Background. Cancer is one of the world’s biggest health care challenges, with colorectal cancer (CRC) being one of the three most frequently encountered malignancy worldwide. The main cause of mortality associated with CRC is tumour invasion and metastasis. Pathogenesis of CRC is a multistep process, during which different molecular pathways come into play. The cardinal genomic alteration that has been found universally present in CRC is a mutation in the adenomatous polyposis coli gene (APC). APC mutation causes unrestricted action of the Wnt signaling pathway which subsequently enhances the intracellular accumulation of a protein called beta-catenin, responsible for cell proliferation, differentiation and enhanced survival of colorectal epithelial cells. Aim. This study was conducted to analyze beta–catenin expression in various colorectal neoplasms, and its change with respect to different grades and stage of colorectal adenocarcinoma. Study design. This was a cross-sectional observational study. Methods. A total of 66 cases were enrolled in this study. Census method of sampling was used. Data was collected using a pre-designed, pretested semi-structured schedule on dependent variables like beta–catenin expression and independent variables like clinico-pathological profile including dietary history, macroscopic findings, histological type, histological grade, stage and other relevant parameters. An institution based cross sectional observational study was performed between February 2016 and July 2017. Representative sections taken from the specimens included in the study were subjected to histopathological examination followed by immunohistochemistry [IHC] for beta-catenin expression; the data obtained were analyzed by mean ± SD, Student t test, Chi-square/ Fisher Exact test using statistical software SPSS 18.0. Results. A statistically significant correlation (P = 0.004), of beta–catenin localization and IHC score was noted between the benign, premalignant and malignant neoplasms following a gradual transition from a membranous to a nuclear positivity; also, a significant (P<0.001) correlation between beta–catenin nuclear score and the corresponding American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) stage of colorectal adenocarcinoma was also found in this study. Conclusion. The purpose of this study was to determine the change in beta-catenin expression which demonstrates a gradual shift from a membranous to subsequent cytoplasmic and nuclear positivity from normal colorectal tissue to benign, premalignant and malignant neoplasms respectively. This property of beta-catenin can determine the malignant potential of various premalignant neoplasms of the large intestine, thus aiding in an early initiation of prophylactic treatment, which can prevent the development of an invasive disease. The membranous, cytoplasmic and nuclear scores show a linear progression with the advancing stages of colorectal carcinoma, making beta–catenin a prognostic marker in malignant colorectal neoplasms.

Introduction: Colorectal Carcinoma (CRC) is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer related mortality globally. It is a source of concern for researchers worldwide and hence, a lot of emphasis is being given towards early detection and targeted drug therapy to improve the survival rate. Aim: To study the expression of beta-catenin in colonic polyps, adenomas and CRC and to associate beta-catenin expression with various clinicopathological features. Materials and Methods: This was a prospective cross-sectional study conducted in the Department of Pathology, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India from September 2018 to August 2020. Colonoscopic biopsies, mucinous carcinoma and poorly preserved tissue were excluded. Histopathological study and Immunohistochemistry evaluation of beta-catenin was done. Statistical analysis was done by using appropriate tests. A p-value of less than 0.05 was taken as statistically significant. Results: Out of 80 cases, 40 cases were benign lesions Non neoplastic polyp and adenoma) and 40 cases were adenocarcinoma. It was observed that benign lesions had maximum cases with preserved membranous expression (36/40) and very few cases (4/40) showed cytoplasmic expression of beta-catenin. But in carcinoma, high cytoplasmic expression was seen in 20/40 (50%) whereas 8/40 (20%) cases had nuclear positivity. Membranous beta-catenin expression was significantly higher in benign lesions than in the malignant lesions (IS:8.75±3.09 versus 4.30±2.70) respectively; (p<0.0001). But cytoplasmic beta-catenin expression was low in benign lesion as compared to malignant lesion (IS: 2.07±3.46 versus 5.35±3.14), respectively; (p<0.0001). However, nuclear beta-catenin expression was extremely low in benign lesions than in malignant lesions (0.08±0.47 versus 1.90±3.49), respectively; (p=0.0016), this difference was statistically significant. Conclusion: The present study demonstrates the change in beta-catenin expression with gradual transition from predominantly membranous pattern to cytoplasmic or nuclear as we progress from normal colorectal tissues to polyps, benign premalignant lesions and malignant neoplasms. This property of beta-catenin helps in determining malignant potential of various premalignant neoplasms of large intestine which in turn helps in initiating early prophylactic treatment.

Malaria is one of the health problems in Indonesia, especially West Sumatra. Determination of the description of Malaria disease in an area is needed to determine the spread and severity of the disease. This study aims to determine the frequency distribution according to age, sex and place of residence, description of the types of Plasmodium causes of Malaria and hematological features in Malaria patients at Siti Rahmah Padang Hospital in 2018. This type of research is a descriptive observational study with an approach or design cross section (cross sectional). The frequency distribution of Malaria sufferers in Siti Rahmah Padang Hospital in 2018 according to the highest age was in the age group 21-30 years as many as 28 cases (36.8%), the highest sex among men was 46 (60.5%) and the highest number of residences was found in Koto Tangah sub-district there were 31 cases (40.8%). The type of Plasmodium found in Malaria cases in Siti Rahmah Padang Hospital in 2018 was P. vivax (73 cases (96.05%)) and P. falciparum (3 cases (3.95%)). The results of laboratory tests on Hb, hematocrit, platelet and leukocyte levels in Malaria positive patients in Siti Rahmah Padang Hospital in 2018 were in the normal range.

Infeksi HPV dan pre kanker serviks (sel-sel abnormal pada leher rahim yang dapat menyebabkan kanker) telah menurun secara signifikan sejak vaksin HPV digunakan.Cakupan vaksinasi HPV masih rendah di Indonesia.Orang tua adalah pemegang tanggung jawab dan kewajiban utama di dalam penjaminan pemenuhan hak dasar anak untuk mendapatkan vaksinasi. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui faktor yang berhubungan (sikap, kepercayaan, dukungan orang tua) dengan kesediaan vaksinasi pada remaja putri. Jenis penelitian adalah survey analitik dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Penelitian dilaksanakan di SD Muhammadiyah Macanan, Ngemplak dan SMPN 1 Berbah, Sleman pada Mei-Juli 2019. Jumlah sampel 127 remaja putri beserta orang tuanya dipilih dengan accidental sampling. Instrumen kuesioner dan telah dilakukan uji validitas. Analisis bivariat dengan uji chi square (dukungan instrumen, emosional, kepercayaan orang tua) dan uji fisher exact (dukungan informasi dan sikap). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan 92,9% orang tua tidak memberikan dukungan informasi, 85% tidak memberikan dukungan instrumen, 75,6% memberikan dukungan emosional kepada putrinya terkait vaksinasi. Faktor yang berhubungan dengan kesediaan vaksinasi adalah dukungan instrumen (p-value = 0,048). Faktor yang menjadi pertimbangan terbanyak orang tua untuk mengijinkan anaknya di vaksinasi adalah keamanan vaksin (81,1%). Kesimpulan: Ada hubungan dukungan instrumen orang tua dengan kesediaan vaksinasi HPV pada remaja putri. HPV infections and cervical precancers (abnormal cells on the cervix that can lead to cancer) have dropped significantly since HPV vaccine has been in use. HPV vaccination coverage is still low in Indonesia. Parents are the main responsibility and obligation in guaranteeing the fulfillment of the child's basic rights to get a vaccination. The purpose of this study was to determine the related factors (attitudes, beliefs, parental support) with the willingness to participate in HPV vaccination among adolescent girls. This type of the study was analytic survey with cross sectional approach. The study was conducted at SD Muhammadiyah Macanan, Ngemplak and SMPN 1 Berbah, Sleman in May-July 2019. The sample was 127 adolescent girl and their parents selected by accidental sampling. The instrument used questionnaire and already undergone validity test. The bivariate analysis used chi square test (instrument and emotional support, parental trust) and fisher exact test (information support and attitude). The results showed 92.9% of parents did not provide information support, 85% did not provide instrument support, 75.6% provided emotional support to their daughters related to vaccination. Factors related to the willingness of vaccinations were instrument support (p-value = 0.048). The factor that was considered by most parents to allow their children to be vaccinated was vaccine safety (81.1%). Conclusion: There was a correlation between parental instrument support and HPV vaccination willingness of adolescent girls.
