The aim of this study is to show how the perceptions and attitudes of secondary school students towards mental health issues changed over the course of a Learning and Service project. The Learning and Service project was carried out by 58 students, together with the residents of a mental health institution during three months. Both students and residents shared several activities to bring them closer. Secondary school students did not have any previous experience with mental health residents before. The analysis took place during the course of the process, with the students responding to four questionnaires, each one after having done an activity together. The study demonstrates that through this Learning and Service project most of the students' perspectives changed for the better, some even viewed radical change while others were positive and finally few students only experienced neutral evolution of their ideas with respect to people with mental health disorders.

We present a catalogue, IPSCAT, of the results of Interplanetary Scintillation (IPS) analysis applied to observations that are compiled using data from three European radio networks, EISCAT, MERLIN and LOFAR, during the early science phase of the STEREO mission, from 2007 to 2012. These analyses provide a means to study the solar wind and interplanetary transients, which we complement with observations from the Heliospheric Imagers on-board STEREO. Within the IPS data set we identify transient phenomena, specifically Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) and Stream Interaction Regions (SIRs), via both visual inspection and an automatic feature-finding algorithm. We study the effectiveness of the automated detection algorithm and find it to be successful at classifying CMEs, whilst the identification of SIRs is less easily established. A discussion of the statistical properties of IPSCAT is presented, together with a comparison between the IPS and HI results. Finally, we present a case study of successive CMEs within the IPSCAT data set, which were also observed by the HIs on both STEREO spacecraft and analysed using the Stereoscopic Self-Similar Expansion (SSSE) method. This work was carried out as part of the EU FP7 HELCATS (Heliospheric Cataloguing, Analysis and Techniques Service) project (http://www.helcats-fp7.eu/).

The emerging problem of changing and shrinking economic base of many small towns causes necessity of searching for new paths of development for them. Former central service functions existing in many small towns are largely washed out to larger cities as a result of the present metropolisation processes. The question arises to what extent these towns are or may be attractive for the development of production functions. The aim of the paper is to show the role of industry for the development of small towns in Małopolska in Poland and Auvergne in France on the case studies of Myślenice and Issoire.

Abstract: The Brazilian Navy is preparing to design, build and repair nuclear submarine. One of the initiatives adopted was the creation of the Naval Agency for Nuclear Safety and Quality (AgNSNQ) which aims to assist the licensing of nuclear and naval facilities and conformity assessment of Quality Management Systems. The concept of the certification service of management systems needs to be evaluated, before expending resources and people to develop. This article aimed to assess the characteristics of AgNSNQ to design the ISO 9001 QMS certification service through the service project model. A case study was conducted to evaluate the characteristics of the AgNSNQ concerning the criteria. The article's contributions indicate that AgNSNQ should primarily promote efforts to train its auditors to create favorable conditions for designing the ISO 9001 QMS certification service.

AbstractUsing interviews with former militants and previously unpublished documents, this article traces the genesis and internal dynamics of the Ejército Revolucionario del Pueblo (People's Revolutionary Army, ERP) in El Salvador during the early years of its existence (1970–6). This period was marked by the inability of the ERP to maintain internal coherence or any consensus on revolutionary strategy, which led to a series of splits and internal fights over control of the organisation. The evidence marshalled in this case study sheds new light on the origins of the armed Salvadorean Left and thus contributes to a wider understanding of the processes of formation and internal dynamics of armed left-wing groups that emerged from the 1960s onwards in Latin America.

Abstract Culture shapes our basic sensory experience of the world. This is particularly striking in the study of religion and psychosis, where we and others have shown that cultural context determines both the structure and content of hallucination-like events. The cultural shaping of hallucinations may provide a rich case-study for linking cultural learning with emerging prediction-based models of perception.

Abstract Hoerl and McCormack demonstrate that although animals possess a sophisticated temporal updating system, there is no evidence that they also possess a temporal reasoning system. This important case study is directly related to the broader claim that although animals are manifestly capable of first-order (perceptually-based) relational reasoning, they lack the capacity for higher-order, role-based relational reasoning. We argue this distinction applies to all domains of cognition.

Abstract Sociocultural developmental psychology can drive new directions in gadgetry science. We use autobiographical memory, a compound capacity incorporating episodic memory, as a case study. Autobiographical memory emerges late in development, supported by interactions with parents. Intervention research highlights the causal influence of these interactions, whereas cross-cultural research demonstrates culturally determined diversity. Different patterns of inheritance are discussed.
