The edge is the most significant information in image processing applications. Moreover, and the accurate and continue edge commonly leads to accurate related steps like object tracking and region clustering. In fact, it is the first step of image analysis and understanding. The accuracy edge detection results have an impact on the comprehension machine system. In this paper we present various improved edge detection techniques by our research team, of similar color and grey level images, using the information theory approach based on other energy information inspired from Shannon entropy and utilizing as well the metaheuristic and intelligent method combined with multilevel thresholding approach in various color spaces, and like the ant colony optimization with the graph cut approach for indexing images before the segmentation step. In addition, particular swarm optimization is done, and finally the fuzzy technique is used. The effectiveness and accuracy of these approaches are evaluated by many metric measurements and compared with the common operators. The PR metric, has a significant mean value (about 20) than PR of Canny operator (about 9). And also, we can denote that all improved techniques achieve significant results with ameliorated running time.

The paper presents a new approach of the eggshell geometry determination using and analysing the egg digital image and edge detection techniques. The detected points on the eggshell contour were fitted by the Fourier series. The obtained equations describing an egg profile were used to calculate the egg volume, surface area, and radius of curvature with much higher degree of precision in comparison with previously published approaches. The paper shows and quantifies the limitations of the common and frequent procedures.

The traditional Canny edge detection algorithm is analyzed in this paper. To overcome the difficulty of threshold selecting in Canny algorithm, an improved method based on Otsu algorithm and mathematical morphology is proposed to choose the threshold adaptively and simultaneously. This method applies the improved Canny operator and the image morphology separately to image edge detection, and then performs image fusion of the two results using the wavelet fusion technology to obtain the final edge-image. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better anti-noise ability and effectively enhances the accuracy of image edge detection.

In order to guarantee out-of-gauge freight transport safety, it is necessary to study digital measurement to improve measuring accuracy for out-of-gauge goods which is very difficult to master outline dimension. The process of edge detection and the algorithm of canny operator edge detection were introduced in this paper. Taking the transformer for example, contour extraction was carried out on the end and the widths of transverse and longitudinal height are measured through the mathematical software MATLAB. Finally, measurement results are validated based on the known data. The results showed that canny operator has high calculate precision, and the closer to the part calibrated with pixel calibration, smaller the measurement errors are.

In today’s world, accurate and fast information is vital for safe aircraft landings. The purpose of an EMAS (Engineered Materials Arresting System) is to prevent an aeroplane from overrunning with no human injury and minimal damage to the aircraft. Although various algorithms for object detection analysis have been developed, only a few researchers have examined image analysis as a landing assist. Image intensity edges are employed in one system to detect the sides of a runway in an image sequence, allowing the runway’s 3-dimensional position and orientation to be approximated. A fuzzy network system is used to improve object detection and extraction from aerial images. In another system, multi-scale, multiplatform imagery is used to combine physiologically and geometrically inspired algorithms for recognizing objects from hyper spectral and/or multispectral (HS/MS) imagery. However, the similarity in the top view of runways, buildings, highways, and other objects is a disadvantage of these methods. We propose a new method for detecting and tracking the runway based on pattern matching and texture analysis of digital images captured by aircraft cameras. Edge detection techniques are used to recognize runways from aerial images. The edge detection algorithms employed in this paper are the Hough Transform, Canny Filter, and Sobel Filter algorithms, which result in efficient detection.

Sweden's population is gradually changing to become more multiethnic and diverse and that applies also for recipients of health care, including childhood cancer care. A holistic view on the sick child in the context of its family has always been a cornerstone in childhood cancer care in Sweden. The purpose of this study was to gain knowledge about the experiences and main concern of foreign-born parents in the context of paediatric cancer care. Interviews were performed with eleven foreign-born parents and data were analysed using a classic grounded theory approach. Foreign-born parents often feel in a position of powerless dependence, but family interests are protected in their approaches to interaction with healthcare staff, through cooperation, contesting, and reluctant resigning. Healthcare staff need to listen to foreign-born parents and deal with their concerns seriously to prevent powerless-dependence and work for trustful cooperation in the common fight against childhood cancer.
