Abstract This article studies the operation of the Federal Regional Court of the 4th Region (TRF4) in the fight against corruption crimes. Judgments produced by the TRF4 criminal courts between 2003 and 2016 underwent text analysis using the dictionary method, seeking to outline the profile of crimes and defendants. Despite the changes in the web accountability institutions, with the outbreak of major federal police operations, technological uses, new legal devices and a high degree of concentration between the agencies, there is a small proportion of grand corruption crime, involving middle and high-ranking bureaucrats and more sophisticated crimes with greater financial value. Crimes involving contraband and petty corruption take up much of the day to day of the judiciary in the south region of the country, at least in the criminal intermediate courts, where the judge appeals decisions coming from specialized and generalist criminal courts.

The shape, surface features, composition, and thickness of icebergs trapped annually in a 200 km long coastal strip of fast ice have been examined to determine their sources and movement. The thin western ice front of the Ross Ice Shelf seems to produce about 40% of the icebergs while local glaciers produce the remainder. The ice-shelf icebergs are carried west towards Ross Island then north up the western side of the Ross Sea. A small proportion of them gets trapped mainly by grounding on shallow areas of the sea floor which protrude across the regional long-shore currents.

Swamp forests are associated with hydromorphic soils and are naturally fragmented in their distribution. Several local phytosociological surveys on the woody flora of these forests have been conducted in southeastern and southern Brazil. We present here a comprehensive floristic list based on these surveys, including 77 families, 211 genera and 518 native species. The richest families were Myrtaceae (78 species), Fabaceae (47) and Lauraceae (38). The richest genera were Eugenia (24), Myrcia (24), Miconia (21) and Ocotea (20). The woody flora of these swamp forests has great heterogeneity, with most species occurring in one or few sites. Their flora is formed by a few flooding specialist or tolerant species, common in many sites, and many other species that come from the surrounding vegetation. Considering the high degree of deforestation in southeastern and southern Brazil, including swamp forests, the floristic patterns presented here can be useful for the future efforts of conservation, management and restoration of these forests.

Accountability for crimes, a theme central to Shakespeare’s plays, is also extraordinarily pertinent to our times. Newspapers have reported on the care taken by the leaders of the former Yugoslavia to order atrocities against “enemy” populations only in the most indirect and euphemistic way. Even the Nazi leaders constantly resorted to euphemisms in referring to the Holocaust. No explicit written order from Hitler to carry out the final solution has ever been found. At the height of their power, the Nazis treated the data on the killing of Jews as top secret. Similarly, a high-ranking member of the former security police told the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission that written instructions to kill antiapartheid activists were never given; squad members who carried out the killings simply got “a nod of the head or a wink-wink kind of attitude.”

This chapter introduces an approach to the development of intelligent Semantic Web services, which are envisioned as system cells that actively discover, learn, and communicate knowledge on the Web. The development of these systems often involves not only standardized Web technology, but also the integration of heterogeneous information. The approach in this chapter adopts the Semantic Web services specifications that are given by the DARPA agent markup language (DAML) program, utilizes a system behavior model to represent an intelligent agent, and proposes a high degree of automatic synthesis using code generation and program templates. The author reviews the various techniques that are available to aid the development process, and provides an example to illustrate the stages of software synthesis in the development of such systems.

Biometric relationships of size and weight were estimated for the Argentinean prawn (Artemesia longinaris), a new commercial penaeid prawn exploited in the south-western Atlantic. Morphometric and meristic traits were used to elucidate population structure of this species along its distribution area. The morphological relationships were estimated by a simple linear regression, considering total length (TL) as the dependent variable. The males collected in southern Brazil, an area under influence of the Subtropical Convergence, presented a slightly lower TL increment than females. A marked reduction in slopes of males between populations from southern Brazil was observed in autumn and winter. Additionally, relative growth in length of males from Argentina is similar to that observed during autumn and winter in southern Brazil. The other morphometric and meristic variables used also indicated higher similarities between southern Brazil and Argentina, which may be explained by relative growth associated to water temperatures or migration during winter, taking advantage of the oceanographic systems connecting both sites. Moreover, the population from Rio de Janeiro seems morphologically apart from the others, forming a separate unit stock.

The Internet has become a major dissemination and sharing platform for 3D content. The utilization of 3D measurement methods can drastically increase the production efficiency of 3D content in an increasing number of use cases where 3D documentation of real-life objects or environments is required. We demonstrated a developed, highly automated and integrated content creation process of providing reality-based photorealistic 3D models for the web. Close-range photogrammetry, terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) and their combination are compared using available state-of-the-art tools in a real-life project setting with real-life limitations. Integrating photogrammetry and TLS is a good compromise for both geometric and texture quality. Compared to approaches using only photogrammetry or TLS, it is slower and more resource-heavy but combines complementary advantages of each method, such as direct scale determination from TLS or superior image quality typically used in photogrammetry. The integration is not only beneficial, but clearly productionally possible using available state-of-the-art tools that have become increasingly available also for non-expert users. Despite the high degree of automation, some manual editing steps are still required in practice to achieve satisfactory results in terms of adequate visual quality. This is mainly due to the current limitations of WebGL technology.

Coreoleuciscus splendidus was first reported as a monotypic species. Recent morphological and genetic studies have revealed that the species is represented by two disjunct and distinct lineages. The two lineages of C. splendidus include populations inhabiting the Han and Geum rivers in the East Korea Subdistrict and populations inhabiting the Seomjin and Nakdong rivers in the South Korea Subdistrict. In this study, significant differences were found between these two independent lineages through a high degree of genetic divergence in the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene as well as conspicuous morphological differences in body coloration and shapes of black stripes on dorsal, anal and caudal fin rays. These morphological and genetic differences provide supporting evidence that the populations in the South Korea Subdistrict represent a new species, Coreoleuciscus aeruginos.

Recently, the web has been crowded with growing volumes of various texts on every aspect of human life. It is difficult to rapidly access, analyze, and compose important decisions using efficient methods for raw textual data in the form of social media, blogs, feedback, reviews, etc., which receive textual inputs directly. It proposes an efficient method for summarization of various reviews of tourists on a specific tourist spot towards analyzing their sentiments towards the place. A classification technique automatically arranges documents into predefined categories and a summarization algorithm produces the exact condensed input such that output is most significant concepts of source documents. Finally, sentiment analysis is done in summarized opinion using NLP and text analysis techniques to show overall sentiment about the spot. Therefore, interested tourists can plan to visit the place do not go through all the reviews, rather they go through summarized documents with the overall sentiment about target place.
