Small and Medium Enterprises (SMES) play an important role in economic growth throughout the world. The objective of this study is to determine and analyze the impact of entrepreneurial orientation and organizational commitment in SMES as a form of improvement in business performance in Indonesia. This study uses a quantitative approach with the survey method of 6,708 SMES who have a business license. This study will be taken 200 samples, with a random backup technique of 10%, spread across 17 districts. Analysis of technical data in this study uses structural equations modeling (SEM) using AMOS Software. The results of the study is similar with the empirical data received. The result of the entrepreneurship orientation tests is partially proved positive and significant effect on the organizational commitment performance. Entrepreneurial orientation variables are not proven as positive and significantly in improving the SME performance. Organizational commitments are not proven as positive and significant effect on SME performance. Entrepreneurial orientation does not prove to be an intermediary between organizational commitment variables in SME performance. Through the empirical analysis and test of 2106 valid questionnaires of employees of small and medium enterprises(SMEs) in China, the article presents the influence mechanism of the sense of fairness of salary distribution on employees' turnover intention based on the cross angle of internal and external factors. The theory of organizational commitment and perception of external job opportunities was introduced and applied AMOS 22.0 to conduct confirmatory factor analysis on the scale. Then applies SPSS 23.0 to establish a hierarchical linear regression model to analyze the impact of the fairness of salary distribution on turnover intention and analyze organizational commitment and the mediating and regulating role of external job opportunities. The results indicate that the sense of fairness in salary distribution and organizational commitment can effectively reduce employees' turnover intention, and employees' perceived external job opportunities moderate this inhibition.

The business performance is influenced by various factors such as marketing strategy and production factor. Both have important roles to improve business performance. However, the number of Troso weaving cloth decreased gradually from 2013 up to 2016. This study aims at knowing the impact of marketing strategy and production factor to the performance of small and medium enterprises on Troso weaving cloth simultaneously and partially.  The population was 180 owners of Troso weaving cloth with the sample of 64. The sample was determined by using proportionate random sampling. Then, the variables for this study consist of independent variables that are marketing strategy (X1) and production (X2) factor; and dependent variable that is business performance (Y). Based on the percentage descriptive analysis. The marketing strategy variable has influence as many as 73% with good category, while the production factor influences business performance, 61% with the moderate category. This study has found that marketing strategy and production factor have positive and significant impact partially and simultaneously to the business performance of small and medium enterprises on Troso weaving cloth.

The main objective of this chapter is to analyze the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and competitive advantage on Portuguese exporting textiles small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Therefore, a quantitative methodological approach was used, conducting a descriptive, exploratory, and transversal empirical study, having applied a questionnaire to a sample of Portuguese SMEs, associated of the Portuguese textile association (ATP). The structural equations model was used for this purpose, using the partial least squares (PLS). Based on survey data from 247 firms, the empirical results indicate that 1) innovation have a positive and significant impact on differentiation, 2) proactivity and risk-taking does not have a positive and significant impact on differentiation, and 3) innovation, proactivity, and risk-taking does not have a positive and significant impact on cost leadership. This study shows that Portuguese textile SMEs seek to support and stimulate new ideas, experimentation, and creativity that surely result in new products, services, and processes.

This paper aims to develop the role of internal factors, external factors, and risk management variables on MSMEs’ business performance. This research was conducted in underdeveloped regions of five provinces, which includes 14 cities in Indonesia—East Java, West Sumatra, North Sumatra, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara. The Resource-based view and Market-based view methods were chosen to measure 1401 data of MSMEs. The data was collected using offline questionnaires then processed using SPSS. This paper demonstrates a remarkable outcome for MSMEs, showing the significant result of risk management factors that includes risk assessment of marketing and financial management. Other independent variables of internal, external, and risk management factors also show important outcomes on MSMEs performance. This paper offers additional value of the implementation of ERM in MSMEs, which are spread in underdeveloped regions in Indonesia. The findings shown that the activity of the enterprises in identifying and managing risk would bring up the significant effect on operational business performances.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to identify the factors, such as the different strategies adopted and the size of the company, that have a significant determining impact on the financial performance of companies in extreme circumstances.Design/methodology/approachThe research target of this paper is the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Hong Kong. This is quantitative research and it is done on a survey basis, which includes hypothesis setting and statistical analysis. In addition, constructive suggestions are given to companies after analyzing the current situation.FindingsIn total, ten factors from four dimensions are determined as the critical strategies for the company to adopt in an uncertain financial situation. The result shows the influence of different factors on return on investment for the companies with different backgrounds.Practical implicationsThe business environment today is full of turbulence and uncertainties; this, along with the fierce global competition, means that manufacturers are all struggling to survive. The financial tsunami that has swept across the global economy is believed to be the most catastrophic in living memory. Therefore, this research will be especially valuable and useful to companies which wish to achieve excellence in business performance in spite of such a global disaster.Originality/valueManufacturers worldwide have suffered badly from the impact of the financial tsunami. The SMEs in Hong Kong are certainly not an exception. However, under the same adverse conditions, some have been able to maintain their stability or even thrive. The findings suggest some specific corporate strategies which will enable companies to survive and remain competitive.

The research of factors that determine the performance improvement of small and medium enterprises in Jakarta is based on the background of increasing small and medium enterprises sector in Jakarta. The benefits of this study are to find out what factors are most influential on the performance of small and medium enterprises in Jakarta. The authors took a number of 200 samples of small and medium enterprises in Jakarta, and the research data analysis technique is multiple regression with Structural Equation Modelling IBM SPSS Amos version 23. The results of respondents who answered the questions were dominated by respondents with a high school education background 152 people (76%), with ages ranging between 41–50 years 117 people (58.5%), and having income turnover above 90 million rupiah per month 122 people (61%), so it can be categorized that the majority of small and medium business entrepreneurs are educated in high school and are still in the productive age range. The results showed that the Business/Product Innovation, Business Competence, Business Capital, and Population had a significant effect on Business Performance, while variables Environmental Factors have no significant effect on Business Performance.
