The objective of the study was to determine the effect of the soil conditioner UG<sub>max</sub> application on phenol and glycoalkaloid content in the tubers of two table potato cultivars. The following factors were examined: factor I − cultivars: Satina and Tajfun; factor II − five application methods of the soil conditioner UG<sub>max</sub>: (1) control − no UG<sub>max</sub> application; (2) 1.0 L/ha UG<sub>max</sub> before planting; (3) 0.5 L/ha UG<sub>max</sub> before planting + 0.25 L/ha at potato height of 10–15 cm + 0.25 L/ha in flower bud phase; (4) 1.0 L/ha UG<sub>max</sub> before planting + 0.50 L/ha at potato height of 10–15 cm + in 0.50 L/ha in flower bud phase; (5) UG<sub>max</sub> applied after emergence when plants were 10–15 cm high at the rate of 0.5 L/ha, and at the stage of flower buds at the rate of 0.5 L/ha. The highest concentration of phenols and glycoalkaloids was recorded in plots where UG<sub>max</sub> was applied prior to potato planting at the rate of 1.0 L/ha, when plants were 10–15 cm high at the rate of 0.5 L/ha and at the stage of flower buds at the rate of 0.5 L/ha.

<p>Andisol soil contains a lot of heavy metals Al and Fe, which results in P being unavailable to plants and can cause low soil pH, this will inhibit plant growth. One effort that can be made to increase the availability of nutrients in the soil is by utilizing soil enhancing ingredients enriched with biological fertilizers. The research design used was factorial randomized block design (RBD) consisting of: Factor I: (biological fertilizers) M0 = without application, M1 = <em>Talaromyces pinophilus </em>(Hedgecock), M2 = <em>Azotobacter</em> sp, M3 = Mycorrhizae, M4 = <em>Talaromyces pinophilus</em> + mycorrhizae + <em>Azotobacter </em>sp. Factor II Soil enhancing ingredients, namely P0 = Without Soil Improvement, K1 = Zeolite 50 g, K2 = Humic acid 50 ml, K3 = compost / manure fertilizer for agriculture 50 g. From the results the combination of microbial treatment and soil conditioner can increase nitrogen in the soil by 2-40.81 %, cation exchange capacity by 1.7-44.29 % and P available by 1.3-49.36 %. Soil conditioner combined with biological fertilizers can improve soil quality in general, the best treatment is a combination treatment of <em>T.</em> <em>pinophilus</em> + mycorrhizae + <em>Azotobacter </em>sp. with coffee skin (M4P4).</p>

The main aim of the study was evaluation of the content of -solanine, -chaconine and total glycoalkaloids (TGA) in fourteen new potato cultivars with purple and red flesh in comparison with yellow- and white-fleshed control potatoes cultivated in a friendly way in integrated agriculture. The results were obtained from three-year trials on two locations. TGA levels in tubers’ flesh ranged from 33.69 to 167.77 mg/kg fresh matter (FM), and the ratio of α-chaconin to α-solanin from 1.18 to 3.78. No TGA safety limit was exceeded for any cultivar. The glycoalkaloids content was not significantly influenced by flesh colour, whereas the cultivar genotype had a decisive influence on their content. Eight cultivars with coloured flesh yielded a more favourable lower TGA content in comparison with the yellow-fleshed control cv. Agria (86.3 mg/kg FM); on the contrary six cultivars showed higher TGA values. The highest average TGA content was found in the purple-fleshed Bora Valley cultivar (165 mg/kg FM), the lowest was found in the red-fleshed Red Emmalie cultivar (43.6 mg/kg FM), whereas the white-fleshed cv. Russet Burbank reached 67.0 mg/kg FM. The glycoalkaloid content was significantly affected by location and year weather conditions.

Nine-week-old plants of Cyclamen persicum `Miracle Salmon' were transplanted into 10-cm pots and placed in growth chambers at 8, 12, 16, 20, or 24 °C. The irradiance was 10 mol/day per m2 during a 16-h day length. After 8 weeks, the temperature was changed to 16 °C for all plants. Expanded leaves (1 cm or larger) were counted at weekly intervals for each plant. The rate of leaf unfolding increased with temperature to 20 °C. The fastest rate at 20 °C was 0.34 ± 0.05 leaf/day. Flower buds were visible 55 ± 7 days from start of temperature treatments (118 days from seeding) for the plants grown at 12, 16, or 20 °C. Flower buds appeared 60 ± 6.9 days from initiation of treatments for plants grown at 24 °C and 93 ± 8.9 days for cyclamens grown at 8 °C. Although there was no significant difference in rate of flower bud appearance for cyclamens grown at 12, 16, or 20 °C, the number of leaves, flowers, and flower buds varied significantly among all temperature treatments. Leaf number at flowering increased from 38 ± 4.7 for plants at 12 °C to 77 ± 8.3 at 24 °C. Flowers and flower buds increased from 18 ± 2.9 to 52 ± 11.0 as temperature increased from 12 to 24 °C. Plants grown at 8 °C had on average 6 ± 2 visible flower buds, but no open flowers at termination of the study (128 days from start of treatments).

The lotus produces flower buds at each node, yet most of them are aborted because of unfavorable environmental changes and the mechanism remains unclear. In this work, we proposed a potential novel pathway for ABA-mediated flower timing control in the lotus, which was explored by combining molecular, genetic, transcriptomic, biochemical, and pharmacologic approaches. We found that the aborting flower buds experienced extensive programmed cell death (PCD). The hormonal changes between the normal and aborting flower buds were dominated by abscisic acid (ABA). Seedlings treated with increasing concentrations of ABA exhibited a differential alleviating effect on flower bud abortion, with a maximal response at 80 μM. Transcriptome analysis further confirmed the changes of ABA content and the occurrence of PCD, and indicated the importance of PCD-related SNF1-related protein kinase 1 (NnSnRK1). The NnSnRK1-silenced lotus seedlings showed stronger flowering ability, with their flower:leaf ratio increased by 40%. When seedlings were treated with ABA, the expression level and protein kinase activity of NnSnRK1 significantly decreased. The phenotype of NnSnRK1-silenced seedlings could also be enhanced by ABA treatment and reversed by tungstate treatment. These results suggested that the decline of ABA content in lotus flower buds released its repression of NnSnRK1, which then initiated flower bud abortion.

Abstract Background Stigma associated with mental disorders is rooted among many pharmacists, and represents a major barrier to patient support in community-based psychiatry. We developed an assessment scale that is specifically designed to assess the level of stigma that pharmacists may have toward schizophrenia, and then examined the effects of reducing stigma with an educational program that focuses on communication with patients diagnosed with schizophrenia (PDS) using the newly developed Stigma Scale towards Schizophrenia for Community Pharmacists (SSCP). Methods SSCP was developed by exploratory factor analysis with promax rotation based on responses from 822 randomly selected community pharmacists. Furthermore, a randomized controlled trial was conducted for 115 community pharmacists to clarify the effects of reducing the stigma of schizophrenia using an educational program for them with a focus on communication with PDS. Participants were individually allocated to two groups: educational lecture group (56; only attending a lecture on schizophrenia) or contact-based intervention group (59; communicating with PDS and attending the lecture). The stigma assessment using SSCP was conducted immediately before and after the educational intervention. Results A total of 4 factors and 27 items were extracted from the exploratory factor analysis to comprise the SSCP. Cronbach’s α of SSCP, social distance at professional pharmacy service (factor I), attitudes towards PDS (factor II), self-disclosure (factor III), and social distance in personal (factor IV) were 0.89, 0.88, 0.76, 0.62, and 0.62, respectively. Educational program-related changes of the median (interquartile range) total SSCP score from baseline were − 9.0 (− 16.0 – − 5.0) in the contact-based intervention group and − 3.0 (− 7.0–1.0) in the educational lecture group, reflecting a significant reduction of stigma levels in the contact-based intervention group. On examining the SSCP subscales, scores for factor I and factor II significantly improved. The educational program was more effective for pharmacists aged 20–39 years or with negligible experience of communicating with PDS at work and/or in private life. Conclusions SSCP and the educational program for community pharmacists that focuses on communication with PDS were useful for assessing and reducing, respectively, the stigma attached by these pharmacists to schizophrenia. A field experiment using various soil management practices showed that the most effective means to increase blueberry plant spread was through the use of a surface mulch. Peat and sawdust were of equal suitability as a mulching material influencing vegetative growth, although sawdust did result in a reduction in the number of flower buds produced when compared with peat. Mulching was associated with a higher soil moisture content than non-mulched plots.Blueberry plants growing in nitrogen-treated plots had an increased flower bud number and rhizome growth in contrast with those growing in unfertilized plots. Nitrogen fertilization was of particular benefit when applied in association with surface organic mulches.Plants growing in an undisturbed soil were more vigorous than in a homogenized or tilled soil. Sawdust was found to be detrimental to the growth of lowbush blueberry plants when incorporated into a homogenized soil.

Tests to measure comprehension, formulation, and repetition of certain phonologic, syntactic, and semantic aspects of language were administered to 47 children who had developmental language disorders. A factor analysis of the resultant scores indicated that three factors were present in the data. These factors are presented as six patterns of language performance, one for high loadings on the factor and one for low loadings. The six patterns are (1) repetition strength (Factor I, high); (2) nonspecific formulation-repetition deficit (Factor I, low); (3) generalized low performance (Factor II, high); (4) phonologic comprehension-formulation-repetition deficit (Factor II, low); (5) comprehension deficit (Factor III, high); and (6) formulation-repetition deficit (Factor III, low). Possible relations among these patterns and nonlinguistic measures (sex, race, age, nonverbal intelligence, socioeconomic status, and status of the peripheral speech mechanism) were investigated. Two of the patterns of language performance were found to be related significantly to age. On Factor II, the younger children tended to get high loadings (generalized low performance) while the older children tended to get low loadings (phonologic comprehension-formulation-repetition deficit).

The growth of trees sprayed in spring with chlormequat is weaker, and their elongation growth ends 2 - 3 weeks earlier than that of unsprayed trees. Trees with growth inhibited by chlormequat set flower buds on the spurs and in the subapical part of long shoots. The course of flower bud differentiation starts in the second half of July and is similar to that in the apple tree.

Okra plant is becoming to be one of favortite vegetable in Indonesia since then the deman of this plant is growing very rapidly. The aim of this research is to Utilize Palm Oil Liquid Organic Fertilizer and M-Bio Biofertilizer Against Growth and Production in Okra Plants (Abelmoschusesculentus  L.  Moench).  This  study  used  a  Randomized  Block  Design (RBD) with 2 replications. Factorial consisting of II treatment factors, Factor I treatment given P0: Without Liquid Palm Oil Organic Fertilizer, P1: Provision of PKS liquid fertilizer and Factor II, treatment of giving M-Bio. Parameters observed in this study were  vegetative dan generative. The results showed that the treatment of oil palm liquid organic fertilizer had no significant effect on vegetative and generative observed parameters. The treatment of M-Bio biofertilizer significantly affected the vegetative and generative observation parameters where the best dose was treatment  6%. The treatment of the combination of liquid organic fertilizer from palm oil waste and M-Bio biological fertilizer has no significant effect on all parameters of vegetative and generative observations.
