Ln(Mg1/2Ti1/2)O3 (Ln = Dy, La, Nd, Pr, Sm, Y) compositions have been prepared, and their pertinent properties for use as thin film substrates for YBa2Cu3Ox (YBCO) were measured. X-ray diffraction shows that Ln(Mg1/2Ti1/2)O3 compositions have noncubic symmetry and the GdFeO3-type structure. Dielectric constant measurements revealed values between 22 and 27, which are larger than those of the LnAlO3 family. Quality factor (=1/ tan δ) of the ceramic specimens measured at room temperature was larger than 3000 at 10 GHz. Among the compounds, La(Mg1/2Ti1/2)O3 exhibited the highest dielectric constant and the lowest dielectric loss. Chemical reaction was observed between Ln(Mg1/2Ti1/2)O3 (Ln = Dy, Sm, Y) and YBCO after annealing a 1 : 1 mixture at 950 °C. Considering dielectric and physical properties, La(Mg1/2Ti1/2)O3 and Sm(Mg1/2Ti1/2)O3 were determined to be suitable substrates for YBCO thin film used in microwave applications.

It is hardly possible to obtain rare earth doped CaWO4thin films directly through electrochemical techniques. A two-step method has been proposed to synthesize CaWO4:(Eu3+,Tb3+) thin films at room temperature. X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, spectrophotometer were used to characterize their phase, composition and luminescent properties. Results reveal that (Eu3+,Tb3+)-doped CaWO4films have a tetragonal phase. When the ratio of n (Eu)/n (Tb) in the solution is up to 3:1, CaWO4:(Eu3+,Tb3+) thin film will be enriched with Tb element; on the contrary, when the ratio in the solution is lower than 1:4, CaWO4:(Eu3+,Tb3+) thin film will be enriched with Eu element. Under the excitation of 242 nm, sharp emission peaks at 612, 543, 489 and 589 nm have been observed for CaWO4:(Eu3+,Tb3+) thin films.

SrBi1.8Ce0.2Nb2O9 (SBCN) and SrBi1.8Ce0.2Ta2O9 (SBCT) powders were prepared via solid-state reaction method. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the SBCN and SBCT powders have the single phase orthorhom-bic Aurivillius structure at room temperature. The contribution of Raman scattering and FTIR spectroscopy of these samples were relatively smooth and resemble each other. The calcined powders were uniaxially pressed and sintered at 1250?C for 8 h to obtaine dense ceramics. Dielectric constant, loss tangent and AC conductivity of the sintered Ce-doped SrBi2Nb2O9 and SrBi2Ta2O9 ceramics were measured by LCR meter. The Ce-doped SBN (SBCN) ceramics have a higher Curie temperature (TC) and dielectric constant at TC (380?C and ?? ~3510) compared to the Ce-doped SBT (SBCT) ceramics (330?C and ?? ~115) when measured at 100Hz. However, the Ce-doped SBT (SBCT) ceramics have lower conductivity and dielectric loss.

AbstractFollowing the theory, ferromagnetism is predicted in Mn- doped ZnO, Indeed, ferromagnetism above room temperature was recently reported in thin films as well as in bulk samples made of this material. Here, we have prepared Mn doped ZnO by electrodeposition. The samples have been characterized by X-ray diffraction and spectroscopic methods to ensure that the dopants are substitutional. Some samples exhibit weak ferromagnetic properties at room temperature, however to be useful for spintronics this material need additional carriers provided by others means.

CaCu 3 Ti 4 O 12 (CCTO) ceramics which has perovskite structure gained considerable attention due to its giant permittivity. But it has high tan δ (0.1 at 1 kHz) at room temperature, which needs to be minimized to the level of practical applications. Hence, TeO 2 which is a good glass former has been deliberately added to CCTO nanoceramic (derived from the oxalate precursor route) to explore the possibility of reducing the dielectric loss while maintaining the high permittivity. The structural, morphological and dielectric properties of the pure CCTO and TeO 2 added ceramics were studied using X-ray diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscope along with Energy Dispersive X-ray Analysis (EDX), spectroscopy and Impedance analyzer. For the 2.0 wt.% TeO 2 added ceramics, there is a remarkable difference in the microstructural features as compared to that of pure CCTO ceramics. This sample exhibited permittivity values as high as 7387 at 10 KHz and low dielectric loss value of 0.037 at 10 kHz, which can be exploited for the high frequency capacitors application.

A series thin film sample of YBCO with different value of Tc was studied by high-resolution X-ray diffraction. Two different threading dislocations, the in-plane twist and the out-of-plane tilt, were studied carefully. It is found that the value of Tc is much more sensitive to the substrate normal tilt than to the in-plane twist. Dislocations with different Burgers vectors are suggested to exert different influence on the value of Tc of the YBCO thin film. The screw dislocation in the film is strongly influences the properties of the YBCO.

Thin films of In2Se3 were prepared by thermal evaporation. X-ray diffraction indicated that the as-grown films were amorphous in nature and became polycrystalline γ-In2Se3 films after annealing. The ac conductivity and dielectric properties of In2Se3 films have been investigated in the frequency range 100 Hz–100 kHz. The ac conductivity σ ac is found to be proportional to ωn where n < 1. The temperature dependence of both ac conductivity and the parameter n is reasonably well interpreted by the correlated barrier hopping (CBH) model. The values of dielectric constant ε and loss tangent tan δ were found to increase with frequency and temperature. The ac conductivity of the films was found to be hopping mechanism. In I–V characteristic for different field and temperature were studied and it has been found that the conduction process is Poole–Frenkel type.

In this work, lead-free Ba0.4Sr0.4Ca0.2Zr0.05Ti0.95O3 ceramics were prepared by the seed induced method using (0.5Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3–0.5BaZr0.05Ti0.95O3) (BST-BZT) seed. Seed crystals with concentrations of 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10 mol% were mixed with BSCZT powder for 24 h and sintered at 1400 °C for 4 h. The phase formation and microstructure of BSCZT ceramic were characterized by X-ray diffraction technique (XRD) and the scanning electron microscopy (SEM). All samples showed a single phase perovskite structure without impurities and exhibited the existence of the tetragonal phase. The density values of the ceramics decreased from 4.90 to 4.75 g/cm3 with increasing seed crystal concentrations. The grain size of the sample without seed was 3.71 μm, whereas a grain size of 8.99 μm was observed for the sample with 10 mol% seed crystal. The dielectric constant at room temperature at 1 kHz was 1831 for the sample with 10 mol% seed crystal while the dielectric constant of the sample without seed was 1484. From the results in this work, BST-BZT seed can increase grain size and improve the dielectric constant at room temperature.

Abstract In this study, the production of a technical porcelain, for the ceramic dielectric applications by using economical natural raw materials, was investigated. The basic porcelain composition was selected consisting of 30 wt% kaolin, 45 wt% potash-feldspar and 25 wt% quartz. The obtained phases in the sintered samples were investigated by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis, and scanning electron microscopy images. It has been confirmed by these techniques that the main crystalline phases were quartz and mullite. Dielectric measurements of technical porcelains have been carried out at 1 kHz from room temperature to 200 °C. The dielectric constant, loss factor, dielectric loss tangent, and resistivity of the porcelain sample sintered at 1160 °C were 22-25, 0.32-1.80, 0.006-0.07, and 0.2-9 x 1013 Ω.cm, respectively. The value of dielectric constant was significantly high when compared to that of conventional porcelains which did not exceed generally 9.
