Notable an obstetrician-gynecologist, urologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Alexander Mazhbits made a great contribution to the history of medicine of the USSR and the annals of the Arkhangelsk state medical Institute (ASMI, now the North-State Medical University (NSMU)), where he headed the Department in 1953-1958. Being the author of over 120 scientific works and 7 books, many scientific inventions and publications on obstetric and gynecological urology and its history, he was a creator of the textbook Operative urogynecology, inventor and prominent scientist. Each operation for a particular urogynecological disease the author described in detail and step by step with the attachment of original visual drawings, photos or radiographs, diagrams of practical activities. Alexander Moiseevich was the first who proposed a new direction for the creation of urogynecology. Not specific urologists, surgeons or obstetricians-gynecologists should deal with this activities, but urogynecologists who consider the female pelvis as a whole. A.M. Mazhbits wrote: Obstetrics-gynecology and female urology are daughter cells of general pelvic surgery, they are twins of different ages, so closely related to each other genetically, clinically and practically that the boundaries between them are often smoothed out.

The article is dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding representative of the St. Petersburg medical school and thoracic surgery of the country, the talented scientist and teacher, doctor of medical sciences, professor Petr Kazimirovich Yablonskiy. P. K. Yablonskiy is the founder of many progressive endeavors in medicine: the study of the fundamental principles of respiratory transplantation implemented in the world’s first successful simultaneous allotransplantation of the trachea (1991) and the first successful bilateral lung transplantation in the Russian Federation; the creation of the Russian school of interventional pulmonology and the St. Petersburg school of breast endovascular surgery; the development and implementation for the first time in world practice of the concept of using robot-assisted operations in the treatment of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Significant scientific potential and high organizational capabilities allowed P. K. Yablonskiy to lead and actively develop the Center for Intensive Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery on the basis of the multidisciplinary city hospital; the Department of Hospital Surgery, and then the Faculty of Medicine of St. Petersburg University; St. Petersburg Research Institute of Phthisiopulmonology. The great experience in clinical medicine and the organization of public health contributed to his appointment as the chief freelance specialist – the thoracic surgeon of the Ministry of Health of the country, and also allowed him to head the Association of Thoracic Surgeons and the National Association of TB specialists, created by him.

 Occupational health hazards are the very important unavoidable problems of different type of jobs. All occupational jobs contain several tasks and workers are compelled to adopt some harmful and awkward postures during performing those tasks. These types of repetitive jobs may be related to occupational health hazards like musculo skeletal disorder (MSD). In the present methodology different MSD related problems of the workers can be assessed by the questionnaire techniques considering the issues of community health development. In this concern a simple and easily applicable questionnaire technique has been established for the different occupations during performing tasks. It was concluded that MSD among the workers might be related to the stressful work posture, long duration jobs, nature of jobs and use of ill-fitted hand tools. Vladimir Dmitrievich Fedorov was born on 21 March 1933 in Moscow. After finishing school he entered in the 2nd Moscow medical Institute named after N. And. Pirogov (1950-1956), where he performed the duties of Secretary of the Bureau of the Komsomol of the course and the member of the Komsomol Committee of the Institute; engaged in experimental work on the defibrillation of the heart. Studied in residency (1956-1958), graduate school (1958-1960), worked as a teaching assistant (1960-1966) and then associate Professor (1966-1971) chair of hospital surgery of the 2nd Moscow state medical Institute. In 1963 he defended his Ph. D. in 1971 doctoral dissertation. In 1972, Vladimir Dmitrievich Fedorov was appointed Director of research laboratory surgery clinic of the Ministry of health of the RSFSR. In 1976, on the initiative of V. D. Fedorov was the first in the USSR Department of Coloproctology of the Central doctors improvement Institute, which he headed for 13 years. In 1982 he was elected a corresponding member, and in 1986, academician of the Academy of medical Sciences (AMS) of the USSR. Since 1988, Vladimir Fyodorov, Director of the Institute of surgery named after AV Vishnevsky Academy of medical Sciences of the USSR. In 1990, V. D. Fedorov elected to the chair of surgery, faculty of postgraduate professional education of Moscow medical Academy named after I. M. Sechenov. Since 1974 he worked as a Deputy chief surgeon of the Medical center of President's Affairs Administration of the Russian Federation. D. Fedorov is the author of over 500 scientific works, including 13 copyright certificates and patents, and 20 monographs. Under his leadership, and counseling are protected by 32 doctoral and 47 master's theses. V. D. Fedorov was an honorary member of the Russian Association of endoscopic surgery and the Association hepatobiliary surgery, Moscow surgical society, surgical scientific societies of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and the Saratov region, Chairman of the surgical section and member of the Presidium of scientific medical Council of Ministry of health of the Russian Federation, a member of the Interdepartmental health Council, Deputy chief editor of the journal "Surgery", member of the editorial Board of the journal "Surgical Laparoscopy and Endoscopy" and one of the oldest journals "British Journal of Surgery". For two years he headed the Association of surgeons named after N. And. Pirogov (1992-1994). More than 10 years he was a member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of medical Sciences and performed the duties of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the institutes of the Russian Academy of medical Sciences. Vladimir Dmitrievich, a foreign member of the Belarusian Academy of medical Sciences (2000) and the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (2003), honorary Professor of the Petrovsky national research center of the Russian Academy of medical Sciences and the Bashkir medical College. Academician V. D. Fedorov is the main national representative in the International society of surgeons (1990) national representative in the International society of University surgeons Coloproctology. Mr Kuznetsov – laureate of the State prize of the USSR (1985) and the RSFSR (1991), RF Government prize (2002), Honored scientist of Russia (1997), awarded the order of red banner of Labor (1976, 1978), Lenin (1983), "For merits before Fatherland" III degree, Friendship of peoples (1993).

Outstanding representatives of the St. Petersburg medical dynasty from the Waldman family: V.A. Waldman, his son A.V. Waldman and sister A.A. Waldman made a huge contribution to the health care of our country. The founder and first head of the department of faculty therapy at the Leningrad State Pediatric Medical Institute, Viktor A. Waldman, is an outstanding therapist, cardiologist, rheumatologist, classic of domestic medicine, a successor to the best traditions of the Botkin school. Cardiovascular pathology was studied clinically and experimentally by him and his staff, the pathogenesis of various forms of rheumatism was studied, methods for its diagnosis and treatment were developed. He did a great job of creating the rheumatological service of the city, for the first time founded in Leningrad cardiac rheumatology rooms at large enterprises, and later on a cardiac rheumatology clinic. Arthur V. Waldman son of V.A. Waldman, a prominent pharmacologist, head of the department of pharmacology of the 1st Leningrad Medical Institute named after academician I.P. Pavlov, academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR made a significant contribution to the study of the mechanism of action of various pharmacological substances on synaptic transmission of excitation in the central nervous system. A large series of works by A.V. Waldman is devoted to the pharmacology of emotional stress, the problem of the experimental study of emotions and means of controlling them. Alisa A. Valdman sister of V.A. Waldman, a pathologist, an employee of the All-Union Institute of Experimental Medicine, studied the role of nervous and hormonal regulation in the development of the infectious process, which she studied on a paratyphoid model for enteric infection in laboratory animals.

The dissertation was completed at the departments of microbiology and obstetric-gynecological Kazan. state Institute for Advanced Training of Physicians. V.I. Lenin. The dissertation candidate reviewed the literature of Russian and foreign sources, presented the clinical and experimental data obtained by various authors (Ulesko-Stroganova, Lebedeva, etc.), gave different views on the mechanism of action of streptocide: through the reticulo-endoelial system or due to the direct bactericidal property of the streptocide itself. The author's own research consists of an experimental and a clinical part.
