Four experiments were aimed at elucidating some aspects of the preference for facelike patterns in newborns. Experiment 1 showed a preference for a stimulus whose components were located in the correct arrangement for a human face. Experiment 2 showed a preference for stimuli that had optimal sensory properties for the newborn visual system. Experiment 3 showed that babies directed their attention to a facelike pattern even when it was presented simultaneously with a non-facelike stimulus with optimal sensory properties. Experiment 4 showed the preference for facelike patterns in the temporal hemifield but not in the nasal hemifield. It was concluded that newborns' preference for facelike patterns reflects the activity of a subcortical system which is sensitive to the structural properties of the stimulus.

With the continuous development of engineering education accreditation in China, its concept has had a profound impact on the reform of various majors in higher education. Using the idea of engineering education accreditation, this paper discusses the main problems in the implementation of embedded experimental courses of electronic information majors and proposes related education reform programs. Taking the embedded system experiment course of the automation major and embedded system major of Zhengzhou University as examples, the course has carried out research on the aspects of teaching model, experimental course content, scientific assessment method, etc., and proposed corresponding improvement methods to achieve better effect. The practical operation result has proved that the embedded system experiment course of the automation major and embedded system major improved the students’ ability and met the requirements of professional accreditation.

The stability of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) during actual flight conditions is one parameter that is very important in systems design in Avionics. In this research, two sensors, the autopilot microcontroller and the smartphone gyroscope sensing mechanism, are fused together and calibrated to monitor the flying behavior of the UAV prior to actual test flights. The two fused sensors and installed inside the UAV for relatively increased sensing accuracy and best flight monitoring capabilities. A Kalman filter is used as fusion technique and a Stewart Motion tracker is also used to test the ruggedness and accuracy of the fused sensor system. Experiment results show that fused system can give an overall mean square error or 1.9729.

AbstractThe dynamic optimal interpolation (DOI) method merges altimetric sea surface height (SSH) data into maps that are continuous in time and space. Unlike the traditional linear optimal interpolation (LOI) method, DOI has the advantage of considering a nonlinear temporal propagation of the SSH field. DOI has been successfully applied to along-track pseudo-observations in observing system simulation experiments (OSSEs), demonstrating a reduction in interpolation error in highly turbulent regions compared to LOI mapping. In the present study, we further extend the validation of the DOI method by an observing system experiment (OSE). We applied and validated the DOI approach with real nadir-altimetric observations in four regional configurations. Overall, the qualitative and quantitative assessments of these realistic SSH maps confirm the higher level of performance of the DOI approach in turbulent regions. It is more of a challenge to outperform the conventional LOI mapping in coastal and low-energy regions. Validations against LOI maps distributed by the Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service indicate a 10%–15% increase in average performance and an improved resolution limit toward shorter wavelengths. The DOI method also shows improved mesoscale mapping of intense jets and fronts and reveals new eddies with smoother trajectories.

The aim of this study was to asses the effect of temperature cumulation on milk yield of Czech Fleckvieh‑Simmental cattle. Experiment for this study was executed on private farm in Czech Republic with permanently open‑sided barn, in which were cows stabled (49°12′36.7″N 16°23′42.1″E). Cows were stabled in free stall box system. Experiment lasted three months (May–July) of 2016. In total 114 cows were include in this study. They were divided according to yield to three groups: more than 25 kg of milk per day, 20.1–24.9 kg of milk per day and less than 20 kg of milk per day. The data loggers placed inside the stable collected data about temperature every 30 minutes. Data about milk yield were obtained from software in milk parlour. After data were collected, the sum of effective temperatures (SET) was calculated. The SET was calculated for temperatures surpassing 21 °C. Data shows that all groups were affected by rising SET. The group with yield above 25 kg of milk per day was the most affected by the high SET (r = −0.4931) in contrary with the group with less than 20 kg of milk per day (r = −0.1380). Our result suggest, that the SET might be better marker for evaluation of the impact of heat stress than temperature itself. The results of this paper also shows, that the high‑yield cows are affected by cumulation of temperature more.

This paper analyses the key point of energy saving in the Wheeled Crane hybrid power system. The scheme of 25T Wheeled Crane hybrid power system is designed based on supercapacitor. DSP, PLC and Touch panel is used as the control center of the system. The design of main circuit, measurement system, PLC system and system communication and coordinate control is discussed. Finally, main circuit and system experiment results are presented. Experiment shows that this system may save energy 30% or above.
