ABSTRACT Objectives: to know the professional trajectory of the black nurse Maria Barbosa Fernandes and to analyze elements of her professional practice based on the cultural competence model of CampinhaBacote. Methods: historical-social study with an analysis of the findings in light of the Cultural Competence model. Results: Maria Barbosa was the first black woman to earn a nursing degree at the Escola de Enfermagem Carlos Chagas (Carlos Chagas Nursing School) (1935-1938), and the documentation about her history allowed us to infer the experience of discrimination and invisibility. However, her professional trajectory was marked by careful attention to the singularities and the sociocultural reality of individuals, with an emphasis on acting in vulnerable scenarios. Final Considerations: the pairing of the theme of black women in nursing with the reference of Cultural Competence consists of an invitation to value diversity in the profession and seek to move towards care committed to overcoming inequalities, through inclusive practices and culturally sensitive care.

ABSTRACTObjectives: to examine the circumstances in which Gustavo Köhler Riedel was the director of the Vocational School for Nurses Alfredo Pinto and discuss the symbolism of his legacy to nursing school in question and to the field of psychiatric medicine. Methodology: a type of circumstantial biographical documentary written sources coming from the Annals of the Colony of Psychopaths Engine Inside, institutional reports and newspaper articles, and a photographic document. The documents were collected through a survey instrument. The analysis of documents was carried out by the historical context of social and political, through the set of objective relations. Results: pointed to explanations of how the biography walked into work and academic assistance to innovating in the field of psychiatry and thus contributed in the field of nursing education to create the School of Professional Nurses Alfredo Pinto. Conclusion: the study allowed to reveal the symbolic value of the legacy of the biography.  Descriptors: nursing; nursing history; biography; speech;  symbolism; technical report. RESUMOObjetivos: analisar as circunstâncias em que Gustavo Köhler Riedel foi o diretor da Escola Profissional de Enfermeiras Alfredo Pinto e discutir o simbólico de seu legado para a escola de enfermagem em apreço e para o campo da medicina psiquiátrica. Metodologia: estudo do tipo biográfico circunstancial com fontes documentais escritas oriundas dos Anais da Colônia de Psicopatas de Engenho de Dentro, relatórios institucionais e textos jornalísticos, e um documento fotográfico. Os documentos foram coletados por meio de um instrumento de pesquisa. A análise dos documentos foi realizada por meio do contexto histórico social e político, por meio do conjunto de relações objetivas. Resultados: apontaram para explicações de como o biografado trilhou na vida profissional e acadêmica, inovando a assistência no campo da psiquiatria e dessa forma contribuiu no campo do ensino da enfermagem ao criar a Escola Profissional de Enfermeiras Alfredo Pinto. Conclusão: o estudo possibilitou desvelar o valor simbólico do legado do biografado. Metodologia: un tipo de documental biográfico circunstanciales fuentes escritas procedentes de los Anales de la Colonia de motor dentro de los psicópatas, los informes institucionales y artículos de prensa, y un documento fotográfico. Los documentos fueron recopilados a través de un instrumento de la encuesta. El análisis de los documentos que se llevó a cabo por el contexto histórico social y político, a través del conjunto de relaciones objetivas. Resultados: se refirió a las explicaciones de cómo entró en la biografía de trabajo y asistencia académica para innovar en el campo de la psiquiatría, contribuyendo con ello en el ámbito de la educación en enfermería para crear la Escuela de Enfermeras Profesionales Alfredo Pinto. Introduction: This article describes the development process of Transgender Standardized Patient Simulation (TSPS) as an innovative cultural competence education and its pilot testing as part of the students’ program of study. The multidimensional education strategy, TSPS, aimed to improve students’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and confidence in providing culturally sensitive care to a transgender patient experiencing an oncological emergency. Methodology: The design of the TSPS followed the cultural competence and confidence model and international simulation guidelines. Content validity of the TSPS was established. As our usual simulation assessment survey, the adapted simulation effectiveness tool–modified was used to evaluate if the TSPS met with students’ learning need. Results: Participants ( n = 32) strongly agreed that the TSPS met with their learning expectations and needs and improved their ability to provide culturally sensitive care. Discussion: Training and practice in this area is much needed and well-received by nursing students and faculty.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate Anatolian Alevi People Living In Istanbul With Cultural “Purnell' Cultural Competence Model”. Sample of this qualitative conducted study includes total 30 Alevi people aging between 19 and 56, registered at Ümraniye Ihlamurkuyu djemevi. Snowball sampling method was used to select sample. The research data were collected in the form of a semi-structured interview form, written recordings and voice recordings, which included the topics included in Purnell's cultural competence model to assess cultural features.Focus group interviews were conducted between January and March 2017. Data were collected by using voice and written records. Collected data were analyzed by using descriptive analysis and semiotics methods. It is reported that early marriage, marriage with relatives and early pregnancy are common, and alcohol and smoking are rare in Alevi population. In addition, it was also reported that there are some negative perceiving such as double standard in society, low health service opportunity, and religious discrimination. Results found in the research showed that there are not significant differences between Anatolian Alevi and Turkish population on social demographic and social structures. In order to decrease this perceiving, more social and cultural combining programs may be conducted.Extended English summary is in the end of Full Text PDF (TURKISH) file.ÖzetBu araştırmanın amacı, İstanbul’da Yaşayan Anadolu Alevilerinin Purnell’in Kültürel Yeterlilik Modeline bağlı olarak değerlendirmektir. Niteliksel türde desenlenen araştırmanın evrenini, Ümraniye Ihlamurkuyu cem evine kayıtlı olan Türk kökenli 19-56 yaş arası toplam 30 alevi oluşturdu. Örneklem seçiminde kartopu örnekleme yöntemi kullanıldı. Araştırma verileri, kültürel özellikleri değerlendirmek için Purnell’in kültürel yeterlilik modelinde yer alan temaları içeren yarı-yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ile yazılı kayıt ve ses kaydı şeklinde toplandı. Odak grup görüşmeleri Ocak-Mart 2017 tarihleri arasında gerçekleştirildi. Elde edilen veriler betimsel analiz ve gösterge bilimsel analiz yöntemleri ile değerlendirildi. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre Alevilerde erken yaşta evlilik, akraba evliliği ve erken gebe kalmanın yaygın olduğu, alkol ve sigara kullanımının az olduğu ifade edildi. Araştırmada elde edilen bulgular, Türk Alevilerinin aslında sosyo demografik ve sosyal yapılarının Türk toplumunun genel yapısından farklı olmadığını, temelde inanç farklılığı üzerinden, Türk toplumunda var olan olumsuzlukların buna yorulduğu görüldü. Bu algının azaltılması için, daha fazla sosyal ve kültürel kaynaşma programlarına yer verilebilir.
