Introduction: In recent decades, a significant increase has been observed in the average weight of people due to fast food consumption, which increases the risk of developing diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Given the importance of this issue, this study was conducted to investigate the predictors of fast food consumption based on the Prototype/Willingness Model   among students the School of Public Health in Rafsanjan City. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 129 students from Rafsanjan School of Public Health were studied using the census method. The data were collected using a researcher-made   questionnaire by self-report. Data analysis was conducted using the SPSS  version 20 and statistical tests of correlation and regression analysis. Results: According to the Prototype/Willingness Model, the mean and standard deviations of the attitude, positive perceptions, tendencies to fast food consumption, intention to not consume fast food, and negative mental norms about fast food consumption were 13.76±3.61, 17± 4.35, 7.4 ±1.58, 6.27± 4.19, and 7± 3.11, respectively. Considering the scores of the Prototype/Willingness Model, the attitude construct had the best score with 68.8% of the total attainable score. Based on the results of the correlations, a significant positive correlation was found between  the intention  to  avoid consuming fast food and negative subjective norms to fast food consumption. Moreover, a  significant negative correlation was observed between the constructs of attitude, positive images, and willingness to fast food consumption. Linear regression analysis showed that all constructs of the studied model  could predict  0.40% of the variance in the intention to avoid consuming  fast food. In this regard, the  negative subjective norms to fast food consumption  was strongest construct. Conclusion: Subjective norm is defined as one's important individuals' belief about performing a behavior . Thus, subjective norms changes in the negative direction towards consuming fast foods is effective based on  the Prototype/Willingness Model.

Background: Consumption of fast food, as a consequence of the modern industrial society, has increased in recent years among teenagers and young people. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of fast food consumption on female students in Yazd University of Medical Sciences based on the Prototype/Willingness Model. Methods: In this descriptive-analytic study, 245 female dormitory students were selected from Yazd University of Medical Sciences by stratified sampling from six dorms. Data were collected using a valid, reliable, and self-reporting questionnaire including demographic information and constructs of Prototype/Willingness Model. To analyze the data, correlation, regression, and ANOVA were applied using SPSS18. Results: Participants' maximum scores of intention with regard to non-consumption of fast foods, subjective norms, attitude, willingness, and prototype were 57, 53, 51, 67.5, and 66.2 percent, respectively. Intention to non-consumption of fast foods had a positive significant correlation with subjective norms, attitude, willingness, and prototype of fast food consumption. The combination of attitude and subjective norms accounted for 0.17 percent of the variance in intention. Moreover, attitude was the most significant predictor of intention (β = 0.38). Conclusion: According to the predictability of attitudes towards behavioral intention about fast food consumption, the individuals' negative attitudes should be enhanced towards fast food consumption in designing education programs for youth.

 Background: The incessant promotion of fast food make a perception that fast food is a trend among teenager.  Fast food consumption habits that have high calorie but low nutrients will causes nutritional problems in adolescents. Objectives: The purpose of this study aimed to determine effect of nutritional education based on theory of planned behavior to change knowledge, attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, intention, and limited fast food consumption among female students in Sidoarjo. Methods: This study was interventional quasi-experimental research. 32 female students (each 16 female students for interventional group and 16 female students for control group), were selected by simple random sampling. The education was provided based on theory of planned behavior in four sessions. The researcher-made questionnaire based on theory of planned behavior used for data collection.The questionnaire was completed by the students twice, before and three weeks after the implementation of nutritional education. Data were analyze using descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney, and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks. Result: The results of this study show nutrition education based on theory of planned behavior influence knowledge (p<0.001), attitude (p<0.001), subjective norms (p=0.002), perceived behavioral control (p<0.001),intention (p<0.001), but doesn’t influence limited fast food consumption (p=0.570). Conclusion: Nutritional education based on the theory of planned behavior influence knowledge, attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and intention, but not effect to limited fast food consumption. So, nutrition education designed based on TPB effective to be implementation of health promotion.ABSTRAK Latarbelakang: Gencarnya promosi fast food  menimbulkan persepsi bahwa makanan cepat saji merupakan tren dikalangan remaja. Kebiasaan konsumsi makanan cepat saji yang mempunyai tinggi kalori namun rendah zat gizi menimbulkan masalah gizi lebih dan defisiensi zat gizi mikro pada remaja.Tujuan: Tujuan penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pendidikan gizi berbasis Theory of Planned Behavior terhadap perubahan pengetahuan, sikap, norma subyektif, perceived behavioral control, intensi, dan konsumsi membatasi fast food pada siswi di SMA Negeri 2 Sidoarjo.  Metode: Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan metode quasy experimental pada 32 siswi (16 siswi kelompok kontrol dan 16 siswi kelompok perlakuan) dipilih menggunakan simple random sampling. Pendidikan gizi berbasis TPB dilakukan selama 4 sesi yiatu sesi sikap, norma subyektif, PBC, dan intensi. Kuesioner penelitian yang digunakan untuk meneliti berbasis TPB. Penilaian dilakukan dua kali, yaitu sebelum dan 3 minggu setelah edukasi. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif, uji Mann Whitney dan Wilcoxon Signed Ranks.Hasil: Berdasarkan hasil penelitian bahwa pendidikan gizi berbasis theory of planned behavior mempengaruhi pengetahuan (p<0,001), sikap (p<0,001), norma subyektif (p<0,002),  perceived behavioral control (p<0,001), dan intensi (p<0,001) tetapi tidak mempengaruhi perilaku siswi untuk membatasi fast food (p=0,570).Kesimpulan: Pendidikan gizi berbasis TPB dapat mempengaruhi sikap, norma subyektif, PBC, dan intensi tetapi tidak merubah perilaku membatasi fast food. Dengan demikian maka diperlukan pendidikan gizi yang berkelanjutan agar dapat merubah suatu perilaku pembatasan fast food.

Background and Purpose: University students are young and are thus at a critical period of adopting healthy behaviors. Their life-style exposes them to a high rate of consuming fast food. In the long run, they are faced with higher chances of obesity and risk of affliction with diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. The present research aims to explore university students’ attitude towards fast food consumption based in the Prototype/Willingness model. Materials and methods: The present research followed a qualitative approach and a directed content analysis in 2018-19 among students affiliated with Rafsanjan universities. The participants were selected through purposeful sampling. A semi-structured interview was held with 20 students and it went on until data satiation occurred. The qualitative content analysis was done through Graneheim and Lundman method. Results: Analysis of university students’ experience of fast food consumption led to the extraction of 2 categories, 16 sub-categories and 65 final codes. The main theme was attitude for which the following subcategories were extracted: pleasure in consumption, fast preparation, inability to cook, lethargy, low cost, inadequate monitoring, Indulgence, bringing excuses, lack of knowledge, optimism in one’s health, consumeristic media, disorganized student life. For the negative attitude category, the following sub-categories were considered: attempts to provide healthy food, hated to fast food consumption, creation of a healthy supportive atmosphere by the family, bad experiences, perceived threat and perceived consequences. Conclusion: Knowledge of positive and negative attitudes would help program designers to contrive of the best preventive strategy focused on the adjustment of positive attitudes and reinforcement of negative attitudes to fast food consumption.

<p>This study aimed to assess the association between the frequency of fast food consumption in the past week with emotional and behavioural problems of 624 overweight and obese adolescents (mean age = 14.6). Frequency of fast food consumption was assessed through a pre-tested nutritional knowledge, attitude and practice questionnaire. Meanwhile, the Youth Self-Report questionnaire was used to measure emotional and behavioural problems. Spearman’s rank-order correlation was used to measure the strength of relationships. Positive associations that are statistically significant were found between frequency of fast food consumption and syndromes of anxious/depressed (rs=0.082, p<0.05), somatic complaints (rs=0.139, p<0.01), social problems (rs=0.115, p <0.01), thought problems (rs=0.118, p<0.01), attention problems (rs=0.125, p<0.01), rule-breaking behaviour (rs=0.144, p<0.001), and aggressive behaviour (rs=0.168, p<0.001). There were also differences found in the associations based on gender, locality of schools and ethnicity. Therefore, adolescents should be discouraged from consuming fast food as much as possible.</p>

AbstractObjective:To examine demographic and behavioural correlates of frequent consumption of fast food among Australian secondary school students and explore the associations between fast food consumption and social/environmental factors.Design:Cross-sectional survey using a web-based self-report questionnaire.Setting:Secondary schools across all Australian states and territories.Participants:Students aged 12–17 years participating in the 2012–2013 National Secondary Students’ Diet and Activity survey (n 8392).Results:Overall, 38 % of students surveyed reported consuming fast food at least weekly. Being male, residing in lower socio-economic areas and metropolitan locations, having more weekly spending money and working at a fast food outlet were all independently associated with consuming fast food once a week or more, as were several unhealthy eating (low vegetable intake and high sugary drink and snack food intake) and leisure (low physical activity and higher commercial television viewing) behaviours and short sleep duration. Frequent fast food consumption and measured weight status were unrelated. Students who agreed they go to fast food outlets with their family and friends were more likely to report consuming fast food at least weekly, as were those who usually ‘upsize’ their fast food meals and believe fast food is good value for money.Conclusions:These results suggest that frequent fast food consumption clusters with other unhealthy behaviours. Policy and educational interventions that reach identified at-risk groups are needed to reduce adolescent fast food consumption at the population level. Policies placing restrictions on the portion sizes of fast food may also help adolescents limit their intake.

Objective. This study was conducted to identify some factors (beliefs and norms) which are related to fast food consumption among high school students in Isfahan, Iran. We used the framework of the theory planned behavior (TPB) to predict this behavior.Subjects & Methods. Cross-sectional data were available from high school students who were recruited by cluster randomized sampling. All of the students completed a questionnaire assessing variables of standard TPB model including attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavior control (PBC), and the additional variables past behavior, actual behavior control (ABC).Results. The TPB variables explained 25.7% of the variance in intentions with positive attitude as the strongest (, ) and subjective norms as the weakest (, ) determinant. Concurrently, intentions accounted for 6% of the variance for fast food consumption. Past behavior and ABC accounted for an additional amount of 20.4% of the variance in fast food consumption.Conclusion. Overall, the present study suggests that the TPB model is useful in predicting related beliefs and norms to the fast food consumption among adolescents. Subjective norms in TPB model and past behavior in TPB model with additional variables (past behavior and actual behavior control) were the most powerful predictors of fast food consumption. Therefore, TPB model may be a useful framework for planning intervention programs to reduce fast food consumption by students.

Consumption of takeaway and fast food by young adolescents is no longer confined to the developed countries; it has spread to the developing countries as well. The culture of fast food consumption has replaced the traditional meal among university students and is a great public health concern. Excessive consumption of fast food is responsible for obesity epidemics and the cause of a dramatic increase of obesity-related diseases (e.g. diabetes, heart diseases etc). A cross-sectional study was carried out from March to April, 2013 among students attending in four established private universities of Bangladesh situated in Dhanmondi, Dhaka: Daffodil International University, United International University, World University of Bangladesh, and State University of Bangladesh. The aim of the present study was to examine the preference, prevalence and pattern of fast food consumption among the students. The prevalence of fast food consumption among those students was 98.5%, and 43.3% of their pocket money was spent on its purchase. The important factors for the preference of fast food include good taste, easy accessibility, increased convenience, and pocket friendly in nature. Approximately 22% of the respondents mentioned that they consumed fast food 4 days per week and more than one-fifth had the meal every day. Fifty four percent of the respondents skipped their breakfast due to a variety of reasons including class pressure and had fast food after fin-ishing their classes, either from varsity canteens or other fast-food outlets. Though 98% of the students were well informed about the negative effects associated with excessive fast food consumption, they were still profoundly ad-dicted to it. Specific health education programs, dietary guidelines and effective public awareness campaigns could be initiated to address the unhealthy lifestyle of university students and improve their health. Background: Most women in Indonesia have experienced dysmenorrhea (54.89%). One of the factors that influence dysmenorrhea is low preventive measures carried out by women such as lack of exercise activity, genetic background, and consumption of fast food. Purpose: This study aims to analyze the correlation between exercise activity, genetic background, and fast food consumption and dysmenorrhea. Method: This study was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional research design. The research population included the students of Public Health Faculty who had menstruated. The samples were 108 respondents chosen by random sampling technique. The variables examined in this study were genetic background, exercise activity, and fast food consumption and the occurrence of dysmenorrhea. Data collection was carried out in February 2019. The research location was at the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya. The data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis based on the chi-square test results. Result: The prevalence of dysmenorrhea experienced by students of Public Health Faculty was 65.70%. The test results showed no correlation between exercise activity and dysmenorrhea (p = 0.47), there was a correlation between dysmenorrhea and genetic background (p = 0.01) and there was no correlation between consumption of fast food and dysmenorrhea (p = 0.53). Conclusion: The study shows the there is a correlation between genetic background and dysmenorrhea. On the other hand, there is no correlation between exercise activity and the consumption of fast food with the occurrence of dysmenorrhea.
