Mihi est from Brythonic to Breton I

AbstractMiddle Breton (MB) presents a singular anomaly of pronominal argument coding. Objects are accusative proclitics save in two constructions, where coding is split by person: 3rd unique enclitics ~ 1st/2nd accusative proclitics. The constructions are HAVE, from Insular Celtic mihi est, where the new coding replaces inflectional nominatives (cf. Latin mihi est ~ sunt); and imperatives, where it replaces accusative enclitics in V1 (cf. French aide-moi ~ ne m’aide pas). The evolution is traced in light of a crosslinguistic construction type that suggests its nature, noncanonical subject + 3rd nominative ~ 1st/2nd accusative object. Part I: (1) Decomposition of HAVE as dative clitic + BE from Brythonic throughout “conservative” varieties of Breton. (2) Breton-Cornish innovation of nonclitic datives for mihi est and their subjecthood. Part II: (3) Brythonic unavailibility of mesoclisis in V1 and Breton-Cornish nonagreement with nominative objects, resulting in independent > enclitic pronouns for accusative objects of imperatives and nominative objects of mihi est. (4) MB alignment of imperatives with mihi est in 3rd person, restriction on nominative enclitics, and recruitment of 1st/2nd person accusative proclitics upon loss of mesoclisis. (5) Transition to accusative objects in “innovative” varieties and subject-object case interactions.

More than 30 international research and pilot seasonal thermal energy stores (TESs) were realized within the past 30 years. Experiences with operation of these systems show that TES are technically feasible and work well. Seasonal storage of solar thermal energy or of waste heat from heat and power cogeneration plants can significantly contribute to substitute fossil fuels in future energy systems. However, performance with respect to thermal losses and lifetime has to be enhanced, while construction costs have to be further reduced. This paper gives an overview about the state-of-the-art of seasonal thermal energy storage with the focus on tank and pit TES construction. Aspects of TES modeling are given. Based on modeled and measured data, the influence of construction type, system configuration, and boundary conditions on thermal losses of large-scale TES is identified. The focus is on large-scale applications with tank and pit thermal energy stores and on recent investigations on suitable materials and constructions. Furthermore, experiences with the operation of these systems with respect to storage performance are discussed.

<p>In our research we describe the micro-climatological influences of two heat-waves around and the air temperature development in a certain old people’s home in Helsinki, Finland. The stand-alone six-storey concrete building was erected in the late 1970’s and represents the prevailing construction type of this area. The building is located on a slightly southwards declining slope.</p><p>The first simulation used real meteorological forcing-data from the heat-wave event in summer 2018, which lasted from July, 13<sup>th</sup> until August, 5<sup>th</sup>. In this period the daily maximum air temperature reached almost every day 25 °C and more, sometimes even more than 30 °C. All air temperature, wind, humidity, and solar radiation (cloudiness) measurements were conducted at a near-by synoptical weather station.</p><p>The second simulation used fourteen-day constructed meteorological forcing-data, based on a clear-sky, slowly increasing air temperature, higher than normal humidity, and low wind conditions assumption starting on July, 13<sup>th</sup> (day 194 of the year).</p><p>We used the holistic ENVI-met simulation soft-ware to simulate the physical environment around the old people’s home and especially the energy fluxes inside the concrete walls to explain the needs for cooling demands.</p><p>The research is part of the HEATCLIM-project financed by the Academy of Finland Science Program CLIHE (2020-2023).</p>

Abstract. The furnaces of Salamanca were built during the period in which the British Tobacco Company operated in this area of the Region of Coquimbo in Chile (1960's to 1990's). A semi-industrial model of tobacco production was inserted, in which local farmers received technical training and materials to grow tobacco plants. During a first period the company bought green tobacco leaves, while later encouraging the sale of dried tobacco. This meant that local producers had to build their own furnaces, under the company's technical instructions. These instructions were delivered through architectural plans produced by the company, which were interpreted by local farmers according to their own vernacular construction knowledge. This combination resulted in a huge variety of constructive techniques – primarily based on earth – represented in one only architectural form. A cadastre accomplished by the authors in 2019 registered examples of furnaces built with adobe, quincha, tabique and a combination of several of these building systems. Similar systems also present variations - expressed especially in the use of different earthquake-resistant devices. These attend to variable economic conditions and constructive cultures of the local farmers. This article presents the register of 24 furnace ensambles located in 7 areas of Salamanca, characterized according to their construction type and state of conservation. These entries provide information on the richness of vernacular construction of the area and the efficiency of case-specific building solutions.

The large intra-class variance and small inter-class variance are the key factor affecting fine-grained image classification. Recently, some algorithms have been more accurate and efficient. However, these methods ignore the multi-scale information of the network, resulting in insufficient ability to capture subtle changes. To solve this problem, a weakly supervised fine-grained classification network based on multi-scale pyramid is proposed in this paper. It uses pyramid convolution kernel to replace ordinary convolution kernel in residual network, which can expand the receptive field of the convolution kernel and use complementary information of different scales. Meanwhile, the weakly supervised data augmentation network (WS-DAN) is used to prevent over fitting and improve the performance of the model. In addition, a new attention module, which includes spatial attention and channel attention, is introduced to pay more attention to the object part in the image. The comprehensive experiments are carried out on three public benchmarks. It shows that the proposed method can extract subtle feature and achieve classification effectively.

Euthynus is one of the fish that is widely consumed for the enjoyment of the people of Indonesia or abroad, because of its very soft quality, easy to obtain, and contains a lot of essential protein amino acids that are good for the body. This research aims to identify the freshness of the fish purchased based on the eyes and fish gills. The initial process of identifying the freshness of fish uses several methods. Image input process through image object taking using a cell phone camera. The image object is used to determine the value of the RGB image object. RGB color extraction clarifies the value obtained from the image object before proceeding to the next process. Image resize is the process of cutting the image on the desired object part. Image conversion using the HSV method was used to determine the freshness of fish in the gills. The Local Binary Pattern method is used to determine the freshness of the fisheye. The next step is to refine the RGB image into Morphology. The KNN (K-Nearest Neighbor Method) method is used to group objects based on learning data closest to the object. The journal analysis results on the comparison of methods, after 45 trials for each method, found that the Hue Saturation Value method obtained the highest success by 90% and for the texture value obtained 85% success.

AbstractI offer a diachronic perspective on English ellipsis alternation, or the alternation between inclusion and omission of prepositions from remnants under sluicing and bare argument ellipsis. The relative freedom to omit prepositions from remnants has not been stable in English; this freedom is connected to the strength of semantic dependencies between prepositions and verbs. Remnants without prepositions are first attested, but remain less frequent than remnants with prepositions, as late as Early Modern English and gain in frequency following this period. I demonstrate that three constraints—correlate informativity, structural persistence, and construction type—predict ellipsis alternation in Early and Late Modern English. However, predicting ellipsis alternation in present-day English requires semantic dependencies in addition to the three constraints. The constraints can be subsumed under principles of language processing and production (considerations of accessibility, a tendency to reuse structure, and a conventionalized performance preference for efficiently accessing constituents that form processing domains), permitting a unified processing account of ellipsis alternation with cross-linguistic coverage.
