Investigations have also reported that the efficacy of telemedicine in the easy delivery of information and provision of regular patient-doctor interaction and therefore, enhancing the quality of care of diabetics and reducing the risk of developing severe complications. In the present study, we aimed to discuss telemedicine use in the management of diabetic complications, depending on information from studies within the literature. Overall, telemedicine assists patients to properly maintain basic and adequate levels of blood glucose levels through continuous reminders. Therefore, the application of this modality requires patients to have home-based assessment devices for the regular monitoring of the blood glucose levels. Moreover, the modality also enhances the connection between the patient and the physicians which make the patient at an ease of being able to communicate with the doctor whenever necessary and therefore, this might have a positive psychological impact on these patients. Moreover, telemedicine can provide patients with adequate treatment schedules that might help patients comply with their drugs. Additionally, it can provide the most appropriate dietary components that can also help in achieving the best intervention, with the necessary supervision. Although there is good evidence about the efficacy of telemedicine as an efficacious modality in the treatment of diabetes and management of complications, the evident application in the healthcare settings is still poor. The main reason behind such lack of proper application is the potential lack of adequate financial support, lack of experienced staff dealing with the modalities and maintaining the best quality of care for the patients.

The diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) will come as an unwelcome surprise to most people. Within a short period of time, the person will have to come to understand and manage this chronic illness. The terminology associated with the T1D condition will also be totally new to the person: diabetes mellitus, pancreas, hyperglycaemia (hyper), hypoglycaemia (hypo), bolus (fast acting insulin), basal (slow acting insulin), ketones and blood glucose levels. The purpose of this article is to assist newly diagnosed patients' understanding of T1D, people who are already living with T1D, carers of people with T1D, partners and family members of someone with T1D, work colleagues, and friends who participate in the same sporting activities or go on holiday with a person who has T1D. In addition, this article reviews how people living with T1D can still enjoy exercise and maintain the best quality of life possible; whilst controlling the blood glucose levels in their body for the rest of their lives to prevent the onset of complications associated with diabetes.

Abstract Background Nutraceuticals containing traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) are promoted for use in the management of diabetes. The evidence to support such use is largely unknown. This study aimed to summarise and evaluate the literature reporting the results of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating the effects of nutraceuticals in people living with diabetes. Methods Literature from four electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL and Web of Science) was searched following PRISMA guidelines to yield RCT publications on nutraceutical for diabetes management published since 2009. The quality of reporting was assessed using the CONSORT 2010 checklist statement. Risk-of-bias for each study was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. Results Out of 1978 records identified in the initial search, 24 randomized, double/triple-blinded, controlled trials that investigated the effect of nutraceuticals covering 17 different TCM herbs for diabetes management were selected. Participants included people who were diabetic (n = 16), pre-diabetic (n = 3) or predisposed to diabetes (n = 5). Sample sizes ranged between 23 and 117 for 2 arms, or 99–165 for 3 arms. Comparisons were made against placebo (n = 22), conventional medicine (n = 1), or regular diet (n = 1) for a duration between 4 and 24 weeks. All but one study tested the effect on fasting blood glucose levels (n = 23) or glycated haemoglobin levels (n = 18), and/or postprandial 2-h blood glucose levels (n = 4) as the primary outcomes. Nineteen studies reported some statistically significant reductions in the respective measures while 5 studies showed no effect on primary or secondary outcomes. None of the included studies met all the criteria for the CONSORT guidelines. Incomplete reporting about randomization and blinding, and a lack of ancillary analyses to explore other influential factors and potential harms associated with the use were repeatedly noted. Based on the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool, 19 studies were deemed to have a high risk of bias mainly attributed to sponsor bias. Conclusions There is some evidence to suggest positive clinical outcomes in response to the administration of a range of nutraceuticals containing TCM in the management of diabetes. However, these results must be interpreted with caution due to the overall low quality of the trials.

Diabetes is a demanding disease, so it can affect life in many ways. Managing diabetes can be stressful. The way feel when the blood glucose levels are low or high adds to the stress. On top of that, there are the worries that might develop complications, and the burden of dealing with any complications may already have. It is no wonder that many people feel that diabetes affects their quality of life

For improvisation of diabetic’s quality of life, nanotechnology is facilitating the development of advanced glucose sensors as well as efficient insulin delivery systems. Our prime focus of the review is to highlight the advancement in diabetic research with special reference to nanotechnology at its interface. Recent studies are more focused on enhancing sensitivity, accuracy, and response by employing metal as well as nanoparticles based glucose sensors. Moreover, the review focuses on nanoscale based approaches i.e. closed-loop insulin delivery systems, which detect any fluctuation in blood glucose levels and allow controlled release of a drug, thus are also called self-regulating insulin release system. Additionally, this review summarizes the role of nanotechnology in the diagnosis and treatment of diabetic complications through little advancement in the existing techniques. To improve health, as well as the quality of life in diabetic’s new sensing systems for blood glucose level evaluation and controlled administration of drugs through efficient drug delivery systems should be explored.

Background: Various complications caused by causing diabetes mellitus patients to undergo treatment at the Hospital to overcome the complaints that arise. This causes the patient to experience stress physically and psychologically. Objective: To explain the effect of progressive muscle relaxation on the stress response, blood glucose levels, and quality of life in patients with diabetes mellitus. Method: This systematic review used the PRISMA approach. The database used in this study were Scopus, Pubmed, Proquest, and Science Direct in English. Results: Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) could reduce muscle tension, stress, lower blood pressure, increased tolerance for daily activities. Regular exercise can make it easier for patients to concentrate and relax conditions will be more quickly achieved thereby increasing the performance of the adrenal glands to produced sedative hormones which will have an impact on reducing stress and decreasing blood glucose levels so that the quality of life of DM patients increased. Conclusion: PMR influences the stress response, blood glucose levels, and quality of life in patients with diabetes mellitus. Tujuan: Untuk menjelaskan pengaruh progressive muscle relaxation terhadap respon stres, kadar glukosa darah dan kualitas hidup pada pasien Diabetes Melitus. Metode: Systematic review ini menggunakan pendekatan PRISMA. Database yang digunakan adalah Scopus, Pubmed, Proquest, dan Science Direct menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Hasil: Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) mampu mengurangi ketegangan otot, menurunkan stress, menurunkan tekanan darah, meningkatkan toleransi terhadap aktivitas sehari-hari. Latihan yang teratur dapat membuat pasien lebih mudah untuk memusatkan pikiran dan kondisi rileks akan lebih cepat tercapai sehingga meningkatkan kinerja kelenjar adrenal untuk memproduksi hormon penenang yang akan berdampak pada penurunan stres dan penurunan kadar glukosa darah sehingga kualitas hidup pasien DM meningkat. Kesimpulan: PMR memiliki pengaruh terhadap respon stres, kadar glukosa darah, dan kualitas hidup pada pada pasien diabetes melitus. Objective: The goal of this study was to evaluate the effect of relaxation therapy on depression, anxiety, stress, quality of life, and blood glucose levels among patients diagnosed with type II diabetes mellitus (T2DM).Methods: A quasi-experimental research design was used. Sample: Convenience sample of 70 patients was recruited and assigned to one of two groups, an intervention group (Group A) and a control group (Group B). A table of random numbers was generated and used to make group assignments. Setting: The study was conducted at Medical Outpatient Clinics in Menoufia University Hospital, Menoufia governorate, Egypt. Instruments: Data collection included a structured interview questionnaire that included socio-demographic characteristics and clinical data, the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS), and the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BRIEF).Results: The findings indicate that anxiety level, stress, depression, and quality of life were improved in the intervention group with a statistically significant degree compared to the control group.Conclusions: Relaxation therapy improved depression, anxiety, stress, quality of life, and blood glucose levels among patients diagnosed with T2DM.Recommendation: Relaxation therapy, patient education programs and treatment protocols should be integrated into the medical outpatient clinic to assist patients diagnosed with T2DM to cope with their stress, anxiety, depression, and enhance blood glucose control.

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a costly, lifestyle-related disorder, its management is very critical and challenging hence lifestyle intervention may a cornerstone in the reversal and management of T2DM. This study designed to assess the impact of lifestyle intervention holistic (LIH) Model on blood glucose levels (BGL), Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL), and medical treatment cost in T2DM patients. This prospective, quasi-experimental study was conducted among 224 T2DM patients in Delhi Diabetes Research Center (DDRC), New Delhi. The study participants were allocated into two groups-Lifestyle Intervention Counseling (LIC) group received lifestyle-based counseling through the LIH model while the Usual-care group received only standard treatment. Study outcomes were assessed at baseline, 3rd, 6th, and 12th month and data were analyzed through SPSS. Study results revealed that LIC participants had decreased in fasting blood glucose 0.26 mg dL-1 (-4.37 to 4.89), blood glucose postprandial -70.16 mg dL-1 (-85.15 to - 55.16), HbA1C -2.82% (-5.26 to - 0.37), medicine cost (p < 0.004), hospitalization cost (p < 0.011), and cost of surgery (p < 0.0005). A significant improvement also observed in HRQOL and adherence towards a holistic model in LIC group. The study concludes that lifestyle-based counseling and its adherence was cost-effective and significantly improves BGL, HRQoL, and medical treatment in T2DM patients.


Glimepiride is an antidiabetic agent used for lowering blood glucose levels. It induces the activity of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR gamma). It lowers blood glucose levels by binding to ATP-sensitive potassium channel receptors on the surface of pancreatic cells. The purpose of this study was to perform a comparative analysis of different physicochemical parameters (weight variation, hardness, thickness, friability, disintegration time, and dissolution time) of 3 different commercially available brands of glimepiride in the market. Statistical analysis revealed minor variations in the results. It was found that GETRYL showed the highest % dissolution among all the 3 brands whereas AMARYL took the least time to disintegrate. According to the results of the friability test, Diabold shows the highest stability in the friabilator. However, all 3 brands complied with the official pharmacopoeial limits. The quality of the drug largely influences its therapeutic activity. Hence, owing to the similar physicochemical profile, all the 3 brands can be interchangeably used.
