Abstract Phytochemical analysis of the antioxidant ethanolic extract of Alternanthera tenella Colla led to the isolation of six flavonoids, acacetin 8-C-[α-ʟ-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-β-ᴅ-glucopyranoside] (1), 2″-O-α-ʟ-rhamnopyranosyl-vitexin (2), 2″-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl-vitexin (3), vitexin (4), quercetin (5) and kaempferol (6). All the structures were established by ESIMS and NMR spectroscopic methods. Antioxidant capacity of extract, fractions and isolated compounds was determined using the oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) assay and extract, fractions and flavonoids isolated showed antioxidant activity in vitro. Moreover, the total soluble phenolic contents of the extract and fractions were measured using the Folin- Ciocalteau reagent and the quantitative analysis of flavone C-glycosides major constituents was performed by HPLC

Objective: The present study evaluates purification, characterization of anthocyanin from in vitro culture of teak and its antioxidant potential.Methods: Anthocyanin was extracted from in vitro culture, purified by using amber lite XAD column and fractionated by Liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Various antioxidant assays were carried such as 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate (DPPH), 2,2'-azino-bis-3-ethyl-benzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid (ABTS), Oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC), Nitric oxide (NO) and Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2).Results: Liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) revealed the major fraction as cyanidin 3-(2-xylosyl-rutinoside) with unknown peaks. The amount of anthocyanin was 15.23 mg/g monomeric anthocyanin. Further, the potential antioxidant capacity of the teak anthocyanin was comparable to common vegetables and fruits. Similarly, high correlations of anthocyanin with antioxidant activity, such as oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC), 2,2'-azino-bis-3-ethyl-benzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid (ABTS), and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate (DPPH) (r = 0.95, 0.93, and 0.80) were found.Conclusion: The high anthocyanins content and potential antioxidant activity suggests that teak anthocyanin may be applied in the food industry as a good source of natural pigments

In the Indian ayurvedic system of medicine, Nymphaea nouchali is used for the treatment of diabetes, inflammation, liver disorders, cutaneous diseases, blenorrhagia, urinary disorders, menorrhagia, menstruation problem, as an aphrodisiac, bitter tonic, antimicrobial agent and anti antihepatotoxic effect.  The aim of the present study is to examine Nymphaea nouchali flowers for phytochemical profile, in vitro antioxidant activities. Qualitative analysis of various phytochemical constituents and quantitative analysis of total phenolics and flavonoids were determined by the well-known test protocol available in the literature. Quantitative analysis of phenolic and flavonoids was carried out by Folins Ciocalteau reagent method and aluminium chloride method respectively. The In vitro antioxidant activity of ethanolic extract of the flowers was assessed against nitric oxide, hydrogen peroxide assay using standard protocols. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of phenols, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, alkaloids, fixed oil and fats. The total phenolics content of flowers ethanolic extract was (18.4 mg/100mg), followed by flavonoids (12.4mg/100mg). The activities of ethanolic flowers extract against nitric oxide and hydrogen peroxide were concentration dependent with IC50 values of 68.39 and 64.54 μg/ml respectively. The present study concluded that the crude extract of Nymphaea nouchali is a potential source of natural antioxidants and this justifies its use in folkloric medicine. BACKGROUND: The popular commercially cultivated Pleurotus ostreatus mushroom contains very high nutrients and bioactive compounds with high antioxidant activity. The ethanolic extract seems to be the most active in preparation. AIM: This study has an aim to compare the phytochemical analysis of a fresh, dry and ethanolic extract of Pleurotus ostreatus, to measure the total phenolic content and antioxidant activities in vitro of ethanolic extracts of Pleurotus ostreatus. METHODS: The fresh plant's materials (FPM), dry plants materials (DPM), ethanolic extracts were macerated with 70% (EE70) and 96% ethanol (EE96) of Pleurotus ostreatus which were used for phytochemical analysis, and EE96 was used for antioxidant activity in vitro. The phytochemical analysis was conducted using the Dragendorf and Meyer, FeCl3 test, Salkowsky method, Lieberman method, amyl alcohol, foam test and the NaOH reagent. The total phenol test was carried out using the Follin-Ciocalteu method. The antioxidant activity was tested using the ABTS and H2O2 essay. RESULTS: The phytochemical screening showed that the flavonoid, phenolic compounds, tannin, saponin, alkaloids, and steroids were detected in the FPM, DPM, EE70 and also the EE96. The alkaloid, however, was not identified by the Meyer Reagent in the FPM and DPM. The DPM and EE70 seemed to have the highest amount of saponin based on the foam that was formed. Meanwhile, steroids and flavonoids were detected at a higher level in the EE96, based on the strength of visible colour. However, triterpenoid and quinones could not be identified. In the total phenol test, there was an amount of 6.67 μg phenol in a 1 mg extract sample which was equivalent to 1 mg of Gallic Acid. The EE96 has an IC50 of 108.07 μg/mL for ABTS and an IC50 reduction of 229.17 μg/mL. The process of Pleurotus ostreatus drying did not reduce the content of active substances. The polar active substances seem to be more soluble in the EE70 than the EE96. CONCLUSION: The higher the bioactive substances in the preparation, the more significant the bio-therapeutic effects. Ethanolic extract of Pleurotus ostreatus has a phenol content and a good antioxidant action.

The ethanolic extract of the leaves of Cassia occidentalis (Co) were subjected to phytochemical analysis by standard qualitative analysis and the invitro antioxidant activity was evaluated by determination of total antioxidant capacity, 1.1- diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) radical scavenging activity, superoxide scavenging activity and Ferric reducing anti oxidant potential (FRAP). The analyses revealed that the ethanolic extract of Co was able to efficiently scavenge the free radicals in a dose dependant manner. The results were compared with the standard antioxidant ascorbic acid. The results have shown that crude ethanolic extract of the leaves of Co showed excellent antioxidant activity due to the presence of bioactive compounds namely alkaloids, betacyanin, cardiac glycosides, coumarins, flavonoids, phenols, steroids, saponins, tannins, terpenoids, anthraquinones and emodins.

Plants are major sources of bioactive organic molecules that are of interest to the pharmaceutical industry and are being screened for new drugs and chemicals. Glycyrrhiza glabra Linn. (Family: Fabaceae) also known as Liquorice, Mulaithi, or Yashtimadu is a well-known medicinal plant used in traditional medicine. Its roots and rhizomes are the medicinal parts used and are reported to possess antitumor, antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, immunoregulatory activities. This plant is also used as a flavoring agent due to its sweetness. In the present work, the ethanolic extract of Glycyrrhiza glabra was prepared, and its phytochemical analysis was done using HPLC. The in vitro antioxidant assays such as DPPH radical scavenging assay, Hydroxyl radical scavenging assay, total antioxidant activity assay, and total reducing power assay were done, and the results showed significant antioxidant activity of the extract. The extract was analyzed further to evaluate the ability to protect against oxidative stress in chicken liver tissue. The levels of glutathione and lipid peroxidation in H2O2 and/or G glabra extract-treated tissue indicated the potential to protect against oxidative stress under in vitro conditions. The in vitro comet assay results showed that the G glabra extract protected against H2O2 induced cellular DNA damage. These findings indicated promising antioxidant and antigenotoxic potential of G.glabra and need further exploration for translating these findings to its possible health benefits.

Kalanchoe pinnata (Lam.) Pers. has many pharmacological properties such as anticancer, antidiabetic, insecticidal, antimicrobial, anti-urolithiatic, etc. The plant leaves are used as ethno medicine traditionally. Many diseases are associated with oxidative stress caused by free radicals. The aim of the present study was to evaluate physicochemical, qualitative and quantitative phytochemical analysis and in vitro antioxidant activities of leaf of Kalanchoe pinnata collected from Bhopal region of Madhya Pradesh.The physicochemical evaluations carried out in terms of loss on drying, ash value, extractive values and acid insoluble ash value ect. Qualitative analysis of various phytochemical constituents and quantitative analysis of total phenolics and flavonoids were determined by the well-known test protocol available in the literature. Quantitative analysis of phenolic and flavonoids was carried out by FolinsCiocalteau reagent method and Aluminium chloride method respectively. The In vitro antioxidant activity of ethanolic extract of the leaf was assessed against DPPH assay method using standard protocols. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of phenols, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, alkaloids. The total phenolics content of leaves ethanolic extract was (4.63mg/100mg), followed by flavonoids (2.03mg/100mg). The activities of ethanolic leaves extract against DPPH assay method were concentration dependent with IC 50 values of ascorbic acid and extracts 24.44 and 49.81μg/ml respectively. These studies provided information for standardization and correct identification of this plant material. The diverse array of phytochemicals present in the plant thus suggests its therapeutic potentials which may be explored in drug manufacturing industry as well as in traditional medicine. The present study was designed to explore some of the quality principles and <em>in vitro</em> antioxidant exploration of <em>Silene villosa</em> “a non-intentional” herb. The pharmacognostical study and phytochemical evaluation of the herbs of <em>S. villosa</em> was carried out following the reported methods. The total phenolic contents and antioxidant potential of the methanol extract was also evaluated applying the standard methods. Microscopic features of the Transverse Section (T.S) of the root were observed as epidermis, medullary rays, xylem cells, phloem cells. The microscopic study of the powder showed the presence of spiral vessels, lignified fibre or tannin containing cells. The extractive value showed the water soluble materials were higher than the alcohol soluble materials. Primarily phytochemical analysis and total phenolic contents (11.78±0.169 %) in powder and extract respectively were conducted. The methanol extract of <em>S. villosa</em> showed dose dependent antioxidant activity. The present study helps in authentication of <em>S. villosa</em> and enhances further exploration of the health benefits due to the presence of phenolic contents and antioxidant property.
