ABSTRACT Objective: to carry out the cross-cultural validation of the instrument “Child Adolescent Teasing Scale” for the Colombian student population. Method: methodological study carried out with students aged 8 to 15, from public and private educational institutions in the municipality of Ibagué, Colombia. The form for the characterization of students and the Child Adolescent Teasing Scale were used. Results: the cross-cultural adaptation process was organized in seven steps: comparison of the Spanish version of the instrument with the original English version, back-translation, consensus version, face validity and terminology adjustment by students, face and content validity by experts, assessment committee for the final version, pilot test and reliability. Conclusion: the version adapted to the Spanish spoken in Colombia of the Child Adolescent Teasing Scale (Escala de burlas para niños y adolescentes), which assesses the frequency and distress caused by teasing, showed desirable results in terms of validity and reliability.

Objectives: Translate the Convexity Assessment Guide into the Portuguese language and perform its semantic, linguistic, conceptual and cultural validation. Methods: Translation study, qualitative descriptive, following the recommended phases: translation, back translation, comparison of original and translated versions back to Portuguese, validation by national experts committee. Results: It was obtained 400 evaluations – 49 annulled and 351 valid – which represents the total used for the agreement analysis of the items. After the analysis, there were six discordant items, reviewed according to the experts’ suggestions, obtaining, then, a greater agreement of 90% in all items evaluated. Conclusion: There was a high level of agreement among the evaluator’s committee, ensuring the continuity of the study with the cross-cultural validation of the Convexity Guide for the Brazilian reality. This research promoted the translation of an instrument that assists in the clinical indication of collector devices for stomas. The validation of the translation into the Portuguese language was obtained, being this the first phase of the process of cross-cultural validation.

Cultural diversity limits cross cultural understanding of diseases. Stigma has been studied in neurological disorders, chronic pain and migraine, but instruments are not available in Portuguese. We aimed to translate the 8-item Stigma Scale for Chronic Illness to Portuguese. Methods: We followed the 5 steps advised by guidelines for transcultural validation. Results: Translation, backtranslation and cultural validation has been performed following the 5 steps, and a final version of the instrument was achieved. Discussion/Conclusion : Stigma is an important issue in migraine management. Measurement of stigma in headache sufferers in Brazil may be started. The final version of the instrument is provided.

AbstractThe main propose of this study is the cross-cultural validation of the Basic Psychological Needs in Physical Education Scale among Portugal and Brazil samples, through the study of measurement model invariance. Participated in this study, two independent samples, one with 616 Portuguese students, of the 2nd and 3rd basic grade of public school, aged between 9 and 18 years old and another with 450 Brazilian students, from 1st, 2nd and 3rd middle grade of public and private school, aged between 14 and 18 years old. The results support the suitability of the model (three factors, each one with four items), showing an adequate fit to the data in each sample (Portugal: χ2 = 203.8, p = .001, df = 51, SRMR = .062, NNFI = .926, CFI = .943, RMSEA = .070, RMSEA 90% IC = .060–.080; Brazil: χ2 = 173.7, p = .001, df = 51, SRMR = .052, NNFI = .940, CFI = .954, RMSEA = .073, RMSEA 90% IC = .061–.085), as well valid cross-cultural invariance among Portuguese e Brazilian samples (∆CFI ≤ .01). Those findings allow us to conclude that scale can be used to measure the basic psychological needs in physical education in Portugal and in Brazil.

Childhood obesity is a global problem, disproportionately affecting children in low-to-middle income countries (LMIC). Despite this evidence, no previous study has adapted instruments measuring children’s movement behaviors and associated parenting practices for use in LMIC families. This study reports the results of a cross-cultural adaptation of previously validated measures of children’s movement behaviors and parenting practices in economically disadvantaged Brazilian families. Study 1 involved translation of the instruments from English to Portuguese. A team of translators (fluent in both English and Portuguese) and researchers followed established procedures for translating measurement scales, identifying problematic items, and reaching consensus on discrepancies. Study 2 involved cognitive interviews with 24 parents from urban and rural North-eastern Brazil addressing the format, content, and clarity of the items. Half the parents provided feedback on the first 33 items of the questionnaire, with the remaining parents providing feedback on the final 29 items. Notes were recorded during the interview and parents’ feedback summarized in a report. In the translation and back-translation, 15 discrepancies were identified. These were mostly due to multiple Portuguese words having the same meaning in English. The research team discussed these discrepancies and consensus was reached to ensure that the concepts depicted in the Portuguese version were consistent with the English version. In the cognitive interviews, parents identified minor problems with item comprehension resulting in minor adaptations to response options, recall period, and format of the questionnaire. The process of translation and cognitive interviews conducted in Brazilian families resulted in an appropriate cultural adaptation of scales measuring children’s movement behaviors and parenting practices. Future studies should evaluate the validity and reliability of the measures in LMIC families.

Abstract Background: Person-centered nursing is pivotal to the high-quality and safe practice of nursing, and therapeutic communication plays an essential role in this process. Therapeutic communication by healthcare professionals is vital in developing and maintaining constructive relationships with patients. The Global Interprofessional Therapeutic Communication Scale© (GITCS©) measures the therapeutic communication skills of healthcare providers. This scale is useful for assessing the verbal, non-verbal, and culturally sensitive therapeutic communication abilities of healthcare providers in various clinical situations. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the cross-cultural validity and reliability of the Korean version of the Global Interprofessional Therapeutic Communication Scale© (K-GITCS). Methods: A cross-cultural validation of a psychometric evaluation is conducted in the present study. The instrument was translated into Korean using the original developers’ translation process.A convenience sample of 300 registered nurses with more than one year of experience was recruited from a tertiary hospital. Validity was evaluated through a confirmatory factor analysis, and the instrument was tested for psychometric reliability.Results: The three-factor structure of the K-GITCS was validated. A confirmatory factor analysis of the K-GITCS was conducted, and the results satisfied the statistical criteria with a standardized root mean square residual of 0.06, a non-normed fit index of 0.88, a root mean square error of approximation of 0.07, and a comparative fit index of 0.82. The following factors were correlated: trust and rapport building, power-sharing, and empathy. Cronbach’s alpha was 0.94, indicating good internal consistency.Conclusions: Initial testing with experienced registered nurses in one institution indicated that the K-GITCS© instrument has adequate construct validity and reliability to identify therapeutic communication skills in this population. The K-GITCS can be used to assess registered nurses’ therapeutic communication. Further research using the GITCS is required to promote the communication skills of healthcare providers. Studies testing with nursing students and nurses in other institutions and interprofessional healthcare providers are also necessary. This instrument can offer valuable insights to guide its development and to devise tailored interventions considering the specific demands of registered nurses. It can be used in nursing education and clinical settings for evaluations of therapeutic communication skills.

Abstract Background Anxiety is one of the most prevalent mental health disorders among mothers during the postpartum period, which can lead to maternal and infant physical and psychological consequences. The Postpartum Specific Anxiety Scale (PSAS) predicts unique variance in postnatal outcomes over and above general anxiety tools. It has never been used in Iran and its validity and reliability have not been assessed either. Therefore, the present study aimed to translate and investigate the psychometric properties of the PSAS-IR. Methods 510 women, from six weeks to six months postpartum, were selected through random sampling in 2020. After forward and back-translation, the face validity, content validity, and construct validity of PSAS (through confirmatory factor analysis) were examined. The reliability of the scale was assessed using both internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha) and test-retest stability methods. Results CVI and CVR values of the PSAS tool were 0.89 and 0.88, respectively. The good fit indices confirmed the validity of four-factor structure. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient and Intra Correlation Coefficient (ICC) equaled 0.93 and 0.92, respectively. Conclusion The Persian version of PSAS is a valid and reliable four-factor scale, it will improve the measurement of postpartum anxiety in an Iranian setting. This will improve the measurement of postpartum anxiety in an Iranian setting.
