Background: Agricultural work is subject to the health risks inherent to a rural environment and at the same time to those deriving from the specific work process involved. India being a country of agriculture, majority of its population is engaged in agriculture based activities in a varied manner either directly or indirectly. This sector of activity being most unorganized, very little attention has been given to the occupational health problems of these workers; though the need of investigation and intervention towards these problems has repeatedly been mentioned. Objective: 1)To find out the demographic distribution of agriculture related mechanical health hazards 2)To find out the magnitude of agriculture related mechanical health hazards 3) To find out the protective measures being used by the agricultural workers for the prevention of mechanical health hazards. 4) To give the necessary recommendations for the prevention of mechanical health hazards. Methods: It is a Cross-Sectional study. The study was conducted from the period of June 2009 to December 2011.. Data Collection: A pilot study was conducted on 10 patients. Data collection was done through asking questionnaire from the patients/relatives (AWs); clinical examination and clinical case records of the patients. Analysis of Data: Data was analyzed in the form of percentage (%) and presented in the tabular form. Chi- square (χ2) test was applied as a test of significance with the help of statistical software SPSS statistics (version- 17)Results: Out of total 53 cases 42 (79.25) were males and 11(20.75) were females. Majority (75.48%) of the respondents were hired laborers followed by own land workers (24.52%). Males (79.25%) were more addicted than females(20.75%). Majority of the cases were due to equipment/ instrument induced (64.15%), followed by animal induced (35.85%) injuries. It was revealed that maximum number of the cases (83.02%)were not using PPE and only 16.98% were using any kind of PPE.International Journal of Occupational Safety and Health, Vol 4 No 2 (2014) 19– 23

Objective: To determine the differences in treatment strategies and material preferences for deep dentine carious lesions (DDCLs) management among general and specialist dentists. Methods: Dentists working in universities, oral and dental health centers, or private practice were administered a 14-item web-based questionnaire regarding demographic and occupational characteristics, approaches to DDLCs, pulp capping methods, and preferences for restorative materials. The data were examined using descriptive statistical analysis and Pearson’s chi-square tests. Results: The study enrolled 298 general and 265 specialist dentists among whom 67.1% were female and 73.3% were aged 25 to 35 years. Total excavation and permanent restoration of DDCLs were the commonly preferred treatments (67.0%), although the pediatric dentists tended toward selective caries removal in these lesions. Mineral trioxide aggregate was used more regularly by the pediatric dentists and endodontists. The pediatric dentists exhibited statistically significantly lower preference for canal treatment than general dentists and endodontists as treatment option for mature teeth with DDCLs (p<0.05). Conclusion: Conservative treatment approaches and material preferences of specialists and general dentists in DDCLs are generally different. The age of dentists, the time since their graduation, place of work and the number of patients they have seen daily may affect the approaches and preferences.

BACKGROUND Occupational conditions are deadly health hazards especially where dust exposure is inevitable causing chronic disabilities, impaired respiratory function and ultimately leading to death if no intensive measures are put in place. Unhealthy practices and negative attitudes rise in the number of cases of pneumoconiosis due to poor health education and awareness strategies. Pneumoconiosis is not only a health problem but also a social and economic burden on the livelihood of people living in mining areas around the globe. OBJECTIVE to assess knowledge, attitude and practices of miners and post-occupational miners towards pneumoconiosis in Wusakile Township, Kitwe, Zambia. METHODS A cross-sectional study was employed to conduct a research in Wusakile Township and a questionnaire was customized in order to syphon data relevant to the study as well to be brief. The study was conducted among 73 participants who were randomly selected among miners and post-occupational miners and all satisfied the inclusion criteria. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used to collect data. The data was entered and analysed using IBM SPSS software version 23. RESULTS Among 73 participants interviewed, 33.99% of participants had poor knowledge on the complications of pneumoconiosis. However, despite this poor knowledge, all participants had an idea about pneumoconiosis particularly silicosis. 13.70% of the respondents had bad practices towards pneumoconiosis while 86.30% had some good practices towards pneumoconiosis. Of the total participants, 19.18% of the participants had a negative attitude towards pneumoconiosis. Correlation between the level of education and practices of participants using Pearson Chi-Square, a p value of 0.021 (significant) was found ruling out the null hypothesis. CONCLUSIONS Information about pneumoconiosis and awareness programs towards pneumoconiosis are not widely disseminated among miners and post-occupational miners. There is still a significant number of participants who need to be educated more about pneumoconiosis and its complications so that attitude and practices are improved and also promote full community participation by involving competent health professionals to help in implementing preventive measures.

Background:The treatment of patients presenting with cervicogenic dizziness (CGD) may be challenging. Indeed, there is no consensual treatment approach for CGD, nor is there no gold-standard assessment for diagnosis. Objectives:Our study aimed to assess the management of CGD by rheumatologists versus otorhinolaryngologists. Methods:We conducted a cross-sectional study including Tunisian doctors dealing with CGD. Rheumatologists (RTO) and otorhinolaryngologists (ORL) were invited to answer a questionnaire via google form about CGD daily management. Outcomes of interest were treatment modalities. Results:The study included 30 RTO and 32 ORL. Most of the doctors (RTO, vs ORL) were females (88.3%, vs 56.3%), aged between 35 and 45 (43.3%, vs 62.5%), and worked at a private practice (33.3%, vs 59.4%). The number of patients diagnosed with CGD by RTO was as follows: 1-2 per year (33.3%), 1-2 per month (18.8%), 1-2 per week (20%), less than one patient a year (10%) and none in 3.3% of cases. The number of patients diagnosed with CGD by ORL was as follows: 1-2 per year (50%), 1-2 per month (33.3%), 1-2 per week (6.2%), less than one patient a year (15.7%) and none (9.4%). Most patients presenting with CGD were females in both groups (93.1%, vs 82.8% respectively) with a mean age between 36 and 65 (79.3%, vs 82.1%). Most of the respondents declared treating patients with CGD (93.1%, vs 79.1%). Regarding treatment modalities, physical therapy was the most prescribed in both specialties (81.5% and 48.3%, respectively). Only RTO (18.5%) prescribed manual therapy. Concerning medical treatment, anti-inflammatory were the most prescribed drugs in both groups (92.6, and 34.5%, respectively). Sixty-seven percent of RTO prescribed anti-vertigo medication. Interestingly, it was the least prescribed drug by ORL (6.9%). Only RTO (59.3%) prescribed Muscle relaxants. Conclusion:Despite the disparities in the management of CGD, physical therapy remains the first prescribed treatment by Tunisian doctors. Further studies are needed to establish a consensus to treat CGD.Disclosure of Interests:None declared

Objective Medicine is considered one if not the most stressful educational field. Thus, the aim of this study is to investigate the prevalence of stress and poor sleeping quality among medical students and the association between them. Method This cross-sectional study was conducted at the University of Jordan on second- and third-year medical students. The questionnaire consisted of: 1) Demographics; 2) The assessment tools which were Pittsburgh Quality of Sleep Index (PSQI) and Kessler Psychological Distress Status (K10). Binary logistic regression, chi-square and linear regression were used to investigate the association between PSQI, K10, and their determinants. Results The mean for PSQI score was 6.76 ± 3.32. PSQI scores interpretation revealed that 61.7% of the 282 participants of this study were poor sleepers. Logistic regression results showed that only the category of not napping at all from the napping hours variable was significantly associated with sleeping quality. Furthermore, the mean of K10 scores was 24.5 ± 8.5. K10 scores revealed that 66.3% of the participants were stressed. Logistic regression results showed that gender and regular exercise were significantly associated with psychological distress. Additionally, chi-square test, logistic regression and linear regression showed that PSQI was significantly associated with K10 (P <0.01). Conclusions Stress and poor sleeping quality in medical students at the University of Jordan were highly prevalent and strongly associated. What determined PSQI was daytime napping, and for K10 were regular exercise and gender. Further investigations into stress and sleep quality in the Arabian region are needed.
