This paper explores the reasons for students to consider dropping out of school and choosing to work. It also assesses the benefits of marketing study programes with regards to the store clerk profession. This study employs qualitative design using phenomenology approach. The key subjects of this research were four vocational high school students in Blitar who had opted to leave school early. Data was extracted and explored using in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Triangulation of sources and methods was carried out to obtain accurate information, the analysis was carried out with the simultaneous stages of Approach, Excavation, Deepening, Matching, Interpretation and Presentation (6P). The results of this study demonstrate that the main reasons contributing to leaving school early are family background, environment, society, and the student’s experience during school. In addition, the vocational marketing study program gives students the requisite experience and skill sets to work as store clerks, further facilitating their decision to leave school early and start their professional careers. Abstract. In Indonesia, Vocational High Schools (VHSs) are designed to prepare graduates for a specific job. Selecting the types of English that suits the needs of vocational students is paramount importance to support their vocational skill in the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). This study aims to reveal: (1) Vocational High School (VHS) students’ English perceived needs, (2) VHS students’ career aspirations toward study program they are taking, (3) the effect of students’ perception of their English program (EGP and ESP) on their career aspirations, and (4) the differences in the students’ perception of their English program (EGP and ESP) by demographic variables (gender and study program). This was quantitative research in the form of a correlational study. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, multiple regression, and multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA). The findings indicated that:  (1) Most VHS students' English perceived need was ESP. Nevertheless, it was also undeniable that they also still needed EGP for their English before they took ESP. (2) Most VHS students did not have mature career aspirations related to the study program they were taking at vocational high school. (3) Furthermore, there was a significant effect of students' perception (EGP and ESP) on their career aspirations. (4) Regarding differences between male and female's perception of English program and differences in students’ study program, the results of this study revealed significant differences among them.                                                                                   Keywords: Career Aspiration, EGP, ESP, Perception

Vocational High School is course with aim to prepare the students to have specific skills by having practical activities based on its study program. It has the same purpose with English for specific purposes (ESP) course which aims to meet the students’ specific language need. ESP courses help students to use English appropriately as well as accurately to perform their jobs in a various situations where they encounter their English language function. ESP course often begins with the students’ need. Students’ need analysis is needed to be identified to be able to meet the effective learning material based on what the students really need. This study aims to investigate the writing materials needs of eleventh grade students of Office Administration study program in Vocational High School from viewpoints of students. This study used descriptive qualitative analysis with questionnaire and interview method to collect the data. The subjects of the research were eleventh grade of Office Administration students that consisted of 34 students by using purposive sampling. The result indicated that the students have several needs in terms of target needs and learning needs. Target needs are divided into necessities, wants, and lacks. Based on the result of target needs, the students are lack of component of writing skills including express ideas, write with correct organization, use correct grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling, and use appropriate vocabulary based on the context of the text. Thus, the students need and want to learn those components of writing skills. Meanwhile, learning needs are divided into input, procedure, setting, and accessibility. The input is divided into content of materials, activities, and design. The teachers should pay attention more on those aspects to fulfill the students’ need to help them transition successfully to their future careers after graduation.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh: (1) pembelajaran kewirausahaan melalui business center, (2) prakerin, (3) latar belakang keluarga, dan (4) pembelajaran kewirausahaan melalui business center, prakerin, dan latar belakang keluarga secara bersama-sama terhadap kompetensi berwirausaha. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian asosiatif kausal. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas XI SMK Negeri kelompok bismen di Kota Yogyakarta. Sampel sebanyak 221 siswa ditentukan menggunakan teknik random sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan dokumentasi dan angket. Data variabel dianalisis dengan statistik deskriptif. Pengaruh setiap variabel bebas terhadap variabel terikat dianalisis dengan statistik regresi sederhana dan regresi berganda. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: (1) pembelajaran kewirausahaan melalui business center berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kompetensi berwirausaha siswa SMK (0,000<0,05); (2) prakerin berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kompetensi berwirausaha siswa SMK (0,000<0,05); (3) latar belakang keluarga berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kompetensi berwirausaha siswa SMK (0,000<0,05); (4) pembelajaran kewirausahaan melalui business center, prakerin, dan latar belakang keluarga secara besama-sama berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kompetensi berwirausaha siswa SMK (0,000<0,05). THE EFFECT OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP TEACHING THROUGH A BUSINESS CENTRE, PRATICAL WORK, AND FAMILY BACKGROUND ON THE ENTREPRENEURSHIP COMPETENCEAbstractThis research is aimed to reveal the effect of: (1) entrepreneurship teaching through business centre; (2) practical work; (3) family background; (4) entrepreneurship teaching through a business centre, practical work, and family background on the entrepreneurship competence. This is an associative causal research. The population was all graduate XI students of state vocational high school of business and management group in Yogyakarta City. A sample of 221 students was established using the proportional random sampling technique. The data were collected through documentation and questionnaire. The variable data were analyzed using the descriptive statistics. The effect of each independent variable on the dependent variable was analyzed using the simple and multiple regression statistics. The result of the research shows that: (1) entrepreneurship teaching through business centre gives a positive and significant effect on vocational high school students’ entrepreneurship competence (0.000<0.05); (2) practical work gives a positive and significant effect on vocational high school students’ entrepreneurship competence (0.000<0.05); (3) family background gives a positive and significant effect on vocational high school students’ entrepreneurship competence (0.000<0.05); (4) entrepreneurship teaching through business centre, practical work, and family background provide a positive and significant effect on vocational high school students’ entrepreneurship competence (0.000 < 0.05).

Students who have graduated from high school or vocational high school will continue to a higher level such as Samarinda State Polytechnic. Samarinda State Polytechnic consists of several Departments including Information Technology majors. The Information Technology Department has 4 Study Programs including; D3 Informatics Engineering, D3 Computer Engineering, D4 Multimedia Information Technology and D4 Computer Technology Engineering. This research was conducted by classifying specialization of students who would continue their studies to the Department of Information Technology, Polytechnic State of Samarinda. Source data obtained from questionnaire. Data collection was carried out by questionnaire method, the questionnaire consisted of 15 questions and had 5 criteria. Each criterion has 3 questions. The questionnaire was distributed to 160 high school and vocational high school students in the city of Samarinda, East Kalimantan. Clusters in this study are divided into 4, namely cluster 1, an interest in the D3 Study Program in Information Engineering, cluster 2 an interest in the D3 Study Program in Computer Engineering, cluster 3 an interest in the D4 Study Program in Multimedia Information Technology and cluster 4 an interest in D4 in Computer Engineering Technology. Fuzzy C-Means method is used in solving these problems where the results of grouping cluster 1 consists of 41 students, cluster 2 consists of 46 students, cluster 3 consists of 21 students, cluster 4 has 52 students. The average MAPE percentage for the whole cluster is 27.07%.
