Abstract The aim of this study was to describe the variations in power performance of elite Paralympic judo athletes across three consecutive training cycles of preparation for the ParaPan American Games, the World Championship and the Paralympic Games. Eleven Paralympic judokas from the Brazilian National team participated in this study. They were repeatedly assessed using squat and countermovement jumps, mean propulsive power (MPP) in the jump-squat (JS), the bench press and prone bench pull at several moments of the preparation. Training supervision based on the optimum power zone (range of loads where power production is maximized) was provided in the final cycle, prior to the Paralympic Games. Magnitude-based inference was used to compare the repeated measurements of power performance. Lower and upper limb muscle power gradually increased throughout the cycles; however, the best results in all exercises were observed prior to the Paralympic Games, during which the team won four silver medals. As an illustration, prior to participation in the Paralympic Games the MPP in the JS was likely to very likely higher than prior to the World Championship (effect size [ES] = 0.77) and ParaPan American Games (ES = 0.53), and in January and March 2016 (ES = 0.98 and 0.92, respectively; months preceding the Paralympic Games). Power performance assessments can provide information about the evolution of Paralympic judokas, and training at the optimum power zone seems to constitute an effective method to improve lower and upper limb power in these athletes.

Purpose: to analyze the indicators of the competitive activity of judokas in light weight categories during the World Championship among adults in 2021. Material and methods. During the work, the following research methods were used: analysis and generalization of scientific and methodological literature; timing; analysis of protocols and video recordings of fights of highly qualified judokas in weight categories up to 60 and 66 kg, methods of mathematical statistics. 49 fights of judoists in the weight category up to 60 kg and 61 fights in the weight category up to 66 kg during the World Judo Championship among adults 2021 (Hungary, Budapest) were analyzed. Results: the analysis of the received comments of highly qualified judokas of light weight categories shows that most of the comments were received by the athletes for not wrestling (up to 60 kg – 35 %; up to 66 kg – 36 %), for avoiding capture (up to 60 kg – 21 %, up to 66 kg – 27 %), the use of false attacks (up to 60 kg – 16 %, up to 66 kg – 13 %) and for fighting in a defensive position (up to 60 kg – 4 %, up to 66 kg – 6 %). The analysis of technical actions of highly qualified judokas of light weight categories made it possible to reveal the total number of effective actions. So, in the weight category up to 60 kg, athletes performed 59 effective technical actions, including 48 (81 %) in a standing position and 11 (19 %) in a parterre and lying position. Moreover, in the stand, 36 (75 %) actions were assessed by the judges for «Vasari», and 12 (25 %) for «Ippon». In the parterre and lying position - 3 (27 %) for «Vasari», 8 (73 %) for «Ippon». In the weight category up to 66 kg, athletes performed 57 effective technical actions, including 50 (87 %) in a standing position and 7 (13%) in a parterre and lying position. 38 (76 %) actions in a standing position were assessed by the judges for «Vasari», 12 (24 %) for «Ippon». In the parterre and lying position - 1 (14 %) for «Vasari», 6 (86 %) for «Ippon». Also, the main effective technical actions were identified, which are most often used by athletes in a standing position, a parterre position and lying down. So, for athletes in the weight category up to 60 kg, these are: throw over the back from their knees (19 %), grab (11 %), grab from the inside (11 %), unbalance by pushing back (11 %), elbow lever (46 %), hold on top (36 %), hold across (18 %). In the weight category up to 66 kg, the most often performed such effective technical actions were pick-up from the inside (14 %), unbalance with a push back (12 %), throw over the back from the knees, through the chest with a deflection (8 %), hold across, hold from the side heads (29 %). Conclusions. It has been established that athletes of light weight categories in most cases conduct reconnaissance battles, use defensive positions, false attacks in order to catch an opponent on a mistake. When conducting fights in this manner, they most often receive comments on not fighting, avoiding capture, using false attacks and for fighting in a defensive position. It was revealed that the struggle of athletes of light weight categories mainly takes place in the standing position. Technical actions in the parterre position and lying are more effective. Sportsmen of two weight categories used the following technical actions in a standing position more: throws over the back (from the knees, grabbing an arm on the shoulder), grabs, holds, unbalance by pushing back. In the parterre position and lying position, athletes of two weight categories used different types of holdings and the elbow lever more. The research was conducted in order to determine the differences in situational-motor abilities in the defense of men's junior national teams at the 2013 World Handball Championship. Situational - motor abilities in the defense of the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina in relation to the national teams of Croatia, France, Sweden and Spain were analyzed. The following variables were used to determine differences in defense: SKODEKUK / PR - total - average number of jumps in defense of the whole team, SKODUK / PR1 - total - average number of jumps in defense first player of defense, SKODUK / PR2 - total - average number of jumps in defense second defensive player, SKODUK / PR3 - total - average number of defensive jumps third defensive player, SKODUK / PR4 - total - average number of defensive jumps fourth defensive player, SKODUK / PR5 - total - average number of defensive jumps fifth defensive player and SKODUK / PR6 - total - average number of jumps in the sixth defense player. To determine the partial quantitative differences of variables, which measure the total and average number of attempts to perform an element in the area of situational - motor abilities in defense, we used the mean difference of mean (hereinafter MD), which calculated the average values of selected variables. The average values of variables for the assessment of situational - motor abilities in defense were also calculated. The variable SKODUK / PR4 - total - average number of jumps in the defense of the fourth player shows a statistically significant negative difference in the jumps in the defense of the fourth player between the fourth player in the defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the fourth player in the defense of Croatia and Sweden. In the variable SKODUK / PR6 - total - average number of jumps in the defense of the sixth defense player, a statistically significant negative difference can be seen between the sixth player in the defense of the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the sixth player in the defense of Sweden. Abstract Objectives Objectives were to examine subjective sleep quality and daytime sleepiness of the German ice hockey junior national team prior to the world championship to identify athletes of concern and areas of optimization with the intention of equally preventing injury and enhancing performance. Methods Twenty-one athletes (Mage = 18.5 ± 0.6 years, Mheight = 181.7 ± 4.3 cm, Mweight = 81.4 ± 7.1 kg), playing for national (n = 13) and international (n = 8) home clubs, answered the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) before training camp (T1, day 1) and prior to tournament (T2, day 11). Results Overall, 9 players at T1 and 7 at T2 were identified as bad sleepers (PSQI > 5), while high sleepiness (ESS > 10) was found for 6 athletes at each measurement time. Group means and standard deviations reduced descriptively for PSQI (T1 = 5.38 ± 2.31, T2 = 4.57 ± 2.36) and ESS (T1 = 9.24 ± 3.74, T2 = 8.48 ± 3.28). Tendential differences were visible for PSQI in international-based players (Z = −1.7, p = 0.09) and ESS in first-national-league players (Z = −1.73, p = 0.08) over time. Higher PSQI values for international-based players (6.25 ± 2.6) were found compared to first-national-league (5.83 ± 1.60) and lower-league players (4.00 ± 2.08), with large effect sizes for lower-league compared to international (d = 0.95) and national players (d = 0.98) at T1 and small effect sizes compared to first-league players (d = 0.24) at T2. Conclusion Findings emphasize great vulnerability and individuality and underline the importance of intraindividual sleep monitoring to meet the requirements needed to equally obtain health and enhance overall performance.

Introduction: Football 5-a-side is a sport played by blind athletes that takes part in the Paralympic Games since 2004. The Brazilian national team is currently considered the best team in the world in this sport. Objective: To analyze the variations of intensity of effort (average per position and group average) made by blind athletes of the Brazilian football 5-a-side national team during six matches simulations. Methods: The sample on this research is the intentional type, made with eight blind male players,  ages ranging from 21 to 30 years old (23.8 ± 3.3), all of them part of the Brazilian Football 5-a-side National team, which played in the 2012 Paralympics Games in England. In was evaluated the VO2máx and the heart rate during six simulations of official matches. Results: The intensity of effort of the blind athletes of the Brazilian Football 5-a-side National Team is intermittent and remains 52.5 % of the total time of a match (50 minutes) with an intensity of effort between the zone 2 (between threshold ventilation and respiratory compensation point) and the zone 3 (above the respiratory compensation point) averaging 89.8 % of the HR max. Conclusion: The intensity of effort is greater than the Football of 11 and, that in the Futsal players.

International potential and consequent greater competition in belt wrestling increase the significance of assessing quantitative and qualitative indicators of competitive activity of the strongest wrestlers in the world. It is important to identify the sport development trends and to search for effective ways and tools for achievement of the sport excellence. Purpose: to reveal the features of efficient competitive activities of the world leading wrestlers on the basis of analysis of group differences in technical and tactical excellence indicators. Materials and methods of research. We analyzed videos of 285 events with participation of 197 wrestlers competing at the Belt Wrestling World Championship 2019 in Kazan. We registered the following indicators of competitive activity: the total and average number of fighting techniques, including techniques executed to the right and to the left side within 4 minutes of combat; number and types of technical actions of competition winners among men and women. Research results and discussion. The paper focuses on the comparative analysis of technical and tactical skills of men and women, the winners of the Belt Wrestling World Championship. The research revealed distinguishing features of the winner’s technical toolkit including the diversity of technical and tactical actions, a balance in the knowledge of the right and left-handed techniques. At the same time, the analysis of technical and tactical actions in women wrestling shows the backlog of female athletes in these components of technical fitness.

Elite judo athletes undergo vigorous training to achieve outstanding results. In pursuit of achieving competitive success, the occurrence of injuries amongst judo athletes is not rare. The study aimed to perform a knee flexors and extensors isokinetic torque analysis in elite female judo athletes. Fifty-eight elite female judo athletes of the Serbian national team (21.02 ± 3.11 years; 62.36 ± 11.91 kg, 165.04 ± 10.24 cm, training experience 12.72 ± 2.98 years) volunteered to participate in this study. The range of motion (ROM) was set at 90⁰. Testing was performed in a concentric–concentric mode for the testing speed of 60 ⁰/s. Five maximal voluntary contractions of knee extensors and knee flexors muscle groups were measured for both legs. The obtained data showed a statistically significant difference in absolute torque values among different categories as heavier athletes demonstrated higher values. Post hoc analysis showed a significant difference between weight categories, as heavier athletes demonstrated higher values, while no significant differences in normalized torque values for different weight categories were observed. The implementation of new elements and training modalities may improve performance and prevent lateral asymmetry, thus reducing the risk of injury.

Analysis of Ukrainian athletes’ results at the XXXII Olympiad Games allows pointing out the factors of the weak performance of Ukrainian athletes in women's individual saber and epee competitions, as well as men's team epee competitions, despite the possibility of winning medals in these sports events according to many analysts including those of Infostrada Sports and other sports statistics experts. These, in our opinion, include an unsatisfactory level of efficiency of the process of reaching the peak of readiness for the Olympic Games; lack of psychological stability of athletes at the competitions; weak tactical preparation of some athletes. Based on the performances of athletes of the Ukrainian fencing team in Tokyo, a conclusion was made about the unsatisfactory level of athletes’ preparation for the XXXII Olympic Games. Only 20% of the national team members were able to realize their potential at the XXXII Olympic Games. The dynamics of the athletes’ results at the World Championships 2017 – 2019 indicates the need to use in the new Olympic cycle the planning, which is focused on our athletes reaching the peak of readiness for the Olympics: at first, the training should be aimed at the maximum stimulation of the growth of sportsmanship, whereas at the final stage it should be focused on its realization in the major competitions. It is shown that despite the unsuccessful performance of the Ukrainian fencing team in the Olympic Tokyo, this type of martial arts has significant potential for improving sports achievements at the XXXIII Olympic Games 2024 in Paris. It is noted that in the new Olympic cycle it is of crucial importance to identify candidates for the XXXIII Olympic Games as soon as possible and to create all the conditions for their full-fledged preparation. Thus, to ensure further winning medal places at the Olympic Games, it is necessary to improve the system of sports training in the Olympic cycle, which envisages participation in numerous competitions during the year to achieve a high level of readiness in the major competitions of triennial – the Olympic Games.
