Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurological disease that progresses further over time. Individuals suffering from this condition have a deficiency of dopamine, a neurotransmitter found in the brain's nerve cells that is critical for coordinating body movement. In this study, a new approach is proposed for the diagnosis of PD. Common Average Reference (CAR), Median Common Average Reference (MCAR), and Weighted Common Average Reference (WCAR) methods were primarily utilized to eliminate noise from the multichannel recorded walking signals in the resulting PhysioNet dataset. Statistical features were obtained from the clean walking signals following the Local Binary Pattern (LBP) transformation application. Logistic Regression (LR), Random Forest (RF), and K-nearest neighbor (Knn) methods were utilized in the classification stage. A high success rate with a value of 92.96% was observed with Knn. It was also determined that signals on which foot and the signals obtained from which point of the sole of the foot were effective in PD diagnosis in the study. In light of the findings, it was observed that noise reduction methods increased the success rate of PD diagnosis.

Balinese character recognition is a technique to recognize feature or pattern of Balinese character. Feature of Balinese character is generated through feature extraction process. This research using handwritten Balinese character. Feature extraction is a process to obtain the feature of character. In this research, feature extraction process generated semantic and direction feature of handwritten Balinese character. Recognition is using K-Nearest Neighbor algorithm to recognize 81 handwritten Balinese character. The feature of Balinese character images tester are compared with reference features. Result of the recognition system with K=3 and reference=10 is achieved a success rate of 97,53%.

With the increasing aging population in modern society, falls as well as fall-induced injuries in elderly people become one of the major public health problems. This study proposes a classification framework that uses floor vibrations to detect fall events as well as distinguish different fall postures. A scaled 3D-printed model with twelve fully adjustable joints that can simulate human body movement was built to generate human fall data. The mass proportion of a human body takes was carefully studied and was reflected in the model. Object drops, human falling tests were carried out and the vibration signature generated in the floor was recorded for analyses. Machine learning algorithms including K-means algorithm and K nearest neighbor algorithm were introduced in the classification process. Three classifiers (human walking versus human fall, human fall versus object drop, human falls from different postures) were developed in this study. Results showed that the three proposed classifiers can achieve the accuracy of 100, 85, and 91%. This paper developed a framework of using floor vibration to build the pattern recognition system in detecting human falls based on a machine learning approach.

Along with the rapid advancement of technology development led to the amount of information available is also increasingly abundant. The aim of this study was to determine how the implementation of information retrieval system in the classification of the journal by using the cosine similarity and K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN).The data used as many as 160 documents with categories such as Physical Sciences and Engineering, Life Science, Health Science, and Social Sciences and Humanities. Construction stage begins with the use of text mining processing, the weighting of each token by using the term frequency-inverse document frequency (TF-IDF), calculate the degree of similarity of each document by using the cosine similarity and classification using k-Nearest Neighbor.Evaluation is done by using the testing documents as much as 20 documents, with a value of k = {37, 41, 43}. Evaluation system shows the level of success in classifying documents on the value of k = 43 with a value precision of 0501. System test results showed that 20 document testing used can be classified according to the actual category

The classification of Javanese character images is done with the aim of recognizing each character. The selected classification algorithm is K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) at K = 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9. To improve KNN performance in Javanese character written by the author, and to prove that feature extraction is needed in the process image classification of Javanese character. In this study selected Local Binary Patter (LBP) as a feature extraction because there are research objects with a certain level of slope. The LBP parameters are used between [16 16], [32 32], [64 64], [128 128], and [256 256]. Experiments were performed on 80 training drawings and 40 test images. KNN values after combination with LBP characteristic extraction were 82.5% at K = 3 and LBP parameters [64 64].

This chapter presents a new approach to clustering graphs, and applies it to Web graph display and navigation. The proposed approach takes advantage of the linkage patterns of graphs, and utilizes an affinity function in conjunction with the k-nearest neighbor. This chapter uses Web graph clustering as an illustrative example, and offers a potentially more applicable method to mine structural information from data sets, with the hope of informing readers of another aspect of data mining and its applications.

While the reconstruction of 3D objects is increasingly used today, the simplification of 3D point cloud, however, becomes a substantial phase in this process of reconstruction. This is due to the huge amounts of dense 3D point cloud produced by 3D scanning devices. In this paper, a new approach is proposed to simplify 3D point cloud based on k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) and clustering algorithm. Initially, 3D point cloud is divided into clusters using k-means algorithm. Then, an entropy estimation is performed for each cluster to remove the ones that have minimal entropy. In this paper, MATLAB is used to carry out the simulation, and the performance of our method is testified by test dataset. Numerous experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed simplification method of 3D point cloud.

This research presented a new approach for vehicle classification using roadside LiDAR sensor. Six features (one feature, object height profile, contains 10 sub-features) extracted from the vehicle trajectories were applied to distinguish different classes of vehicles. The vehicle classification aims to assign the objects into ten different types defined by FHWA. A database containing 1,056 manually marked samples and their corresponding pictures was provided for analysis. Those samples were collected at different scenarios (roads and intersections, different speed limits, day and night, different distance to LiDAR, etc.). Naïve Bayes, K-nearest neighbor classification, random forest (RF), and support vector machine were applied for vehicle classification. The results showed that the performance of different methods varied by class. RF has the highest overall accuracy among those investigated methods. Some types were merged together to serve different types of users, which can also improve the accuracy of vehicle classification. The validation indicated that the distance between the object and the roadside LiDAR can influence the accuracy. This research also provided the distribution of the overall accuracy of RF along the distance to LiDAR. For the VLP-16 LiDAR, to achieve an accuracy of 91.98%, the distance between the object and LiDAR should be less than 30 ft. Users can set up the location of the roadside LiDAR based on their own requirements of the classification accuracy.

Protein subcellular localization is an important research field of bioinformatics. In this paper, we use the algorithm of the increment of diversity combined with weighted K nearest neighbor to predict protein in SNL6 which has six subcelluar localizations and SNL9 which has nine subcelluar localizations. We use the increment of diversity to extract diversity finite coefficient as new features of proteins. And the basic classifier is weighted K-nearest neighbor. The prediction ability was evaluated by 5-jackknife cross-validation. Its predicted result is 83.3% for SNL6 and 87.6 % for SNL9. By comparing its results with other methods, it indicates the new approach is feasible and effective.
