This chapter considers international perspectives in the area of health promotion. It begins with an overview of health promotion as a global enterprise, citing major developments such as the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Alma Ata Declaration, and the introduction of the notion of the social determinants of health by Thomas McKeown. It then examines the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion (1986) and the five health promotion areas that it identified for achieving better health: building healthy public policy, creating supportive environments, strengthening community action, developing personal skills, and reorienting health services. The chapter goes on to discuss other international health promotion initiatives, including the Bangkok Charter for Health Promotion in a Globalized World (2005) and the Helsinki Global Conference on Health Promotion (2013). Finally, it analyses the role of the WHO in health promotion, along with the issues of health inequalities and health inequities.

PurposeSchool principals are presumed to be pillars of school health promotion implementation. Their understanding of their role could enhance school health promotion. This study aims to investigate how principals understood their role in school health promotion.Design/methodology/approachIn this study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with six school principals who participated and completed the first cycle of the Continuous Professional Teacher Development programme that was offered by the South African Council of Educators. Snowball sampling was used to sample participants.FindingsThe findings of this study showed that principals did not differentiate between concepts of health-promoting schools and school health promotion, the meaning was the same for them. They focused on any health improvement within the schools, regardless of its conceptual nature. The second finding pertains to the role of the principal as a manager, while the third was on expedition of collaborations and partnerships.Research limitations/implicationsThis research was limited to school principals who completed the Continuous Professional Teacher Development programme. It, therefore, does not include perceptions of other principals.Originality/valueThe study findings suggest that despite inability of schools in poor communities to implement effective school health programmes, the principals of the sampled schools were aware of their roles. This is positive, as the efforts to enhance health promotion initiatives would focus on developing and empowering principals to improve their performance.

So that the management of objects in developing various readiness of tourist attraction products becomes slow and runs not optimally. The visible impact of the management is the economic impact, through increasing family income, social impact, reducing unemployment, opening up road access, making motorcycle taxis easier to use, making it easier for people to do their activities. However, in its implementation, the majority of UKS in schools tend to handle physical complaints rather than provide more holistic services. The purpose of this commmunity-empowerment activity was to increase the role of nurses in the physical and mental health promotion of school children by examining the UKS role in Elementary State School (SDN) 01 Limo. The community-empowerment activity carried out included the provision of material about growing children both physically and mentally, training parents to communicate assertively with the child by responding positively to the child's emotions. Before the activity was implemented, 60 respondents were measured for their ability to handle the material and the assertive communication. By using the Paired T-test, the result of a significant influence on the improvement of knowledge, attitudes and psychomotor with pvalue = 0,000 (P < 0.05) was obtained. The respondents’ knowledge increase by 6.51 points, psychomotor 5.73 points, and attitude 2.46 points.
