Objective: Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI) is one of the most widely used clinical tools in research studies and clinical settings. MCMI was revised 4 times and its last version was published in 2015. All previous versions of MCMI have been translated to Persian and validated and have been frequently used by Iranian clinicians or researchers. Thus, this study provides the Persian version of the last version of this popular inventory for clinical or research purposes. Method: The participants of this psychometric study were selected by combining purposeful and convenience sampling methods among inpatients and outpatients who referred to Roozbeh hospital from 2018 to 2019. After data screening by statistical methods and Validity Scales based on MCMI-IV profile, 400 participants’ profiles were analyzed to estimate the psychometric properties of the Persian Version of MCMI-IV. MCMI-IV, the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 (SCID5), and the Brief Symptoms Inventory (BSI) were used for clinical data gathering. Content Validity Ratio (CVR), Correlational Coefficients, Kappa Agreement, Spearman Brown Coefficient, and Cronbach Alpha were performed for data analysis. Results: According to the results of data analysis, the psychometric properties for MCMI-IV were estimated as follows: the content validity index (CVI, 0.29 to 0.99), criterion validity (0.13 to 0.40), convergent validity (-0.35 to 0.72), The Cronbach’s alpha for the personality scales was 0.48 to 0.90, the Spearman-Brown coefficient was from 0.49 to 0.90, and test-retest reliability was from 0.51 to 0.86. Conclusion: The psychometric properties of the Persian version of MCMI-IV, including validity and reliability indexes, are appropriate and in line with the findings of its original version.

Background: Assessment of the patient safety competency is necessary for the growth of nursing and safe care profession as well as evaluation of the nurses' educational needs. To this end, valid and reliable tools are required. Aim:The present study was conducted to determine psychometric properties of the Persian version of the patient safety competency self-evaluation (PSCSE) tool in Iranian psychiatric wards. Methods: All nurses (n = 209) working in two psychiatric hospitals of Kerman, Iran were included in the present cross-sectional study using census method. Followed by administering the Persian version of PSCSE to the participants, its internal consistency and reliability were assessed by test-retest method with an interval of 14 days. Other psychometric properties such as content, construct, and convergent validity of the tool were also examined. Results:The content validity index was 0.65 and the content validity ratio was 0.89. Item 14 was removed from the skill domain because it was not related to the psychiatric ward. According to the results of factor analysis, 40 items and three domains of knowledge (6 items), attitude (14 items), and skills (20 items) were confirmed with acceptable values. In terms of its convergent validity, PSCSE had a moderate correlation (r = 0.57) with the Assessment of the Safe Nursing Care (ASNC) scale. The correlation coefficient for test-retest was ICC = 0.92 for the whole instrument and 0.89, 0.89, and 0.92 for the domains of knowledge, attitude, and skill, respectively. The internal consistency coefficient (Cronbach's alpha) of the whole tool was 0.95 and 0.95, 0.79, and 0. 95 for the domains of knowledge, attitude, and skill, respectievly. Conclusion: Persian version of the nurses' competency tool in ensuring patient safety in psychiatric wards has acceptable psychometric characteristics. Background Even though tobacco is one of the most preventable causes of death worldwide, it endangers more than 8 million people yearly. In this context, meta-analyses suggest that a significant part of the general Iranian population over 15 years of age smoke and that there is a need for good screening tools for smoking cravings and urges in Iran. The present study reported the translation and investigated the psychometric properties (i.e., factor structure, validity, and reliability) of the Persian version of the Questionnaire on Smoking Urges (QSU) with 12 items in the Iranian context. Method The translation process and content validity of the items were examined entirely in an expert panel using the Content Validity Index. The total sample of participants in which the translated version was tested consisted of 392 (172 female, 220 male, Mage = 22.31 years, SD = 2.90) university students who answered the QSU 12-item at the start of their participation in smoking cessation interventions. The QSU 12-item was firstly translated, then piloted using a subsample of 150 university students and finally validity and reliability of the instrument were investigated using a subsample of 242 participants. We tested the proposed models in the literature, that is, a 1-factor solution and a 2-factor solution with six items on each factor (Factor 1: desire/intention to smoke; Factor 2: relief of negative affect or withdrawal symptoms and anticipation of positive outcome). At last, we tested differences across differences in QSU-scores across different subgroups of individuals based on their demographics. Results The results suggested that, in contrast to past studies, a modified 2-factor model, using five items for Factor 1 and 7 items for Factor 2, was the best fitting model (CFI = .95, RMSEA = .09, CI = 90%). Additionally, the QSU 12-item Persian version showed good convergent and divergent validity, internal consistency (Factor 1 = .94, Factor 2 = .97), ICC (average measure ICC = .95, CI = 95%, F(391, 4301) = 20.54, p < .001), concurrent validity (r = .71, p < .01), and discriminant validity (r = −.04, p > .05). Finally, subgroups based on gender, marital status, (un)employment, and educational level did not differed in their responses to the QSU 12-item. Conclusion The Persian version of the QSU 12-item has satisfactory psychometric properties and, with a slight modification, it can be considered as a reliable and valid method to estimate smoking urges in the Iranian population. Moreover, the QSU 12-item seems appropriate to measure urge for smoking among groups of individuals with different sociodemographic backgrounds. Importantly, the QSU 12-item differentiates individuals’ desire and intention to smoke from their anticipated relief of negative affect or withdrawal symptoms, which can be important for personalizing interventions targeting individuals who want to quit smoking.

Abstract Background:Although Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) is broadly used in clinical and research settings for assessing the disability level in patients with lumbar radiculopathy but it has not been translated into Urdu language according to the pre-established translation guidelines as well as the validity and reliability of ODI Urdu version has not been tested yet. The aim of this study was to translate ODI in native Urdu language (ODI-U) according to recommended guidelines and to measure its psychometric properties in Urdu speaking patients suffering from lumber radiculopathy. Methods: The ODI-U was developed through previously described translation procedures. 108 participants were recruited, out of which 54 were healthy and 54 were patients of lumber radiculopathy. ODI-U was filled by all participants. However, the patients were administered through ODI-U and visual analogue scales for disability (VAS disability) and pain intensity (VAS pain) at baseline and after 3 days. Reliability was investigated through test-retest method, internal consistency, standard error of measurement (SEM) and smallest detectable change (SDC) at 95% confidence level. ODI-U was assessed for exploratory factor analysis, construct (convergent and discriminative) validity and content validity. Alpha level <0.05 was considered statistically significant and psychometric standards were evaluated contrary to priori hypothesis.Results: The culturally adapted ODI-U revealed excellent test-retest reliability for total score (ICC=0.95) and for all item (ICC=0.72-0.98). Cronbach’s alpha of 0.89 showed excellent internal consistency and a moderate correlation between ODI-U total score and each item was observed through spearman’s correlation coefficient (r=0.51 to 0.76). One factor structure was created for ODI-U explaining 52.5% variance. There was no floor and ceiling effect of total ODI-U score showing good content validity. The discriminative validity was assessed by independent sample t-test which indicated significant difference in ODI-U total score between healthy and patients (P<0.001). The convergent validity was evaluated through Pearson’s correlation showing moderate correlation between ODI-U and VAS pain (r=0.49) as well as VAS disability (r=0.51).Conclusion: ODI-U showed adequate psychometric properties. ODI-U was found to be a reliable and a valid tool to measure the level of disability in Urdu-speaking patients with lumber radiculopathy.

The purposes of this study were to translate the English version of the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire into Persian and to examine its psychometric properties. Reliability was examined using Cronbach coefficient alpha and corrected item-total correlation. A confirmatory factor analysis, based on a five-factor model, was performed using AMOS. Consecutive samples of 194 drug addicts, 197 psychiatric patients, and 599 college students were selected for the study. The mean age of participants ( N= 1,000) was 24.8 yr. ( SD = 7.1), and 49% were female. The test-retest reliability coefficient and the internal consistency reliability coefficient for the whole scale were suitable. The Childhood Trauma Questionnaire exhibited acceptable convergent validity with the General Health Questionnaire. A four-factor solution was selected as the most appropriate model using exploratory principal component analysis with oblique rotation. In conclusion, the Persian version of the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire showed acceptable psychometric properties.

Background: A limited number of headache disability indices exist that can evaluate and manage different disabilities related to headache among Iranian patients. Objective: This study aimed to translate and validate the Persian version of the Henry Ford headache disability inventory (HDI). Methods: The original questionnaire was translated and culturally adapted to the Persian setting. A total of 250 patients with chronic headache were enrolled in this study. The questionnaire’s face validity, content validity, and convergent validity with Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) were evaluated and a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted. Its internal consistency was also assessed and its short- and long-term test-retest reliability were examined by intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Results: The content validity indices were 0.85, 0.99, and 0.97 for simplicity, relevance, and clarity, respectively. The content validity ratio was calculated as one for all items. The findings of CFA confirmed that this index had a good fit. Cronbach’s alpha was 0.91, 0.82, and 0.86 for the entire questionnaire as well as its functional and emotional subscales, respectively. The ICC was also calculated as 0.97 for the total inventory. The convergent validity showed significant negative correlations between HDI and short-form health survey items. Conclusion: The validity and reliability of the Persian version of the HDI were confirmed. This questionnaire can explore the disabilities of Persian-speaking people with headache disorders.

Abstract Background: Tayside children's sleep questionnaire (TCSQ) is a simple tool for screening the Disorders of Initiating and Maintaining Sleep among children aged between one and five years. In this study, we aimed to translate TCSQ into Persian and evaluate the validity and reliability of TCSQ among Persian speakers.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 311 children aged 1-5 years in Isfahan. After permission, the forward-backward translation method is used to develop the Persian version. Finally, 311 children participated in this survey, and 30 were repeated for a second time. Google Form, SPSS16, and STATA14 were used for data collection, descriptive statics, and factor analysis. BEARS questionnaire is used for convergent validity. Three expert opinions were used for content validity.Results: In this study, 404 mothers of children in Isfahan volunteered to participate in the survey, of which 311 remained. The mean and standard deviation age of their children was 3.47±1.91 years. Cronbach Alpha of the Persian version of TCSQ was 0.76 CI (0.78-0.66). The intra-class correlation coefficient was 0.67 CI (0.60-0.74). The content validity index was 0.88, and three factors (Disturbance, nighttime, parents) with a specific value greater than 0.4 is determined by factor analysis.Conclusions: The current study results indicate that TCSQ has good reliability and validity among Persian speakers.

Introduction: Modified Euro Quest questionnaire to assess neurological and psychiatric effects caused by exposure to organic solvents is used. This study investigates the validity, reliability, and usability of the modified Euro Quest questionnaire in Iran. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 206 workers of color and textile industries. Modified Euro Quest questionnaire was translated into Persian by using the forward-backward translation standard method. To evaluate the content validity, convergent validity, internal consistency, and reliability of the questionnaire were used the index CVI, Pearson correlation coefficient, Cronbach's alpha, and test-retest. The convergent validity was compared, results of the questionnaire, with results of mini-mental state examination (MMSE) and Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory (MFI). Results: The relationship between the modified Euroquest questionnaire was compare with the MMSE test and the MFI's questionnaire, Pearson correlation coefficients, and the results showed in order - 0.86 and 0.65, which represents a significant inverse correlation between this questionnaire with MMSE test(p>0.001) And a moderate correlation with the MFI's questionnaire(p>0.001). Content validity index (CVI) and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were obtained in order amounts of ≤0.79 and 0.92, which was acceptable. The final questionnaire, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, was calculated (α =0.84).  Conclusion: The modified Euroquest Persian version is a valuable tool to assess the neurological and psychological effects caused by exposure to organic solvents in Iranian workers.

Background: Traumatic events could be accompanied by positive personal and psychological changes. However, no scale is available to measure these aspects in patients with cancer. Accordingly, this study aimed at designing and evaluating the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory (P-TGI) in patients with cancer. Methods: According to the quantitative findings of our previous study, 9 items were added to the 21 items of P-TGI. After calculating the Content Validity Index (CVI) and Content Validity Ratio (CVR) coefficients, P-PTGI was finalized with 24 items. A total of 272 eligible patients with cancer who were referred to Shahid Ghazi Hospital in East Azerbaijan Province, Iran for follow-up treatment completed the P-PTGI. The instrument was assessed to determine its construct validity using various indices of Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and standardized lambda (λ) coefficient, followed by further assessment of the discriminant and convergent validities using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). LISREL and SPSS were used for data analysis. Results: According to the results of goodness-of-fit indicators, the 5-dimensional, 24-item P-PTGI model was acceptable. Considering that the values of average variance extracted (AVE=0.53-0.75) were greater than the square of correlation coefficients between the 5 dimensions of P-PTGI, discriminant validity was approved. The convergent validity of the tool was confirmed according to the high lambda standard coefficients (0.50-0.93) between items and their related factors. Additionally, alpha coefficients for 5 dimensions of P-PTGI ranged from 0.84 to 0.93 which confirmed the consistency of the tool. Conclusion: This study revealed that P-PTGI, with 24 items and 5 dimensions, is a valid and reliable tool for assessing PTG in Iranian patients with cancer.

The discriminative validity was measured by independent sample t-test, where significant difference between healthy and patients (P < 0.001) was observed. The convergent validity was evaluated through Pearson’s correlation showing moderate positive correlation of ODI-U with VAS pain (r = 0.49) and VAS disability (r = 0.51) but moderate negative correlation with all SF-36 domains (r = − 0.43to − 0.63). Conclusion ODI-U showed adequate psychometric properties. ODI-U was found to be a reliable and a valid tool to measure the level of disability in Urdu-speaking patients with lumber radiculopathy.

Objective: According to the family systems theory, triangulation is defined as reflecting and conveying the tension between two individuals to a third individual to reduce the existing tension, stress, and anxiety. This study was conducted to adapt the “Triangular Relationship Inventory” to Turkish and to assess psychometric properties. Method: The sample of the study included 337 individuals (234 women and 103 men) aged between 18 and 25 years. The structure validity of the inventory was evaluated with the confirmatory factor analysis and reliability was evaluated with Chronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficient, test–retest method, and item analyses. Results: The result showed that the Turkish form of the Triangular Relationship Inventory showed similar psychometric properties to the original inventory. The structure which consists of the balanced, mediator, cross-generational coalition, and scapegoat subdimensions of 24 items displayed acceptable goodness-of-fit values in the Turkish sample with the 0.91 Cronbach's alpha coefficient while the reliability values of the subdimensions changed between 0.86 and 0.91. Considering the convergent validity of the inventory, there was a negative correlation between the triangular relationship and satisfaction with life and the differentiation of self, and a significant positive correlation with depression, anxiety, and stress. Conclusion: The psychometric properties revealed in this study show that the Turkish form of the Triangular Relationship Inventory is a valid and reliable measurement tool that can be used to measure the triangulation levels and roles of the individuals, who are in the Turkish sample and between the ages of 18 and 25 years, within the family system.
