala? (The temperature kept rising ?rising, falling, and rising again?), Temperatura se bo dvigovala ?vedno samo navzgor, brez nihanja? (The temperature will keep on rising ?it will rise without falling?). It is also important how a particular dictionary presents verbal valency as a developmental category. The most common is the change from monovalent verbs to bivalent or governed verbs. When considering the valency of non-deverbal nouns and adjectives, it must be noted that especially in the case of nondeverbal adjectives, valency is the consequence of the dynamic meaning of semantically similar verbs, which can replace non-deverbal adjectives in a particular sentence.

Objective: To build an account of how bereaved Tamil refugee and asylum seeker children, resettled in Australia, had processed the loss of their dead or missing fathers. Method: Phenomenological and discourse analysis was applied to attachment narratives of nine children (aged 11–17 years) and their surviving mothers in families that lost fathers in war-related circumstances. The narratives were analysed through the lens of Crittenden’s Dynamic-Maturational Model of Attachment and Adaptation (DMM) and Klass’ cross-cultural model of grief. Results: Two divergent pathways — ‘burying the past’ and ‘reifying the past’ — emerged, encompassing the children’s contrasting patterns of information processing regarding loss and trauma (dismissing or preoccupying) and representation of the past (distant-buried or rich-reconstructed). Each pathway reflected a strategic compromise between the constraints and resources presented to the child by the circumstances of the loss (ambiguous or confirmed), the response of their surviving parent (stricken or stoic) and the collective narrative surrounding the loss (silenced or valorised). Conclusion: The DMM’s conceptualisation of attachment as self-protective strategies for navigating danger was helpful in explaining the contrasting adaptations of refugee children to loss and trauma. However, to understand the multivalent meanings of these adaptations, there was a need to situate child–parent attachment relationships within the wider sociocultural reconfigurations arising from contexts of political violence.

Abstract This paper analyzes a contemporary Taiwanese artist Stanley Fung’s portrait photography and his contextual biblical interpretation of time and memory: the experience of the coming of the kingdom can be lingered on in an artist’s imagination. As a biblical interpreter, Fung’s visual exegesis asks the viewer to reconsider how the historical consciousness of self and community together impact one’s sense of time. Fung uses clothing and plants to invoke the viewer’s longing for a new, local culture where the gospel can be dressed, and a new soil where it can be planted. Photography as a legitimate extension of the sacred text engages the viewer’s biblical imagination and demands a response. Eternal beings and Christian anthropology, as manifested in Fung’s work serve to remind us of the distinction between memory and the sacred, life and destruction, creation and redemption.
