The present investigation was conducted to find the correlation and path-coefficient analysis for yield and yield contributing characters in Ramnad Mundu chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) during Kharif 2018-19. The experiment was conducted on Forty-seven Mundu chilli genotypes for 15 characters, which was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with two replications. From correlation study dry fruit yield per plant showed highly positive correlation with number of fruits per plant (0.971 G, 0.894 P), ripened fruit yield per plant (0.991 G, 0.949 P), number of seeds per fruits (0.383 G, 0.32 P), 1000 seed weight (0.369 G, 0.332 P), capsaicin % (0.302 G, 0.256 P) and number of primary branches per plant (0.267 G, 0.251 P) at both genotypic and phenotypic level. Path-coefficient analysis of different characters contributing towards the highest positive direct effect via number of fruits per plant (0.973), ripened fruit yield per plant (0.991), no. of seeds per fruit (0.383), 1000 seed weight (0.364), capsaicin % (0.302) and number of primary branches per plant (0.267). Hence, direct selection based on these characters would be effective in crop improvement through plant breeding in Mundu chilli.

The success of any selection process is greatly enhanced by using appropriate selection indices. The knowledge of the relationship among various traits affecting grain yield is imperative to arrive at potentially effective selection index. The study was carried out to unveil the different attributes of genetic variability, the type of interrelationships among the various traits affecting yield. Fifteen local and improved maize inbred lines were crossed to three tester varieties to develop 45 test cross progenies. The parents and crosses (63 entries in all) were evaluated in two different locations with three replications at each location using the Randomized complete block design (RCBD). Data generated was recorded for the quantitative traits evaluated and subjected to statistical analysis for estimation of various variability parameters namely GCV, PCV, heritability and genetic advance alongside computing genotypic correlation coefficients and path coefficient analysis to unveil the direct and indirect effects of the various traits studied. The analysis of variability parameters evaluated revealed the presence of significant variability for all the traits studied. Grain yield, ear length, ear height, 100-seed weight and ear diameter showed high GCV estimates, with high heritability. The genetic advance was higher for plant height, ear length, grain/row and grain yield. The genotypic correlation coefficient revealed that ear diameter, 100 seed weight, ear length, kernel rows/ear and grains/row had highest significant correlation with grain yield. The path coefficient analysis revealed that highest direct effect on grain yield was exhibited by 100 seed weight followed by grains/row, kernel rows/ear, ear length and ear diameter. Most of the traits exerted their positive indirect effects through 100 – seed weight, kernel rows/ear and grains/row. The inferences of the results of the present study and their possible implications in maize breeding have been revealed.

A study was undertaken to analyses the heritability, correlation and path co-efficient for growth and fruit characteristics in fifty seven okra(Abelmoschus esculentus Lam) genotypes grown at Plant Genetic Resources Centre, Regional Agricultural Research Station, BangladeshAgricultural Research Institute during kharif season of 2013. The highest range of variation was recorded in average fruit weight (18.25-25.41g), followed by yield per plant (98.90 – 1650.00g). The highest GCV (46.70 %) and PCV (47.72 %) were recorded for fruit yield perplant while both were lowest for days to maturity (8.07 % and 8.25 %). High heritability coupled with high or moderate degree of geneticadvance was estimated in plant height (99.82 % and 205.06), number of fruits per plant (99.53% and 203.63%), number of leaves per plant(99.57% and 204.49%), number of seeds per fruit (99.73% and 205.44%), leaf length (98.22% and 198.52%), leaf diameter (98.91% and203.76%), 100-seed weight (98.12% and 202.13%) and yield per plant (95.76 % and 197.26%). The highest positive correlation were observedbetween number of fruits per plant and yield per plant (r = 0.99**) and between number of fruits per plant and 100-seed weight (r = 0.44**).Also results showed that significantly positive correlation were between 100-seed weight and yield per plant (r = 0.44**), 100-seed weight andleaf length (r =0.42**), 100-seed weight and leaf diameter (0.38**), number of leaves per plant and 100-seed weight (r = 0.28*), 100-seedweight and plant height(r =0.40**), 100-seed weight and fruit length (r =0.28*). Significantly positive correlations were also observed for plantheight and number of fruits per plant, number of leaves per plant and yield per plant. The path coefficient analysis was done to determine directand indirect effects of traits on fruit yield. The fruit yield and quality of hot pepper, Capsicum annuum L., is very low in Ethiopia mainly due to the lack of improved cultivars. The objective of this study was to evaluate the combining ability for yield and yield contributing characters in order to apply an appropriate breeding methodology for the improvement of yield and the contributing characters. Seven diverse cultivars, two local cultivars and five introduced promising inbred lines, were crossed in a half-diallel. The parents and F1s were grown at Melkasa Agricultural Research Center in 1999 and 2000. The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications of ten plants per row. The green fruit yield and eight yield contributing characters were recorded from eight plants in each replication. The analysis of variance and estimates of GCA and SCA were significant for most of the characters studied. Significant GCA and SCA values were recorded for most of the characters, revealing that both additive and non-additive gene effects were involved in genetic control. A lower average degree of dominance was also recorded for some of the characters. Although none of the parents was a good general combiner for all the traits, some parents showed high GCA effects for some of the economic traits, suggesting that these parental lines could be considered simultaneously while formulating a breeding programme for improving fruit yield and yield contributing characters. The majority of the crosses also depicted significant SCA effects in the desirable directions.

Background: Grain yield is a complex character so direct selection for yield as such can be misleading. Keeping in view, the present study aimed to assess the path coefficient analysis with correlation coefficient technique to establish the direct and indirect relationship between the yield and its component. Methods: The present investigation carried out during kharif 2019 at Centurion University of Technology and Management, Odisha in randomized complete block design with 3 replication involving 20 maize genotypes. Data were collected from five randomly selected plnts on 20 agromorphic and biochemical traits. All the biochemical analysis estimated from leaf sample following standard procedure. Result: The traits shelled grain weight, cob diameter, number of grains per cob and anthesis silking interval were found to possess significant association in disirable direction with five ear weight at both genotypic and phenotypic levels. None of the biochemical trairts establishing significant positive association with yield. Highest positive direct effect on 5 ear weight was noticed by shelled grain weight (1.108) followed by phenols (0.115), internodal length (0.106) and days to 50 percent anthesis (0.102) indicating that the selection for these characters were likely to bring about an overall improvement in grain yield directly.

Genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance for fifteen yield contributing traits were studied in F2 population obtained from the cross of Arka Vikas × EC 519809. The study indicated that existence of considerable amount of genetic variability for all the characters studied. The characters viz., fruit yield per plant, number of fruits per plant, number of primary branches, total phenol and pericarp thickness exhibited higher values of genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of variation. Whereas, fruit yield per plant, individual fruit weight, pericarp thickness and number of primary branches per plant exhibited high estimates of heritability and genetic advance for yield per plant and average fruit weight. These characters can be effectively improved through selection. Correlation indicated that yield was significantly and positively associated with plant height, number of flowers per cluster, percent fruit set, fruit length, fruit diameter, individual fruit weight and number of fruits per plant. Number of fruits per cluster and number of fruits per plant showed the highest positive direct effect on fruit yield per plant. Direct selection may be executed considering these traits as the main selection criteria to reduce indirect effect of other characters during development of high yielding tomato variety.

Background: Groundnut is an important oilseed crop in the India. The groundnut kernels serve as a rich source of edible oil (48-50%) and quality protein (25-28%). In crop improvement programme, availability of sufficient genetic variability is of immense importance. The knowledge of nature and magnitude of genetic variance controlling yield and yield components is a prerequisite for improvement of yield in any crop. Methods: The present investigation was undertaken to assess the genetic variability and character associations for pod yield and component characters in 45 genotypes of groundnut. The genotypes were raised in randomized complete block design with three replications during kharif 2019 at SKNAU, Jobner (Rajasthan). Result: The analysis of variance revealed significant differences among the genotypes for all the characters studied indicating presence of wide genetic variation for different characters. In the present investigation, high genetic advance coupled with high heritability and GCV was observed for biological yield per plant, 100-kernel weight, kernel yield per plant, dry pod yield per plant and pods per plant which indicated prevalence of additive gene action in their expression and these traits possessed high selective value. Kernel yield per plant, pods per plant and biological yield per plant exhibited significantly positive correlation with dry pod yield per plant both at genotypic and phenotypic levels, while shelling percentage at genotypic level only. Three characters viz., kernel yield per plant, pods per plant and biological yield per plant could be considered as direct selection parameters for yield improvement in groundnut because they exerted positive direct effect on dry pod yield per plant.

The present experiment was conducted during November 2014–March 2015. The experiment was done to estimate the variability and character association of different qualitative characters on seed yield of 29 field pea genotypes in a randomised complete block design (RCBD). The analysis of variance revealed that the sufficient variability was present in the material studied for almost all the qualitative characters. Among the different quality parameters the moderate genotypic coefficient of variation was for swelling index. Among the quality parameter, high heritability coupled with high genetic advance was not recorded for any quality character indicating non-significant additive genetic variance in genetic control of these traits. The correlation analysis revealed that seed yield plant-1 exhibited a significant positive association with protein at genotypic level. Path coefficient analysis for seed yield and its components showed that protein content had the negligible positive direct effect on seed yield. Direct selection for quality characters would likely not be effective in increasing or decreasing seed yield in field pea.

The present study was carried out to estimate heritability, genetic variability, correlation and genetic advance among F5 populations of ten genotypes in Brassica species. This study was executed following randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications during November 2017 to February 2018 at the experimental field of College of Agricultural Sciences, International University of Business Agriculture and Technology, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Aim of the research was to evaluate and select the best segregating genotypes for the yield and yield contributing traits towards variety development programs. Analysis of variance revealed that the genotypes were significantly different for all the characters studied. The relative phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) was higher than the genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) for all the traits studied. The high GCV value was observed for the days to 50% flowering (FF), plant height (PH), primary branches per plant (PBP), pod per plant (PP) and seed yield per plant (SYP) that indicated a high broad-sense heritability. A significant positive correlation with seed yield per plant was found in days to 50% flowering (0.578**), the plant height, (0.787**), pod length (PL) (0.406*), seeds per plant (SP) (0.369*), pod per plant (0.697**) and hundred seeds weight (HSW) (0.500**), but significantly negative correlation found in primary branches per plant (-0.046*). The results of path coefficient analysis revealed that days to 50% flowering (0.287), plant height (0.407), pod length  (0.919), seeds per plant (0.033), pod per plant (0.035) and hundred seeds weight (0.795) had a positive direct impact on seed yield per plant and thus it was indicated that these traits could be exploited for the enhancement of yield performance of Brassica species. This study showed that based on the agronomic performance execution, genotypes G2, G5, G6 and G8 might be proposed for future hybridization programs in Bangladesh followed by variety development activities.
