The aim of this study is to introduce the topic of the Personal and Social Development as part of the educational programs in Slovakia and in the Czech Republic. We studied this theme as a part of an extracurricular education. In comparison to foreign education programs, the Slovak and Czech education programs include fewer topics.In our research, we focused on how pupils in Slovakia in their hobby groups perceived the selected topics of the cross-sectional theme of Personal and Social Development, how the topics were understood and how this theme was reflected in their behavior.

AbstractObjectiveThe prevalence of child overweight in the Czech Republic is substantially lower than that in the USA. The objective of the present pilot study was to explore dietary intakes, frequency of dining in fast-food establishments, and the amount and intensity of physical activity between a sample of American and Czech children.DesignA cross-sectional correlational pilot study.SettingFour public schools in the USA and four public schools in the Czech Republic.SubjectsNinety-five Czech and forty-four American 4–6th graders from urban public schools participated in the study. Dietary intake and number of fast-food visits were evaluated using two multiple-pass 24 h recalls. Physical activity was measured using the modified Self-Administered Physical Activity Checklist.ResultsAmerican children (mean age 10·8 (se 0·2) years) consumed more energy and fat, less fruits and vegetables, more soft drinks, and visited fast-food establishments more often than Czech children (mean age 11·0 (se 0·1) years). Although no differences were found in vigorous activity by nationality, Czech children spent significantly more time in moderate physical activities than American children.ConclusionsDespite the influx of some negative Western dietary trends into the country, Czech children had a healthier diet and were more physically active than American children. Further research is warranted to determine whether the same differences in dietary intakes, physical activity and fast-food visits exist between nationally representative samples of American and Czech children.

This chapter provides an overview of the legal framework of set-off in the Czech Republic both outside and within the context of insolvency. In the Czech Republic, set-off rights are regulated exclusively by statutory law. General regulations on set-off arrangements are laid down in Sections 1982–1991 of the Czech Civil Code. Other laws relevant to set-off are the Business Corporations Act, the Capital Markets Act, the Financial Collateral Act, and the Act on Insolvency. The chapter first examines set-off between solvent parties, taking into account general regulations, specific regulations under the Business Corporations Act, contractual set-off involving multiple parties, and special regulatory regimes governing set-off in the Czech Republic. It then considers set-off between insolvent parties before concluding with an analysis of set-off issues arising in the cross-border context.

This contribution defines the conflicts that international migration brings in connection with the increased number of applicants for recognition of foreign education in the Czech republic. The migration of people has been increasingly observed since the so-called Arab Spring 2011 until now. Globalization or connecting the whole world is a current trend that people are learning to accept. Each country receiving migrants determines its own strategy, rules, and approach to migration. „It is estimated that today about 150 million people live outside their homeland“ (Siskova, 2001: 18). With the increased migration and globalization, there has been an increased number of applicants in the Czech Republic for the recognition of education, serving mainly for further higher education. At the same time, for gaining job opportunities, for using foreign experience and, last but not least, for finding better living conditions. „The main determinants of human movements can be considered differences in the wealth of individual economies, living standards and stability in given societies“ (Siskova, 2001: 19). The aim of the contribution is to get acquainted with the basic concepts of migration and migration policy in connection with the recognition of education in the Czech Republic from foreign countries and whether increased migration of persons related to the recognition of foreign education and the acquisition of further education of foreigners in the Czech Republic.
