Conversation Analysis (CA) deals with the description of the microscopic and corpus-driven data in an ‘unmotivating looking’ analytical fashion. As long as there are new, interesting, or deviant features from the data, they are always worthy of a micro analysis. For this paper, we report the ‘question-declaration coupling’ in meeting talks as a new feature and explicate it through the discourse of social inequality and collegiality in the academe. The data came from a total of five recorded meetings from three departments, such as Education, Arts Science, and Social Work, in a private university in Manila, Philippines. The meetings lasted for five hours and 50 minutes. From adjacency pairs of question-answer, the sequential pattern shows that the questions deserve conspicuous answers from the subordinates, but the Chair automatically couples them with declarative sentences and other utterances that serve as continuers. The pattern is categorised as a strategic turn-suppressing mechanism to hold back the members from possibly challenging the existing policies of the institution. It is also seen as a strategic mechanism to deprive the members of extending the litanies of possible counter-arguments. From a positive perspective, we argue that it is through the air of social inequality and collegiality that people are able to know their boundaries in an ongoing interaction. Toward the end, we state the implications of the results for teaching and learning socio-pragmalinguistics. We also recommend future cross-linguistic comparisons for these microscopic features under study, considering the small corpus of this study.

A systematic survey of lichens was performed in 2019 in four of the five territories constituting the French Scattered Islands (Europa Island, Juan de Nova, Glorioso Islands, and Tromelin) focusing on the genus Ramalina. Species were characterized using morphological (macroscopic and microscopic) features and an accurate chemical profiling method based on high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with diode-array detection and electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-DAD-MS). Five species were found in these territories. Two of them, Ramalina dumeticola and R. ovalis, are already known. Three species are introduced here as new to science: Ramalina gloriosensis sp. nov., R. hivertiana sp. nov., and R. marteaui sp. nov. An identification key is provided for the species found in the area and morphologically closely related taxa.

Osteoblastoma (OB) and osteoid osteoma (OO) are benign bone-forming tumors, with nearly identical basic microscopic features. The main difference is dimension (OO has usually a nidus measuring <2 cm in diameter). In addition, OB is biologically more active than OO, with a tendency to grow in size. Historically, treatments have included surgical resection and analgesics, although invasiveness and poor tolerance have led to the current standard of care moving toward interventional radiology, where radiofrequency ablation (RFA) represents the most diffuse technique. Magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound surgery (MRgFUS) has recently emerged as another innovative alternative treatment, providing tumor ablation through a needleless and ionizing radiation-free modality. In addition, this technique has the ability to guarantee a very precise and controlled increase in temperature, delivering small amounts of energy that can accurately destroy only the lesion, avoiding healthy surrounding tissues. The present review focuses on MRgFUS as the less invasive, safe, effective, and durable treatment option for the management of osteoid osteoma and osteoblastoma, including a description of technical details, indications and outcomes.

Onion is an inevitable part of our food habits. Fungal infection is one of the major reasons of onion spoilage which not only cause economic losses but also may cause public health threat through mycoses and mycotoxicoses. A total 15 onion samples from different places in Chattagram, Bangladesh were collected to assess the fungal contaminants.Onion consumers along with retailers were interviewed to evaluate their awareness about fungal food spoilage and associated health risk. Three different fungal species were identified and isolated by analysing their macroscopic and microscopic features. These isolates were Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, and Penicillium spp. A. niger was the most prevalent and found in 14 samples out of 15. Biochemical characterization of the isolated fungi was also done to assess their ability to produce extracellular enzymes and amylase, protease, and cellulase activities were observed. Survey data showed that only around 20% of the interviewees had some idea about fungal contamination, while nearly about 80% of them believed that washing, sunburn and cooking can make the food safe. The purpose of the study was to disclose topographic anatomical features of the extra- and intramuscular innervation points of the leg. Materials and methods. 15 adult human subjects and one-month old baby legs at three levels were studied using such methods: cross-sections according to N.I. Pirogov technique, histotopographic sections, macro-microscopic method, histological staining with hematoxylin-eosin and Krutsay. Results. In our macro-microscopic study, the main attention was paid to the individual anatomical variability in the innervation of the lower leg muscles. Study of the nerves of the leg muscles allowed to clarify the course of the neurovascular bundle of the leg at its three levels, taking into account individual age characteristics, and also to show the myeloarchitectonics of both the main nerve trunks and their intramuscular branches. Such differences in the location of the leg muscles of an adult and of one month-old baby undoubtedly related to the fact that the child’s muscular belly is longer in relation to the tendon. The histotopography of intramuscular nerves on total transverse sections of antagonistic muscles was studied: flexor and extensor digitorum longus, longus flexor and extensor of the big toe, and also the spectrum of myelin fibers contained in these nerves in a one-month-old baby and an adult was investigated. On histotopographic sections of the extensor digitorum longus nerve in a one-month-old baby, thick-diameter myelin fibers are absent, whereas in the long finger flexor nerve, on average, they are 0.5%. The number of thin and medium is respectively 8%, 13% and 83.5%, 16%. However, we have determined individual anatomical variability in the location of the vessels in relation to the main nerve trunks, as well as differences in the topography of the nerve in the corresponding muscles. Conclusion. In the nerves of the leg muscles, features were found, both in quantitative and qualitative composition of the conductors forming them; in the nerves of the flexor muscles, the composition of the nerve fibers is more diverse (with a slight predominance of the number of medium, thick and very thick fibers), which is associated with the peculiarity of their functions; in adulthood, the % ratio in the spectrum of myelin fibers in the nerves of the lower leg changes significantly

The variation in mineral composition will affect the rock brittleness, thus the change of mineral assemblages during diagenesis has a potential control on the brittleness of mudstones. In this study, thin section, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analyses were used to investigate compositional and microscopic features of mudstones. With the enhancement of diagenesis, three mineral assemblages were divided due to the diagenetic evolution of minerals. Quartz, feldspar, dolomite, chlorite, and illite were regarded as brittle minerals and (quartz + feldspar + dolomite + illite + chlorite)/(detrital mineral + carbonate + clay mineral) was defined as the brittleness evaluation index The mudstone brittleness changed slightly during early diagenesis but increased gradually with enhancement of diagenesis in the late diagenesis stage. Quartz and feldspar were scattered above the clay matrix and the contact of grains was limited, therefore, the contribution of detrital minerals to the brittleness was affected by the properties of clay minerals. The diagenetic transformation of clay minerals resulted in the reduction of ductile components (smectite/I-Sm and kaolinite) and increase of brittle components (illite and chlorite), leading to the enhancement of integral rigidity of the mudstones. Meanwhile, the improved crystallization of carbonate in late diagenesis stage enlarged the carbonate grains which resulted in rigid contact between grains. These results highlighted the influence of diagenesis on mudstone brittleness. Therefore, for evaluation of mudstone brittleness, attention should be paid to the diagenesis process besides mineral composition.

Primary solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) of the thyroid gland is a rare mesenchymal tumor with fibroblastic differentiation, ramified, thin-walled, enlarged (staghorn) vessels and specific NAB2-STAT6 gene fusion, which is more commonly found in pleura and peritoneum. This neoplasm can be located in a variety of anatomical sites outside pleura and peritoneum including bone, visceral organs and soft tissues, head and neck examples representing only 10-15% of the extra-pleural and extra-peritoneal tumors. Diagnosing this entity can be difficult, especially in thyroid gland, mainly because of the rarity of this neoplasm, but presence of characteristic microscopic features together with positivity for STAT6 and CD34 can confirm the diagnosis and exclude other differential diagnosis. Information about the diagnosis and treatment options of thyroid SFTs is limited but almost all primary thyroid SFTs have a good prognosis and indolent clinical course. Clinical surveillance is still necessary because some SFTs can be aggressive. Raising awareness regarding extra-pleural and extra-peritoneal location of this tumor in endocrine organs can help to better manage these patients. We report the case of a 34-year-old female with primary SFT of the thyroid gland. Additionally, we review the literature for the main clinical, paraclinical and pathological features of this neoplasm.

Solenostemon monostachyus P. Beauv (Lamiaceae), it’s ethnomedical uses include anti-plasmodial, anti-pyretic, antiulcerogenic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-nociceptive activities. The aim of this study was to employ the quality control parameters in the evaluation of the leaf and stem of Solenostemon monostachyus to aid in the identification and standardization of the medicinal plant. The plant leaves and stems were collected, identified, air-dried, pulverized and stored in separate glass containers. Standard procedures were employed to obtain the microscopic features of the fresh and powdered samples, micromeritic, chemomicroscopy, fluorescence properties, moisture contents, ash values and soluble extractive values. The results of the microscopic studies using fresh and powdered leaf samples revealed the presence of diacytic stomata on both the abaxial and adaxial surfaces (amphistomatic), with stomatal index of 27.9% and 14.8% respectively. The result of the micromeritics properties of the powdered leaf and stem samples showed angles of repose of 38.0o and 46.0o, Carr’s index of 23.7% and 32.5% and Hausner’s ratios of 1.3 and 1.5 respectively. Results for the moisture content, total, acid-insoluble and water-soluble ash values were 11.7%w/w, 13.7%w/w, 1.8%w/w and 9.4%w/w for the leaf and 13.3%w/w, 17.3%w/w, 1.8%w/w and 9.2%w/w for the stem respectively. Extractive values for water-soluble, methanol-soluble and ethanol-soluble were 26.5%w/w, 32.3%w/w, 14.5%w/w and 15.5%w/w, 15.8%w/w and 14.5%w/w for the leaf and stem respectively. Chemomicroscopy indicated the presence of lignin, calcium oxalate crystals and protein in the leaf and stem. The results obtained therefore could be used to establish pharmacopoeial standard for the fresh and powdered drug products of Solenostemon monostachyus, thus preventing adulteration.

The leaves and seeds of Aframomum alboviolaceum and Aframomum angustifolium are specifically used by traditional healers in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for the treatment of several pathologies. The aim of present study was to determine the microscopic characteristics and phytochemical composition of these species of the genus Aframomum. The microscopic study of these plants revealed the presence of punctate vessels, fiber cluster with calcium oxalate crystals, isolated unicellular hair, fibers, starch grains, spiral vessel fragments, fiber fragments, and indistinct parenchyma fragments. Phytochemical screening revealed several chemical groups such as phenolic acids, flavonoids, coumarins, alkaloids, terpenes, iridoids, saponins etc. The determination of total polyphenols, flavonoids and tannins gave contents ranging from 14.95 ± 0.45 and 63.98 ± 2.04 mgGAE/g, 0.16 ± 0.01 and 10.68 ± 0.32 mgQE/g and between 1.28 ± 0.03 and 28.51 ± 0.56 mg CAE/g respectively. In general, the leaves are richer in secondary metabolites, polyphenols, flavonoids and tannin than the seeds. Both plants also contain iron, magnesium, calcium and sodium. To our knowledge, this is the first time that histological elements have been identified in the leaves and seeds of A. angustifolium.

Amoebozoan parasites of arrow-worms (Chaetognatha) were isolated from their hosts living in plankton of the Bay of Villefranche (Mediterranean Sea). Based on the light microscopic characters, the amoebae were identified as Janickina pigmentifera (Grassi, 1881) by their limax locomotive form and due to the presence of the intracellular symbiont, Perkinsela amoebae, surrounded by a layer of pigment granules. Sequences of the 18S rRNA gene of both J. pigmentifera and its symbiont were obtained for the first time. The molecular phylogenetic analyses of 18S rRNA gene placed J. pigmentifera within the genus Neoparamoeba, a taxon also characterized by the presence of a symbiont, known as Perkinsela amoebae-like organism (PLO). The 18S rRNA gene sequence of P. amoebae from J. pigmentifera grouped with the sequences of 18S rRNA genes of PLOs from Neoparamoeba branchiphila and Neoparamoeba invadens. The first photo documentation of the light microscopic features of J. pigmentifera, such as locomotive form, the morphology of the nucleus and P. amoebae have been provided. The new results support the affinity of J. pigmentifera with the family Paramoebidae suggested previously based on the presence of PLO. In contrast to Janickina, typical members of Paramoebidae (Neoparamoeba and Paramoeba) have a flattened, dactylopodial locomotive form. This discrepancy in morphology can be explained by the obligate parasitic lifestyle of Janickina.
