The development of an IT strategy and ensuring that it is the best possible one for business is a key problem many organizations face. This problem is that of linking business architecture to IT architecture in general and application architecture specifically. Without this linkage it is difficult to manage the changes needed by the business and maximize the benefits from the information technology (IT) investments. Linking the two domains requires defining the two architectures using a “common language.” While the application architecture domain has developed tools and processes to define and represent the architecture, the business architecture domain, however, lacks such processes and tools to be useful for linking of the two. The chapter addresses several questions dealing with the linking of the business and the application architectures. The author proposes to use category theory related constructs and notions to represent the business and information architecture and the linkages.

This chapter investigates the aspects involved in ERP systems management to understand how such artifacts transform the role of Information Technology (IT) areas within the organizations. ERP systems are currently the main component of the information architecture of most large and medium sized companies and the management of these systems has become a critical part of IT teams’ every day. Initially is proposed a management model for ERP systems based upon a survey of the literature. Next is presented, based upon the model, the analysis of two ERP systems management cases of large sized Brazilian companies. At the end the cases are compared and important observed differences set up the conclusions of this chapter.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify criteria according to which e-dictionaries can be evaluated. Information technology can be used to enhance e-dictionaries, but if not done carefully, information tools that completely overwhelm a user with irrelevant information can be developed. Criteria are necessary according to which e-dictionaries can be developed and evaluated to ensure tools that only provide relevant information on demand. Design/methodology/approach A literature review was conducted to identify trends in lexicography and modern information technology. Previous usability studies were considered to identify key usability issues. The information was synthesised to identify a set of criteria. Findings It was found the e-dictionaries should be evaluated according to their content, information architecture, navigation, access (searching and browsing), help, customisation and use of other innovative technologies. Originality/value A comprehensive set of criteria has been identified that can be used to evaluate e-dictionaries and to guide lexicographers in the development of e-dictionaries.

Due to the fast progressing of the Information Technology, the issues of the information security became more important for the industry recently. The Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) provides a framework of best practices for managing of the information technology (IT) services. In the framework of this study it is clear that it does not have space in your body for information architecture. One of the goals information architecture to organize information for decision making, how can this be out of context? The proposed positioning of this paper presents evidence that the perception that the concepts of information architecture are present on the needs of IT service management. This proposal will encourage the union of bodies of knowledge thereby facilitating the creation of strategy and design services.

The Impact

Intelligence involves knowing information about some competitive factors like competitors' profitability and turnover rate. Information technology can help organizations to seize the information available. In this chapter we will present the solution architected and developed for a Portuguese company with a starting scenario that showed characteristics like dispersed information, concentration of knowledge in a single individual, no defined architecture for data or information, simple changes involving huge efforts and lack of agility. We found that business decision makers had problems of relying on the results, as the system was like a black box and often provided not accurate data. We will describe how we solved the problem, designing and implementing a business intelligence solution and the impact of having an information architecture.

Abstract. Batik is one of Indonesian cultural works that is of high financial value, and admired by many nations in the worlds. Moreover, Indonesian Batik has been recognized by UNESCO as a non object cultural heritage in 2009. This encourages all Indonesians, not only those related to batik industries, to preserve batik. Therefore, information technology based media is needed to spread the philosophical values of batik to the community and to improve the economy for batik industries. The prototype development of mobile web and location based services of batik e - directory aims to build an information technology-based media of the philosophical values of batik to public and to improve the economy. The process includes the development of system requirements and prototype design. Requirement analysis is performed by collating appropriate information architecture to present information of e-directory and batik centers, as well as making requirement specification. The results of requirement analysis will be used as the basis to design a website prototype that can provide information about the e-directory batik and batik centers.Keywords: prototype, e-directory, batik, mobile, web, location-based service Abstrak.Batik merupakan salah satu hasil karya budaya bangsa Indonesia yang memiliki nilai ekonomis tinggi, serta dikagumi oleh berbagai bangsa di dunia.Batik Indonesia bahkan telah diakui UNESCO sebagai warisan budaya bukan benda pada tahun 2009.Hal ini membuat batik wajib dilestarikan dan dikenal, bukan hanya oleh pelaku industri batik, tetapi juga seluruh bangsa Indonesia.Oleh karena itu dibutuhkan media berbasis teknologi informasi sebagai sarana untuk menginformasikan nilai-nilai filosofi dari batik kepada masyarakat dan sarana untuk meningkatkan perekonomian bagi pelaku industri batik.Pengembangan prototype e-directory batik berbasis mobile web dan location based-service bertujuan untuk membangun sebuah media berbasis teknologi informasi sebagai sarana untuk menginformasikan nilai-nilai filosofi dari batik kepada masyarakat dan sarana untuk meningkatkan perekonomian bagi pelaku industri batik. Proses pengembangan meliputi analisis kebutuhan sistem dan perancangan prototype. Analisis kebutuhan dilakukan dengan menyusun arsitektur informasi yang tepat untuk menyajikan informasi e-directory dan sentra batik, serta pembuatan spesifikasi kebutuhan sistem.Hasil analisis kebutuhan sistem akan dijadikan sebagai dasar bagi perancangan prototype website yang dapat menyajikan informasi tentang e-directory batik dan sentra batik.Kata kunci: prototype, e-directory, batik, mobile, web, location-based service
