ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the health promotion practices developed by nurses in the care of people with non-transmittable chronic disease in primary health care, in scientific publications, between 2007 and 2017. Method: an integrative literature review of a qualitative approach, conducted in five databases, in which was read and critical analysis of the studies in order to know the practices of health promotion. Results: 40 articles were selected and organized according to the fields of the Ottawa Charter: public policies, reorientation of health services, creation of personal skills, reinforcement of community action and favorable environments. Thus, most of the experiments were mainly related to two fields of action: development of personal skills and reorientation of the health system. There is a movement towards the development of a health promotion in which the collective, the social determinants of health and multidisciplinarity are advocated. Conclusion: some limits were identified that need to be overcome, among which stands out the inter-sectoral work that needs to grow beyond the health sector.

This chapter considers international perspectives in the area of health promotion. It begins with an overview of health promotion as a global enterprise, citing major developments such as the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Alma Ata Declaration, and the introduction of the notion of the social determinants of health by Thomas McKeown. It then examines the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion (1986) and the five health promotion areas that it identified for achieving better health: building healthy public policy, creating supportive environments, strengthening community action, developing personal skills, and reorienting health services. The chapter goes on to discuss other international health promotion initiatives, including the Bangkok Charter for Health Promotion in a Globalized World (2005) and the Helsinki Global Conference on Health Promotion (2013). Finally, it analyses the role of the WHO in health promotion, along with the issues of health inequalities and health inequities.

Abstract Background: It is not always easy to put mental health on the agenda of sectors other than the health sector. However, it is now confirmed that mental health promotion policies need innovations beyond the scope of the health sector to be efficient. Thus, in this study, an attempt was made to identify the most effective stakeholders of the public sector in the field of mental health promotion in Iran to help the policy-makers of said sector and to encourage the inter-sectoral cooperation and further involvement of these effective sectors in mental health promotion plans. Methods: This was a mixed-methods study. From the data of the first step (literature review and a survey involving professors of relevant disciplines), the names of government agencies related to the domain of mental health were extracted. In the second step, a checklist was developed, the horizontal axis of which was the relevant organizations and the vertical axis was the social risk factors effective on mental health promotion. The data of this step were analyzed by the simple additive weighting method. In the final step, a table was plotted in the form of institutional mapping in order to summarize the organizations affecting each risk factor. Results: The Islamic Consultative Assembly, the Ministry of Interior, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor, and Social Welfare, and the Ministry of Education were identified as five organizations with the greatest impacts on the social determinants of mental health promotion in Iran. Conclusions: Significant impacts can be exerted by institutions such as the Islamic Consultative Assembly (as the legislator), the Ministry of Interior and its subsidiary entities such as municipalities and governors (as the administrators of homeland security and support for safe and appropriate urban and local facilities), the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (as the national media), the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor, and Social Welfare (as the institution in charge of employment, job security, and social welfare), and the Ministry of Education (as the educational institution of the country).

Objectives: The aim of this study was to improve understanding of the relationship between music practice and the wellbeing of young refugees, by examining the perspectives of Yazidi music participants aged 11–18. Design: Focused exploratory case study design, informed by the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion which provided the conceptual framework for the research. Setting: A camp in northern Greece, where people from Iraq and Syria had been living for up to a year. Method: Data were collected over a 5-week period through participant observation of individual music lessons and group music workshops involving between 3–12 participants. In addition, semi-structured interviews were conducted with a sub-sample of six participants (three boys and three girls) aged 11–18. Results: Findings indicate that activities involving music practice can impact positively on young people’s wellbeing, enabling the development of emotional expression, improved social relations, self-knowledge and positive self-identification, and a sense of agency. Conclusion: The positive impacts of music practice noted here suggest it has the potential to be a promising health promotion approach for young refugees, by helping to develop supportive environments, through which community action can be strengthened and personal skills developed.

Puskesmas as a health service facility, organized public health effort and individuals in the first level. As a first-rate health facility, puskesmas are responsible for health in their working area. School is one of the institutions that become the responsibility of puskesmas. Health efforts in schools are realized through the development of health promotion. The development of school health promotion is implemented through a health program, UKS. UKS targets are all schools which means not only public schools but also specials schools (SLB) are included. Children with special needs is one of the human resources whose quality must be improved. Such quality improvement can be done through basic behavioral cultivation, including health behavior. PHBS in school is an absolute necessity. This can be said because the various diseases that often attack school-age children associated with PHBS. SLB Alpa Kumara Wardana II is one of the target schools of Puskesmas Pucang Sewu so that the implementation of PHBS from the school is also the responsibility of Puskesmas Pucang Sewu. This study aims to analyze the role of puskesmas in the implementation of PHBS in schools at SLB based on Ottawa Charter. The method used in this research is qualitative with the determination of informants using purposive sampling technique. The results obtained from this research is the role of puskesmas in the implementation of PHBS in schools at SLB Alpa Kumara Wardana II is still less than optimal in the implementation of PHBS in schools. Implementation of PHBS in SLB is still need to improved application from the aspect of build healthy public policy, create supportive environtment, reorient health services, strengthen community action, and develop personal skills.

The social determinants of health are relevant in the main strategies of Primary Health Care. However, it is known the difficulties of the health sector to overcome the factors that negatively interfere with the health of the population. Thus, it was aimed to create a computer model to present in detail the factors that somehow are related to the Primary Health Care, enabling public health managers to make decisions efficiently. Using artificial neural networks, it was possible to create a classifier model that could show which variables are related to the efficiency in Primary Care and which lead to inefficiency. Moreover, it was used the NICeSim simulator as a tool to evaluate the behavior of each variable identified as relevant to the efficiency in Primary Care of cities. The results demonstrate that the created model was superior to previously proposed models. Furthermore, our model has been demonstrated to be very effective in identifying variables that affect Primary Health. The created model shows that factors, such as illiteracy and welfare programs, considerably affect the efficiency of health care, reinforcing the argument that the focus of the public policies should be dealt in an intersectoral way, improving the factors that positively influence the population health.

Theoretical frameworks on health promotion focusing on social determinants of oral health have highlighted promising approaches for improving the oral health of populations and reducing inequities in oral health. In the last two decades the salutogenic theory has gained ground in the field of health promotion, but not in oral health promotion. Instead of focusing on risk factors and behavior change, the theory highlights the importance of resources and the ability to use them. The model's central construct, sense of coherence (SOC), suggests explanations of the relationship between life stressors and health status. The stronger the SOC, the more successfully people will cope with stressors and thus maintain their health. This paper discusses the potential of the salutogenic theory to guide the development of actions in the five fields of oral health promotion: creating supportive environments; promoting health through public policy; strengthening community action; developing personal skills; and reorienting health services. The theory can serve as a framework for oral health promotion measures that strengthen the available resources, create better ones, and enable people to identify and benefit from them.

Pesquisa qualitativa, exploratório-descritiva que objetiva desvelar a atuação dos profissionais da Atenção Primáriaà Saúde acerca dos Determinantes Sociais de Saúde das práticas de promoção da saúde. A coleta de dados foirealizada de julho a outubro de 2015, com entrevistas semiestruturadas. Participaram 25 profissionais queatuavam na rede de Atenção Primária em Saúde do Município de Florianópolis, SC. Os dados foram analisados apartir da análise temática de Minayo e discutidos à luz da Promoção da Saúde e dos Determinantes Sociais. Osresultados indicaram que, tanto a academia quanto os gestores estão investindo na formação para a promoçãoda saúde, porém, ainda muito focada nos estilos de vida e pouco articulada com os Determinantes Sociais deSaúde. Os profissionais relataram atuar muito pouco sobre os dados determinantes e alguns não sabem o conceitode Determinação Social da Saúde. Observa-se que há carência de métodos que auxiliem a avaliação e efetividadeda atuação sobre a promoção da saúde, porém, os profissionais já conseguem visualizar mudanças positivas nasaúde da população. It is observed that there isa lack of methods to aid the evaluation and effectiveness of action on health promotion, however, professionalscan show positive changes in the population’s health. The aim of the study was to describe the Programa Academia da Cidade do Recife (PAC-REC) action plan during the social isolation requirement due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As temporary measures to confront the COVID-19, the City of Recife has published a contingency  plan, which suspended the non-essential services, including the presential operations of PAC-REC. Considering the program's commitment to the Unified Health System and to the Primary Health Care the PAC's board committee developed an action plan, restructuring its potential through the reorganization of remote activities to be offered to their users. The action plan has six stages encompassing planning (first and second), development (third and fourth), monitoring and evaluation (fifth and sixth). Despite the changes in the epidemiological scenario and the format of actions, the PAC-REC is maintaining its Health Promotion actions throughout its territory.

INTRODUCTION: Reconciling the primary care sector’s traditional concern for individual health outcomes with a population health approach is integral to the implementation of New Zealand’s Primary Health Care Strategy, and a key challenge for health promotion in New Zealand. The purpose of this study was to examine the views of health promoters, their funders and managers toward the implementation of the Primary Health Care Strategy’s health promotion agenda. METHODS: Focus groups and interviews were carried out with 64 health promoters and 21 health sector managers and planners and funders over the 12 months beginning March 2008. Interview and focus group transcripts were analysed thematically. FINDINGS: Primary Health Organisations (PHOs) have been perceived as both an opportunity and a threat to health promotion. The opportunity was seen to lie in the development of health promotion responsive to the needs of communities. Yet the numerous PHOs that emerged spread funding and capacity for health promotion thin, particularly amongst smaller PHOs. CONCLUSION: The failure of the Ministry of Health to engage the health promotion workforce in the development and implementation of the Primary Health Care Strategy has led to a clear sense of vulnerability among health promoters. Ideological divisions between primary care and public health have been exacerbated by the restructuring of health promotion funding and delivery. Within non-governmental organisations and public health units concern continues to surround the legitimacy of health promotion approaches undertaken within the primary health care sector.
