Abstract How does political involvement impact on data quality of virtualized Real-Time-Response (RTR) Measurement? The article addresses this issue, drawing on a large field study (n = 5660) conducted during the 2017 German general election campaign. Since it is unclear how heterogeneous characteristics of individuals influence data quality of RTR-Measurement from audiences surveyed outside the lab, we assess the impact of political involvement on the reliability and validity of virtualized real-time-response data. We show that political involvement shapes reliability and validity systematically but to a degree that does not compromise established standards of data quality. Thus, we conclude that virtualized RTR outside the laboratory with limited means of control is an appropriate method to survey heterogeneous samples in large N-field studies and therefore offers new paths of data collection.

AbstractTelevised debates are major events in electoral campaigns, serving voters as a substantial source of political information and reaching millions of the potential electorate. Scholars have made use of this potential by applying Real-Time Response Measurement (RTR) to assess reception and perception processes. However, RTR-research has yet almost exclusively focused on duel scenarios. In this paper, we argue that the focus on the duel format in political and communication science research is inappropriate. Thus, we apply virtualized RTR on TV-debates with a multi-person panel. Drawing on data of two field studies (n = 1191/1058) conducted with the Debat-O-Meter – an innovative virtualized RTR-Measurement toolbox – in the course of the 2017 federal election in Germany, we show that virtualized RTR-Measurement can indeed produce valid and reliable data regarding TV-discussions with a multi-person podium. Additionally, we find perception processes to be primarily shaped by party identification and prior political preferences such as candidate orientation. Furthermore, our results give strong evidence that candidate preferences are substantially affected by debate reception. Overall, our data follows an established structure well-known from research on TV-duels. As such, research on TV discussions with a multi-person panel is compatible with the existing repertoire of methods, offers great potential for political communication research and provides results that can be linked to current findings in empirical debate research while making its own contribution to the research field.

Abstract Real-time response (RTR) measurement is an important technique to assess human processing of information. Ever since Maier et al. verified the reliability and validity of physical RTR devices in this journal a decade ago, there has been a growing trend toward virtual measurement platforms to overcome the limitations of conventional, laboratory-based methods. We introduce the Debat-O-Meter, a novel online RTR platform for mobile devices, which allows researchers to measure how viewers perceive political debates in the setting of their private homes. We draw on a large study (N = 5,660) conducted during the 2017 German general election campaign and show that virtualized measurement indeed facilitates diverse and large N field studies while simultaneously conforming to established standards of reliability and validity.

Abstract Background A person’s chronic health condition or disability can have a huge impact on the quality of life (QoL) of the whole family, but this important impact is often ignored. This literature review aims to understand the impact of patients' disease on family members across all medical specialities, and appraise existing generic and disease-specific family quality of life (QoL) measures. Methods The databases Medline, EMBASE, CINHAL, ASSIA, PsycINFO and Scopus were searched for original articles in English measuring the impact of health conditions on patients' family members/partner using a valid instrument. Results Of 114 articles screened, 86 met the inclusion criteria. They explored the impact of a relative's disease on 14,661 family members, mostly 'parents' or 'mothers', using 50 different instruments across 18 specialities including neurology, oncology and dermatology, in 33 countries including the USA, China and Australia. These studies revealed a huge impact of patients' illness on family members. An appraisal of family QoL instruments identified 48 instruments, 42 disease/speciality specific and six generic measures. Five of the six generics are aimed at carers of children, people with disability or restricted to chronic disease. The only generic instrument that measures the impact of any condition on family members across all specialities is the Family Reported Outcome Measure (FROM-16). Although most instruments demonstrated good reliability and validity, only 11 reported responsiveness and only one reported the minimal clinically important difference. Conclusions Family members' QoL is greatly impacted by a relative's condition. To support family members, there is a need for a generic tool that offers flexibility and brevity for use in clinical settings across all areas of medicine. FROM-16 could be the tool of choice, provided its robustness is demonstrated with further validation of its psychometric properties.

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact and the electronic service quality of the national zakat management information system (SIMBA) on the national zakat collection. This paper uses a multiple regression analysis in its explorative attempt to illustrate the impact of SIMBA implementation on the national zakat collection. It shows that SIMBA is positive and significantly impact the national zakat collection as well as the human development index that is used as a proxy for the human resource management quality of zakat institutions in the respective city. Nonetheless, the population is negative and significant to the zakat collection as endemic poverty and reluctance to pay zakat are indicated as the reasons. Moreover, this study has succeeded in adapting and conducting e-service quality survey to zakat information system realm. All the tests prove that the instrument in this study has a high degree of reliability and validity. The results show that some of the demographic factors significantly impact the perceived performance of SIMBA. Multiple regression analysis that is conducted in this study shows that e-service quality dimension is positive and significant towards SIMBA’ overall quality, perceived value, and loyalty intention. This study contributes to the zakat management system literature, especially in the impact of the national zakat information system, which is pivotal in enhancing zakat collection and poverty alleviation program funded by zakat.

Web Real-Time Communication (WebRTC) combines a set of standards and technologies to enable high-quality audio, video, and auxiliary data exchange in web browsers and mobile applications. It enables peer-to-peer multimedia sessions over IP networks without the need for additional plugins. The Opus codec, which is deployed as the default audio codec for speech and music streaming in WebRTC, supports a wide range of bitrates. This range of bitrates covers narrowband, wideband, and super-wideband up to fullband bandwidths. Users of IP-based telephony always demand high-quality audio. In addition to users’ expectation, their emotional state, content type, and many other psychological factors; network quality of service; and distortions introduced at the end terminals could determine their quality of experience. To measure the quality experienced by the end user for voice transmission service, the E-model standardized in the ITU-T Rec. G.107 (a narrowband version), ITU-T Rec. G.107.1 (a wideband version), and the most recent ITU-T Rec. G.107.2 extension for the super-wideband E-model can be used. In this work, we present a quality of experience model built on the E-model to measure the impact of coding and packet loss to assess the quality perceived by the end user in WebRTC speech applications. Based on the computed Mean Opinion Score, a real-time adaptive codec parameter switching mechanism is used to switch to the most optimum codec bitrate under the present network conditions. We present the evaluation results to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach when compared with the default codec configuration in WebRTC.

Annotation Purpose. Improving the efficiency of entomophages production by developing innovative approaches for it management. Methods. System approach, intelligent information technologies. Results. Innovative approaches for it management of entomophages production have been developed, which consist of: determining and ranking the factors that have the greatest impact on the quality of entomological products, and factors that lead to substandard products; the creation of structural and parametric complexes for assessing product quality; real-time assessment of the intensity of entomocultures development processes; automation of management abiotic parameters stepwise development of insects (temperature and relative humidity of the box for growing of insects) in real time; determining the quality of entomological products in conditions of incomplete information, taking into account the impact of a combination of abiotic and biotic production parameters; calculation of optimal values of production parameters in conditions of uncertainty; systematization of knowledge about the interaction of heterogeneous parameters in the production of entomophages. Conclusions. The proposed innovative approaches to manage the production of entomophages can increase its efficiency by forming optimal management strategies, using the technological experience of specialists and modern intelligent information technologies in particular, SCADA-systems, fuzzy logic theory and cognitive analysis. Abstract Due to high demand for energy, oil and gas companies started to drill wells in remote areas and unconventional environments. This raised the complexity of drilling operations, which were already challenging and complex. To adapt, drilling companies expanded their use of the real-time operation center (RTOC) concept, in which real-time drilling data are transmitted from remote sites to companies’ headquarters. In RTOC, groups of subject matter experts monitor the drilling live and provide real-time advice to improve operations. With the increase of drilling operations, processing the volume of generated data is beyond a human's capability, limiting the RTOC impact on certain components of drilling operations. To overcome this limitation, artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) technologies were introduced to monitor and analyze the real-time drilling data, discover hidden patterns, and provide fast decision-support responses. AI/ML technologies are data-driven technologies, and their quality relies on the quality of the input data: if the quality of the input data is good, the generated output will be good; if not, the generated output will be bad. Unfortunately, due to the harsh environments of drilling sites and the transmission setups, not all of the drilling data is good, which negatively affects the AI/ML results. The objective of this paper is to utilize AI/ML technologies to improve the quality of real-time drilling data. The paper fed a large real-time drilling dataset, consisting of over 150,000 raw data points, into Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Decision Tree (DT) models. The models were trained on the valid and not-valid datapoints. The confusion matrix was used to evaluate the different AI/ML models including different internal architectures. Despite the slowness of ANN, it achieved the best result with an accuracy of 78%, compared to 73% and 41% for DT and SVM, respectively. The paper concludes by presenting a process for using AI technology to improve real-time drilling data quality. To the author's knowledge based on literature in the public domain, this paper is one of the first to compare the use of multiple AI/ML techniques for quality improvement of real-time drilling data. The paper provides a guide for improving the quality of real-time drilling data.

Improved Data Quality (DQ) can improve the quality of decisions and lead to better policy in health organizations. Ontologies can support automated tools to assess DQ. This chapter examines ontology-based approaches to conceptualization and specification of DQ based on “fitness for purpose” within the health context. English language studies that addressed DQ, fitness for purpose, ontology-based approaches, and implementations were included. The authors screened 315 papers; excluded 36 duplicates, 182 on abstract review, and 46 on full-text review; leaving 52 papers. These were appraised with a realist “context-mechanism-impacts/outcomes” template. The authors found a lack of consensus frameworks or definitions for DQ and comprehensive ontological approaches to DQ or fitness for purpose. The majority of papers described the processes of the development of DQ tools. Some assessed the impact of implementing ontology-based specifications for DQ. There were few evaluative studies of the performance of DQ assessment tools developed; none compared ontological with non-ontological approaches.

We used a multiple-probe single-case research design to examine the effect of a professional development package that included real-time technology-enhanced performance-based feedback and video analysis on three preschool teachers’ use of naturalistic instruction targeting children’s communication and child responses. We also measured the quality of the teachers’ naturalistic instruction targeting children’s communication. The professional development package was effective in enhancing teachers’ use of naturalistic instruction targeting children’s communication. In addition, children responded and teachers enhanced the quality of naturalistic instruction targeting children’s communication. Teachers maintained their use of naturalistic instruction targeting children’s communication upon removal of the intervention condition.
