Background: The current ongoing coronavirus-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has brought a sea change in education teaching learning system, ways and methodologies. Online teaching has been enforced suddenly for students worldwide. It has become a substitute to traditional teaching. Aware of the fact that the Corona pandemic has changed the way of learning teaching, we want to find out what students think about their real predispositions. This study is to compare and evaluate the opinions, preferences, experiences of undergraduate medical students during continuous online classes since the onset of Pandemic times.Methods: A sample size of 115 undergraduate medical students of batch 2019 was taken for the study done in Sardar Patel Medical College of Bikaner, Rajasthan, India in October 2020.A questionnaire was prepared using Google forms application and was filled by students online.Results: Majority of students had a preference and interest for traditional mode of teaching, they agreed on better understanding of concepts and details of topic and grasping more of knowledge through it. But majority of students also agreed that they are getting more time to study now with online teaching.Conclusions: This study gives an in depth insight into the current ongoing online teaching methodologies and throws light on changing acceptance of students to the current COVID-19 pandemic ways of teaching and on welcoming a better “blended learning” pattern in the upcoming Post COVID-19 new normal times.

Background:Undergraduate medical students, perceive the subject of Community Medicine as irrelevant to their role as physician and majority of the students dislike the subject and consider it as dull and boring. The present research study aims to study the effectiveness of ‘WhatsApp’ as medium of teaching complementing the traditional teaching to enhance the knowledge and skills of the undergraduate medical students using case based learning.Methods:Before and after comparison Interventional study design amongst 49 sixth semenster students conducted over a period of six months in a private medical college. Implementation of the study divided into three phases – preparatory, intervention and evaluation phase.Results:The improvement in average marks scored for epidemiology module was 1.97 and that for diabetes module was 5.38 which were statistically significant. The participation rate for the various modules ranged from as low as 10.2% to 73.5%. About 90% students perceived ‘WhatsApp’ as an effective tool for teaching-learning; a tool that stimulates and encourages learning.Conclusions:There was a significant improvement in knowledge amongst the students. Though perceived as an effective tool for learning by the students, participation rate in online discussion was poor over the course of implementation.

This paper explored the pedagogical preparations taken by the researcher in integrating blogs to the traditional classroom experience as well as its use in online classes as a tool for students to write about what they have learned in class and relate it to everyday life. The researcher utilized web blog, combined Facebook and Multiply blogsites, in the online teaching. Utilization of blogsites to supplement the traditional method of teaching was a welcome innovation for most students. The study involved thirty-eight (38) enrolled students of the course English 111. The familiarity and convenience of facebook and multiply blogsites makes learning and complying to requirements an enjoyable task. Blogs as a learning space for English 111 was an effective teaching methodology appreciated by the students. However, the integration of blogs in the traditional teaching learning process requires preparation and planning on the part of the teacher so that applicable and timely activities could be given to the students.

Background and Objectives: Due to Covid-19 lockdown period undergraduate medical institutions across the country are moving towards e-learning for continuity of education. The purpose of this study is to determine the perceptions of students towards e-learning and to analyze medical students’ perception on e-learning vs. conventional learning. Materials and Method: This was a descriptive cross sectional study conducted by distributing an online semi-structured questionnaire consisting Likert scale to undergraduate medical students of Kathmandu Medical College. Data assembled from the survey were analyzed and Statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) 24 version software was used for data analysis. Result: A total of 273 students were enrolled in this study. Most of the students, 83.9% (229) had the perception that conventional teaching method was the best method for learning as compared to e-learning method 16.1% (44). The students mentioned that conventional method of learning is more effective to increase knowledge than e -learning (M= 3.87, M= 2.80) which was statistically significant (p=0.000). Conclusion: E-learning was the only option for students to study during lockdown period. But students preferred conventional method of learning as compared to e-learning. It might be due to some disadvantages of e-learning, eg. Technical difficulties, lack of interaction with teacher  and patients, etc. So, these measures have to be addressed for improving e-learning for betterment of teaching-learning activity during these types of circumstances in future.

Background: The unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic has caused a sudden shift towards the exclusive adoption of online teaching, forming the primary source of medical education and enabling students to continue to learn remotely. The role in the academic arena has gained importance furthermore considering the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic causing educational institutions around the world over to close down and thus giving rise to multiple challenges at all stages and levels of education in particular for students, due to the lockdown situation. Hence the present study was carried out to assess the perceptions of undergraduate medical students regarding e-learning during COVID-19 pandemic.Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out from April 2021 to June 2021 among 404 undergraduate medical students of IIMSR Medical College, Badnapur, Jalna, Maharashtra. The questionnaire had eliciting information about socio-demographic profile, knowledge and perception regarding advantages and challenges of e-learning was administered to them. Data was entered in Microsoft excel and analyzed using statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS) version-13.0.Results: About 87% students were of opinion that e-learning was not useful and not motivated to use it and 38% students’ think it’s beneficial as has interactive mode, but 62% students think otherwise. Only 36% are of opinion that e-learning will improve their performance. Majority 78% students think e-learning will not help in better understanding then formal teaching methods.Conclusions: Undergraduate medical students were still more inclined towards traditional teaching rather than e-learning. Faculty members should take necessary measures for improving e-learning facility and quality to help with better learning.

The failure rates of the medical students had increased during the past few years. There are many supportive factors for deteriorating the students’ performance. One of these might be due to some defect in teaching/learning system. Therefore, the aim of this study is to determine the effects of changes in teaching/learning schedule pattern in Physiology Subject among 2nd MB BS students from University of Medicine, Magway. A Comparative study was done. Data was collected from 2nd MBBS students studying at University of Medicine, Magway, Myanmar (n = 230). Class test-1 was done before the introducing of the new teaching/learning schedule pattern. There was 3-month intervention of introducing the new teaching/learning schedule pattern. At the end of this program, class test-2 was done. Scores of all students in class test-1 and class test-2 were compared and analyzed. In the present study, the average marks of class test-1 and class test-2 were 38.23±14.56 and 43.32±18.42, respectively. It was found that the average score of the students in class test-2 was higher than that of class test-1(p< 0.001). Both class test-1 and class test-2 included 2 sections which involved multiple choice questions (MCQs) and multiple short questions (MSQs). In MCQs section, 22.17% of the total students were passed in class test-1 whereas it was increased to 33.48% in class test-2 (p< 0.01). In MSQs section, it was indicated that 29.56% of the total students were passed in class test-1 and 39.56% of the students were passed in class test-2 (p< 0.001). In the average score of both MCQs and MSQs, the students passed rate is increased from 26.96% to 36.96% after the changing of teaching/learning style (p< 0.001).This findings suggested that the new teaching/learning style was more effective than the traditional teaching.

Objectives: The objective of the study was to evaluate the perception of the undergraduate students about the online platform developed, through a long-term, qualitative study. COVID-19 enforced initial lockdown and later closing of educational institutes, including medical colleges in India. The circumstances lead to adoption of online means of teaching for teaching the medical undergraduate students. An interactive dual-mode online platform was introduced for teaching and assessment of undergraduate students in our institute also. Materials and Methods: Narrative experiences and reflections of students while attending online classes through the designed and delivered “interactive dual-mode online platform” were collected through open ended, anonymous Google forms. Results: Students were satisfied with the online learning as a stop-gap arrangement. Although they were facing technical snags and internet issues, they were happy that their syllabus was being covered and they were receiving formative assessment, in whatever quantity and mode possible. However, they were concerned about the lack of clinical training. Conclusion: To tide over crisis period, online teaching can be used, but one should shift to onsite teaching as soon as possible, particularly for medical students.

ABSTRACT Background The exposure of students to stressful events and the association of these events with students’ mental health is an important matter in Medical Education. To address this arduous training and solve emerging problems, some students develop methods to help them and, among these, resilience. A hybrid learning system, merging active and traditional learning, can be a supplementary source of stress generation , since it demands the acquisition of knowledge by the students, for summative assessments of traditional teaching as well as for the autonomous search for knowledge, skills, and attitudes required in the problematization. Purpose To determine the degree of resilience throughout the medical course under the hybrid teaching-learning system, identifying underlying mechanisms. Methods This was a cross-sectional study developed from August 2017 to August 2018, at Christus University Center, Brazil, a medical school that uses problem-based learning curricula associated with traditional teaching methodology. Wagnild and Young Resilience Scale was applied to medical students from all semesters. Socioeconomic, emotional and self-reported performance variables were also collected. The association between variables was assessed with minimally adjusted logistic regression models. Results 173 medical students participated in this study, with a mean age of 22.4 years, of which 65.3% were females. 88.1% of the medical students showed high or very high resilience. Receiving support from family and friends was associated with better resilience (p values lower than 0.001), as students who were “very satisfied” or “satisfied” with family support had a greater tendency to develop better degrees of resilience, with results of “very high resilience trends” (82.50%) and “high resilience trends” (71.10%) surpassing the prevalence identified in dissatisfied students. Also, having a religious belief was also associated with higher resilience degrees (p value = 0.02). Conclusions Factors identified in this study, mainly the importance of the support network from family and friends can be stimulated in order to improve students’ resilience. There was no direct association between the academic performance self-assessment and the students’ resilience and the resilience of medical students tends to remain constant throughout the course.

Background: Medical institutes remained on complete shut down during the coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic while Information Technology (IT) bridged the teaching learning between the students and teachers. The study objectives were to determine the opportunities and obstacles of teaching learning process and overall effectiveness of online classes over traditional classes. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from July 2020 to December 2020 between students and teachers of Khulna city Medical College, Khulna, Bangladesh. An online questionnaire was developed using google form containing four sections about different aspects of IT and teaching learning process. Results: Around 87% (160 vs 48) students and teachers responded to the questionnaire. The most preferred online teaching learning platform for students and teachers was zoom (84.4% vs 83.4%) and the favored devices were smart phone (96.2% vs 87.5%) followed by laptop computer (90.6% vs 83.3%). The majority felt connected to each other (82.5% vs 62.5%) and could work faster and effectively (75% vs 66.7%). Conversely, students (65.6%) felt online learning was more enjoyable than teachers (29.2%), where significant difference was found; (p= 0.006). Poor network (98.1% vs 79.1%) and affordability of mobile data (81.2% vs 66.7%) were the two main barriers among them. On-line teaching-learning neither increased student- teacher interaction (51.9% vs 66.7%), nor had better scope of asking question (52.5% vs 70.8%) and there was less scope of explaining details (52.5% vs 66.7%). Oral assessment was the most preferable (89.4% vs 83.3%), but the practical assessment (78.1% vs 83.3%) was the least preferable method for assessing students’ knowledge and skill online. Overall effectiveness of online classes over traditional classes was scored around 50% (±10%) by students and teachers (58.1% vs 62.5%). Conclusion: Despite having barriers like poor network, data affordability and limited computer and net usability, online classes played a pivotal role to continue the academic activities in a medical college during Corona pandemic. BACKGROUND Coronavirus pandemic ever since its beginning has impacted all aspects of human life. Its impact on education was more evident as all schools, colleges had to be shut down. However, Covid-19 has forced educational institutions to search for new modes of teaching. Every school and college was forced to adopt the digital medium of education or e learning. Following the preventive measures of social distancing, all conventional classroom classes were suspended due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Considering the prevailing lockdown imposed by the government and the necessary physical distancing, an online teaching session was conducted everywhere in all the medical colleges. We used a free version of Zoom for teaching classes for medical students. Students’ perceptions were collected at the end of the lecture series. We wanted to understand and analyse the perception of medical students regarding e-classes, to collect feedback for further improvement of e-classes and optimum utilisation of online platform for undergraduate medical students and to assesses the perceptions of medical students towards e-learning during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted at AC Subba Reddy Medical College, Nellore, in the month of September 2020 among 476 medical students of all the professional years. A pretested self-administered questionnaire was used to conduct the study. After taking verbal consent over telephone, data was collected from questionnaire sent through Google Forms. Students were asked to read each choice carefully and choose the response which best expresses his / her feelings. SPSS version 23 was used for data analysis. RESULTS A total of 476 students’ responses was received; 137 were males and 245 were females. Around 3 / 4 th were (77 %) having negative perception towards elearning. Almost 3 / 4 th (76 %) of the students used smartphone for e-learning. CONCLUSIONS Overall, the students felt that e-learning is not at par with conventional classroom learning but felt it to be an extremely useful mode of learning during the period of Covid-19 pandemic.
