<p>Tough times and tough measures taken by central government of India. India is under national lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic.It was difficult for common man in many ways to deal with lockdown. The basics of life food, fuel, transport was handicapped during lockdown phase. People in major cities and towns have sources of food availability in terms of continuous grocery supply from supermarket chains, food delivery chains. It was rural population of India that was more effected due to lockdown rather than urban population.The rural population of India sustained on food that was available in around houses and in the fields. Most of them went to fields and bought vegetables for their lunch and dinner. During this process people climbed trees and fell down causing major limb injuries. We present few scenarios of injury that occurred during lockdown of COVID-19 pandemic causing major limb fractures. Tough times and tough measures to control pandemic COVID-19 caused new problems for people in search of food and daily needs. These are some of those injuries which were able to document in these tough times.</p>

The climatic and sea ice conditions of the Southern Ocean are highly variable within and between years, and a better understanding of the influence of climatic conditions on the various parts of the marine food chain is needed. This paper summarizes data on breeding success of a krill-dependent predator, the Wilson's storm petrel Oceanites oceanicus, in a colony on King George Island, South Shetland Islands, Antarctica, over four breeding seasons from 1995/1996 to 1999/2000. The seasons differed greatly in environmental conditions and in the resulting food availability which was reflected in inter- and intra-annual variations in feeding frequency. The breeding success was consequently variable. Starvation, the main cause of chick mortality in three out of four breeding seasons was associated with reduced sea ice cover in winter, which is known to depress food availability in the following breeding season. Food delivery rates also depended on the prevailing winds, which drive the transport of zooplankton-rich water masses. Snowstorms caused additional chick mortality in two out of four seasons when nest burrows became blocked. Implications for the use of Wilson's storm petrels for monitoring of krill are considered.

This retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted to study consumers' perceptions of healthy food availability in online food delivery applications (OFD apps) among public university students in Malaysia and its association with their food choices. A total of 290 subjects aged 19–29 years old were recruited from 20 public universities in Malaysia via snowball sampling. Data was collected through an online questionnaire which consisted of socio-demographic status, use of OFD apps (most frequently used brand, usage frequency, food choice, and expenditure per transaction), factors affecting food choice in OFD apps, consumers' perceptions of healthy food availability in OFD apps and recommendation for improvements. The most frequently used apps among the subjects was Food Panda (46.6%), however, majority of the subjects in this study (41.4%) rarely used OFD apps. Also, most of the subjects ordered unhealthy food (77.6%) and spent up to RM15–RM19 for each transaction (43.1%). There was no significant difference between the use of OFD apps and gender (p &gt; 0.05). Among the five food choice motives, “price and convenience” motive was the most influencing food choice factor in OFD apps. Majority of the subjects (76.9%) had a negative perception of healthy food availability (variety, price, and quality of healthy food) in OFD apps. No significant association was found between consumers' perceptions of healthy food availability in OFD apps and their food choices made in OFD apps among the subjects in this study (p &gt; 0.05). Also, majority (85.9%) responded they are keen to purchase healthy foods through OFD apps if they are given an option. However, most Malaysian public university students perceived that there were not much variety of healthy food, of good quality and affordable price, available in OFD apps. This finding suggests that the online food environment in Malaysia are perceived as unhealthy. Future studies can explore the online food environment particularly its impact on community health and well-being. Public health professionals and policymakers need to address the online food environment issues as part of the obesogenic food environment in Malaysia especially when OFD is one of the most convenient service in this country.

Abstract Aim During the first peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the BOA recommended that upper limb surgery for trauma should be avoided if possible, or performed as day-case if unavoidable, to reduce the risk of COVID-19 related negative outcomes. This audit assessed compliance with recommendations and impact on proportion of injuries managed conservatively due to COVID-19 risks, inpatient stay duration, COVID-19 infections, and corrective surgical intervention rates. Method Data was collected for all referrals to orthopaedics for upper limb fractures/dislocations at a large NHS teaching hospital in the North West over a 10-week period from April 4th to June 12th. Follow up was performed to 6 months after date of injury. Care was audited against the “British Orthopaedic Association Standard in Trauma: Management of patient with urgent orthopaedic conditions and trauma during the coronavirus pandemic”. Results A total of 112 patients were referred. 76% of patients were discharged from Emergency Department, with surgery indicated in 48%. Of those, 11% (n = 6) were not operated on due to COVID-19 risks and 1 patient from this group (16.7%) has required secondary corrective surgery. Surgery was completed as day-case procedure in 50%. COVID-19 swabs were not taken in 46% of referrals, 50% had a negative test and 4% positive. No patients tested positive after discharge following treatment. Conclusions Few cases were managed conservatively based on COVID-19 risk, and only 1 patient has required secondary surgery. More upper limb injuries may be managed conservatively, as per BOAST standards, with day-case procedures better utilised as an alternative.

AbstractAimsLimb fractures are common in pre-hospital care and can be associated with significant haemorrhage and neurovascular compromise. The pre-hospital management of these injuries centres around reduction and splinting. The aim of this study was to quantify the effectiveness of pre-hospital reduction of displaced fractures or dislocations and the incidence of the need for further manipulation in the emergency department.MethodsA three-year retrospective database analysis was conducted for all patients sustaining limb injuries who were attended by a single air ambulance and subsequently conveyed to the regional major trauma centre. Only patients who received ketamine, either as an analgesic or sedative, were included. Pre-hospital clinical records and emergency department (ED) notes were examined to determine outcomes.ResultsOver the study period, 122 patients sustained a limb injury and received ketamine; ED notes were available for 96 (78.7%). Of these, the majority (n=51, 41.8%) received ketamine for analgesia with n=10 (8.2%) receiving it to facilitate manipulation. The principal indication for pre-hospital manipulation was neurovascular compromise (n=7, 70.0%). Of those undergoing manipulation pre-hospital, the majority (n=7, 70.0%) required further manipulation in the ED.ConclusionPre-hospital manipulation by our regional air ambulance is a relatively low frequency event and in those undergoing a manipulation, a high proportion require further intervention in the ED or operative intervention within the acute phase of care.

Abstract Objective: Food delivery apps represent an important and emerging dimension of the digital food environment. This study aimed to examine food availability and the use of marketing strategies by two food delivery apps in a Brazilian metropolis. Design: An exploratory study was conducted in the city of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Food groups were identified and the use of price discounts and photos by the apps was observed. Setting: Eighteen neighbourhoods and the ten best rated restaurants in each app. Participants: Three hundred sixty-two commercial food establishments. Results: The proportion of ultra-processed beverages on offer in the apps (78·45 %) was much higher in comparison with water (48·89 %), natural juices or smoothies (27·07 %). Ultra-processed ready-to-eat meals represented almost 70 % of the food offered in the establishments’ menus, while traditional meals and vegetables represented just over 30 % of the offering. Ice cream, candies and salty packaged snacks were nine times more frequently presented than fruits. The use of photos and price discounts prevailed predominantly among ultra-processed beverages, sandwiches and ice cream, candies and salty packaged snacks. These marketing strategies were least used for promoting fruits and vegetables. Conclusions: Restaurants registered on food delivery apps offered a significant amount of ultra-processed foods with price discounts and photos in comparison with unprocessed and minimally processed foods.

Two years ago, the central government launched the ‘Start-up India’ initiative to nurture innovation and entrepreneurship in the country, capturing the entrepreneurial spirit of the youth. The initiative promised to build an ecosystem conducive to scaling up start-up companies. The Start-up India action plan of the government is a very important step in strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the country. This article is an endeavour to portray the start-up ecosystem in India, which has also focused on the global best practices. The ecosystem for successful start-ups typically starts with proper mentorship with a mix of technological and directorial support. India has made a strong name for itself in the global start-up community and ranks among the top five countries in the world in terms of number of start-ups founded. It is estimated that the job creation from these entrepreneurs is likely to reach 250,000– 300,000 by 2020. The Indian food start-ups are now playing a pivotal role in accomplishing transformation, and trying and testing innovative technologies and business models. The innovations in this segment have been the result of improving technology in three segments: ordering food, food preparation and finally delivery. To seize the opportunity for the food industry, it is important to understand the dynamics around the start-up ecosystem. The challenges in the space are many, but it is heartening to see the passion and ability of the young start-ups who are working towards accomplishing their goals. The consolidation is the new mantra for food delivery companies, while quality will be the decisive factor, playing a catalytic role in the near future for health-conscious consumers.

The key idea of the well-being concept strives to answer the question about how well the needs of people in a society are met in different spheres of social life - the physical, economic, social, educational, environmental, emotional, and spiritual – as well as individuals’ evaluations of their own lives and the way that their society operates (Gilbert, Colley, Roberts, 2016). One of the possible suggestions for answering the question: “How well are the needs of people in a society met?” could be the monitoring of citizen’s satisfaction with public services while applying a standardized questionnaire for population covering 193 primary indicators (health, social security, culture, public transport, utilities, environment, recreation and sport, public communication, education, etc). Even 23 indicators are about education that makes educational services a considerable part of all social service system. As the researchers aimed to analyze satisfaction of rural population with public services stressing the education issue, indicators about education dominated in the survey. The data were collected in 2016 - 2017 in 2 regional municipalities: municipalities: Jonava and Radviliskis (N=2368). The results of the analysis demonstrate that rural residents' satisfaction with formal general education services is relatively high. The only negative exception is the "the placement of a child in a pre-school institution based on the place of residence". Furthermore, rural residents poorly evaluated educational services that are related to non-formal education, adult education, the education of children with disabilities, child safety, meaningful xtracurricular activities of children and young people during all day, preventive programs. These major conclusions let the researchers state that local self-governmental institutions are not capable to cope with the quality challenges of some educational services without special intervention policy of the central government and the EU responsible structural units. A negative impact is also reinforced by a rapidly deteriorating demographic situation in Lithuanian rural areas.

North American Thoroughbred racing is conducted on three types of surfaces—dirt, turf, and synthetic. The tracks are oval, and races are run counterclockwise. The loading on right and left limbs is expected to differ as a function of turn radius, banking, surface, and gait asymmetry. Hind limbs and forelimbs also have different functions related to propulsion and turning, respectively. This study uses the Equine Injury Database for race starts from 1 January 2009 through 31 December 2014, to compare injury rates across participating North American racetracks. The data are limited to catastrophic injuries in which horses died or were euthanized due to a fracture within 72 h of the start of the race. Overall injury rates were lower on turf and synthetic surfaces and the pattern of limb injuries in left vs. right and fore vs. hind limbs were different. Regardless of surface, forelimbs were more likely to fracture. Dirt surfaces showed higher rates of forelimb injuries compared to other surfaces, hind limbs were more likely to experience a fatal fracture on turf than on dirt. The left fore and right hind limbs were more likely to experience a fatal fracture but only on dirt surfaces.

Silicon is believed to be an almost perfectly brittle material with cleavage occurring on {111} planes. In such a material at room temperature cleavage is expected to occur prior to any dislocation nucleation. This behavior suggests that cleavage fracture may be used to produce usable flat surfaces. Attempts to show this have failed. Such fractures produced in semiconductor silicon tend to occur on planes of variable orientation resulting in surfaces with a poor surface finish. In order to learn more about the mechanisms involved in fracture of silicon we began a HREM study of hardness indent induced fractures in thin samples of oxidized silicon.Samples of single crystal silicon were oxidized in air for 100 hours at 1000°C. Two pieces of this material were glued together and 500 μm thick cross-section samples were cut from the combined piece. The cross-section samples were indented using a Vicker's microhardness tester to produce cracks. The cracks in the samples were preserved by thinning from the back side using a combination of mechanical grinding and ion milling.
