Kaolin M1 and M2 studied by X-ray diffraction focus on the mullite phase, which is the main phase present in both products. The Williamson–Hall and Warren–Averbach methods for determining the crystallite size and microstrains of integral breadth β are calculated by the FullProf program. The integral breadth ( β) is a mixture resulting from the microstrains and size effect, so this should be taken into account during the calculation. The Williamson–Hall chart determines whether the sample is affected by grain size or microstrain. It appears very clearly that the principal phase of the various sintered kaolins, mullite, is free from internal microstrains. It is the case of the mixtures fritted at low temperature (1200 °C) during 1 h and also the case of the mixtures of the type chamotte cooks with 1350 °C during very long times (several weeks). This result is very significant as it gives an element of explanation to a very significant quality of mullite: its mechanical resistance during uses at high temperature remains.

AbstractWe have studied oxidation of various Si samples including: Ge implanted Si, CVD and MBE grown Si(0.4–4% Ge) alloys, and MBE grown Si-Si(Ge) superlattices. The samples were oxidized in pyrogenic steam (800–1000°C, atmospheric pressure) and at low temperature and high pressure (740°C, 205 atm of dry O2). The oxidized samples were analyzed with RBS/channeling and ellipsometry. An enhanced oxidation rate was seen for all Ge doped samples, compared with rates for pure Si. The magnitude of the enhancement increased with decreasing oxidation temperature. For steam oxidations the Ge was segregated from the oxide and formed an epitaxial layer at the Si-SiO2 interface; the quality of the epitaxy was highest for the highest oxidation temperatures. For high pressure oxidation the Ge was trapped in the oxide and the greatest enhancement in oxidation rate (>100%) was observed.

Preservation of materials using liquid nitrogen media has been widely used. One of them is used in the medical field, namely cryonic technology. Cryonics is a method of preservation at cold temperatures using a cryoprotectant in liquid nitrogen. To maintain the quality of the material, a sensor that can detect the temperature of liquid nitrogen is needed. Low temperature sensors with Cu and Ni based Resistance Temperature Detector with layers (RTD) have been made, but these sensors have a layer of Ni deposits that are not yet homogeneous. So quality improvement is needed by adding an external magnetic field. Based on this, the aim of this research is to synthesize a thin layer of Cu / Ni using electroplating method assisted by external magnets parallel to the ion currents

Physical and chemical indicators of bitumen quality of grade BND 70/100 with the added carbon nanopowder 2% by weight have been studied by laboratory test methods and analysis. High reaction ability of nanopowder particles and concentration of excess surface and internal energy in them have been determined, which provide the increase of low-temperature resistance, aggregate strength, and improvement of rheological properties of nanostructured bitumen. Essential structure variation has been proved: the increase of asphaltenes and oils content for 9% and 7.2% respectively due to the decrease of resins for 16.2% by weight. Methods have been discussed for preparing a liquid nanocarbon mix, adding of the mix into bitumen and homogenization of the bitumen. Some economic indicators have been represented which influence essentially the reduction for the cost value of the nanostructure bitumen.

The present study evaluated the effect of NPK fertilizer (17:17:17) rates (0, 100, 200, 300 and 400 kg ha-1) on the postharvest quality of field and greenhouse grown pepino melons (Solanum muricatum Ait.) stored at room temperature (15-22°C) and at low temperature (7°C). The study was carried out in randomized complete block design with fruits from the field and greenhouse, five NPK fertilizer rates as treatments and the two storage temperatures replicated three times. Data were collected on percentage fruit weight loss (PWL), total soluble solids (TSS), firmness and shelf life. Results indicated that greenhouse and field grown fruits from the control and plants supplied with 100 kg NPK ha-1 had low PWL at both storage temperatures. Field grown fruits from the control stored at room temperature had the highest TSS and were firmer after 28 days of storage. Field grown fruits not supplied with fertilizer and stored at low temperature had a shelf life of 27 and 26 days in trial one and two respectively. Application of 100 kg NPK ha-1 and storage of pepino melon fruits at low temperature can be used to enhance quality and shelf life.
