The Sustainability shift leads to a new way of thinking in all levels of society. It does not mean to shut down production, but to produce better. Designers should understand the whole supply chain, to recognize how things can be designed to make them easier to recycle. In manufacturer level, we must be just as persistent on environmental issues. Now we can attend to export the ideas, instead of materials or stuffs. Designers can share sustainable methods for a price. Even though we cannot predict the future now, thinking sustainable is here to stay. It is the time to find solution for the future all together. By collaborating and using design thoughts we can create our common future.

This article provides a comprehensive overview of one of the main areas where corporate social responsibility issues have impacted upon firms across the globe, namely the supply chain. Although the legal obligations for social and environmental issues are increasingly devolved to suppliers, the role of lead firms in the development of ethical supply chain management (ESCM) has been the subject of considerable debate. This article focuses on two questions which are central to the development of ESCM. First, it looks at stakeholder pressure for ESCM and its implications for the involvement of lead firms in ESCM. Second, it considers the conditions under which lead firms will be able to influence suppliers and implement ESCM. It then reviews the impact of ESCM on social and environmental performance. Finally, it outlines the implications for the development of effective ESCM.

The important role of SMEs in the national economy, the development of the current era, namely industry 4.0, requires businesses to continue to be able to innovate, especially in technology and operations including the supply chain SMEs, so it needs encouragement from various groups including academics how to make conceptual material into policy or decisions for actors and stakeholders. The perpetrator of the SME Borondong Industry is one that must be supported because it is a traditional cultural heritage which is also a superior product in West Java so that it is expected to improve the economy. Along with the growing awareness of SMEs on technology, because it is facing the millennial era, it is an opportunity for researchers to provide conceptual treats so that they can be useful for the actors of Borondong Industry SMEs. There are a number of problems that have been borne by these bourgeois SMEs, one of which is the absence of a concept that describes the condition of the supply chain of the SME industry. The aim of this study focuses on issues regarding the Borondong SME supply chain, exploring the areas that need to be improved and assessing how the supply chain performs. The research method used is descriptive with the approach of the Supply Chain Operation Reference (SCOR). The findings are a general description of the supply chain in the Borondong Industry SMEs. Keywords: Supply Chain, SMEs, SCOR

Underwater cultural heritage (UCH) constitutes an invaluable asset, which is lately being challenged by the blue growth trend that cannot be easily reconciled with the goal of UCH preservation and promotion. Maritime spatial planning (MSP)—under a place-based approach—creates better chances for UCH to receive more attention in the future compared to other resources, since it is considered to be the key procedure for tackling growing competition among sea users (user-user conflicts) and for mitigating the pressure these users put on the marine environment (natural and cultural). In Greece, a country with great insularity, extensive marine space, and a long and glorious past, UCH resources are in abundance. According to the official Ministry of Culture data-base, there are 88 designated UCH sites throughout the national waters, the majority of which are found very close to the shore. They usually concern ancient cities and built monuments that were eventually submerged (due to earthquakes, geological processes, etc.), so they usually have a mixed nature—terrestrial and marine. These sites, however, constitute a very small part of what is actually lying on the Greek seabed. Estimations for the future identify a rise in accidental discoveries of UCH, due to the blue growth trend and an increase in access to and work in the sea. In this event, much controversy is expected, concerning the appropriate type of management for UCH. The role of MSP in this decision-making process will be decisive, being about “when” and “where” human activities take place at sea, to ensure these are as efficient and sustainable as possible.

The following thesis began as an investigation into port cities that lie in the limbo between industrial and post-industrial. It questions the role of architecture during this stage of transition. The research brought forth a vision of infrastructural re-use and reversible architecture, aimed to address the indeterminate and environmental condition of de-industrialized contexts. Essentially this thesis envisions the reactivation of wasted rail and manufacturing infrastructure present among industrial-port cities. They are to become a supply chain network, producing temporary architecture. Areas of high rail density such as rail yards and industrial piers thus act as incubators of the future era; served by a reversible architecture. These communities become the focus of the city's redevelopment efforts while resisting the pressure of permanent, large scale redevelopments. As the transition from industrial to post-industrial nears stabilization, more permanent solutions will begin to emerge while the architecture may move on to serve another context.

Contemporary challenges in school and society, against any form of racism, refer to the urgency and the pedagogical potential of “memories” as a cultural heritage and as an “educational experience” to be exposed as educators and to which the school itself should be exposed. Moving up from the Indire Archive studies on racial laws, the present proposal intends to investigate the relationship between school and fascism from a perspective that aims to grasp the elements of resistance and metamorphosis, by tracing the possible didactic implications of a digitized historical heritage. Nevertheless, the scarring of racial laws becomes an opportunity for reflection and transformation, where the archive offers itself as a chance to build narratives-bridge with the future. The sources, which the contribution proposes as a documentary apparatus, come from the Indire historical archive, from which the project documented by an exhibition with materials dating back to the National Educational Exhibition of 1925 was developed. The systematic analysis of school materials is presented here following the results of cataloging, returning markedly ideological elaborations in languages, as then reflected in the contents, of a pedagogy gradually eroded in its role of development in favor of indoctrination.

The role of born digital photographic materials in the collections of cultural heritage institutions is growing, as are concerns about preserving these images for the future. In order to ensure the longevity of these materials, there are many complex issues that need to be considered before museums, libraries, archives, and other cultural collecting institutions acquire born digital photographic materials in significant quantities. There are many components involved in making appropriate decisions for any particular institution. This thesis project will address some of the issues that should be tackled before collecting born digital photographic materials, and it will also share some thoughts about what selected institutions are doing currently in regard to collecting and preserving born again digital photographic materials. There also will be suggested guidelines for institutions to consider when starting to study the acquisition process, as well as resources to contemplate before and after undertaking any acquisition process of born digital photographic materials.

This study aims to analyze environmental issues in criminal aspects. The aspect of environmental punishment is one of the most important factors to consider because it is the key to law enforcement and environmental and life sustainability factors in the future. Factually, there have been many deviations in the environmental field in various angles, which have resulted in more environmental pollution and an impact on the future. This study uses juridical-normative research, with dogmatic research, forms of descriptive research and uses descriptive-analytical analysis. The results showed that the role of government is one of the most powerful factors in reducing damage to the environment, because the government itself is part of the population in Indonesia. The government needs to maximize the program so that damage to the environment can be reduced. As mandated by UUPPLH No. 23 of 1997, which was updated with UUPPLH No. 32 of 2009. The law is expected to be able to run in accordance with current and future conditions. But the implementation of the Act still causes violations in the community. This is a factor in the non-operation of existing regulations due to the lack of awareness of related parties, about the importance of preserving nature and the environment, so that criminal aspects are considered as one way out of environmental law enforcement.

PurposeIn the past years, the importance of the cultural economy has led urbanism to a new perspective. Simultaneously, the main international institutions have pointed out the need to shift the urban economy into a sustainable one, green and energy efficient. The confluence of both flows explains why the imaginaries of the urban future are related to the concept of creative cities. Hence, the new economic engine of the cities should be founded on art, creativity and culture, all of them understood as clean energies. This study aims to show the crucial role of cultural heritage as a propeller of a new kind of urban development, more flexible and democratic, based on the construction of the city as a communicational, collective and open effort. Therefore, the city is conceived as a cultural heritage platform where tangible and intangible, social and creative interactions happen. Within this context, urban narratives appear as a dynamic material drawn on the possibilities offered by the heritage received from the past as a resource to be used for re-thinking and re-shaping the future.Design/methodology/approachThe approach of this paper is based on a profound analysis of historical cities, mainly in the European context, supported by the work carried out within the H2020 ROCK project. The cities within the project are: Athens, Bologna, Cluj-Napoca, Eindhoven, Lisbon, Liverpool, Lyon, Torino, Skopje and Vilnius. A wide variety of case studies coming mainly from these cities have been considered to understand better the theoretical point of view on the role of heritage, urban development and city branding. The information about cultural heritage projects used as case studies has been collected and selected coming from the direct work made on the field and the communication open with institutions and cultural stakeholders in every city. Even more, parallel seminars on cultural heritage and city branding organized within the project have allowed the authors to gather very valuable, updated and fresh information on these issues in every particular case.FindingsThe study proves that cultural heritage has been traditionally underrated as a mechanism for developing the future of the city and its communicative strategy. Cultural heritage appears as a practical tool for constructing more cohesive urban communities based on the use of public space and shared memories as storytelling platforms. The capacity of resiliency and sustainability revealed by cultural heritage through the time is, as well, a clear reference to construct a potential sustainable city, socially, culturally and environmentally.Social implicationsCultural heritage projects are shown as a perfect way to build stronger communities. Through the engagement and participation of citizens, urban storytelling reinforces a more open, real and sustainable city able to face the challenges of contemporary life (gentrification, pollution, mobility, etc.). Like that, heritage appears as a feasible tool for including citizens coming from all ages and backgrounds in the construction of a collective narrative of the city, based on the past and looking at the foreseen.Originality/valueThis study tries to relate fields that traditionally have remained not well connected: urban development, city branding and cultural heritage. The study demonstrates that cultural heritage is crucial as an urban narrative tool and consequently, as a planning/branding mechanism. Moreover, cultural institutions and cultural projects are very relevant platforms for social interaction, inviting citizens to have a more active role in the construction of the city as a collective communicational effort based on a network of social and cultural relations. Storytelling turns up as a new key element for communicating the city from grassroots, in a sustainable, democratic and inclusive manner, far away from the traditional top-down official perspective. Crowdsourcing methods are very powerful for establishing a shared and cohesive city brand, now rooted in its cultural and social foundations and not the marketing campaign clichés. Finally, storytelling emerges as a creative resource that enhances the social, cultural and economic layout of the city, forcing urbanists to include a greener, fairer and more democratic perspective in the future of cities.
