The aim of this research is to identify and analyse the causes that have influenced the total number of student places and career paths of graduates of a sports-program high school. In this sociological research, the case study method was used, which had in the foreground the Sports Program Suceava High school, from Romania. The sampling comprised the high school grade students (XI-XII), registered from September 2015 to August 2019. The objectives of the study are to determine the main variables that have generated major changes in the total number of student places’ architecture and in graduate career choices. Socio-economic causes and educational policies justify the high flow of requests for transfer from this high school to other educational establishments, especially in the first year of training (IXth grade), but also to the school unit under consideration (frequent requests in the XIth grade). Unsustainable education policies, in relation to the requirements and exigencies of sport performance, but also the permissive legislation on operational transfer procedures, have a bearing on sporting performance, graduate career paths and, last but not least, on the ethical code (or it should have it) a sports-program high school. The psycho-intellectual development and psycho-behavioural development of sports students in an accessible school environment, tenderer and adapted to his own needs, can only be achieved through a continuous effort, in conjunction with a joint effort between school-parents-local authorities and institutions with legislative leverage.

Elsewhere we have documented how conflict between adolescents in the streets shapes conflict in the schools. Here we consider the impact of street codes on the culture and environment of the schools themselves, and the effect of this culture and on the students’ commitment and determination to participate in their own education. We present the high school experiences of first–generation immigrants and African American students, distinguishing between belief in education and commitment to school. In an environment characterized by ineffective control and nonengaging classes, often students are not socialized around academic values and goals. Students need to develop strategies to remain committed to education while surviving day to day in an unsafe, academically limited school environment. These processes are sometimes seen as minority “resistance” to educational norms. Instead, our data suggest that the nature of the schools in which minority students find themselves has a greater influence on sustaining or dissuading students’ commitment to education than do their immigration status or cultural backgrounds.

This study aims to analyze and test empirically: the effect of costs and the school environment on the decision to choose a school through the school's image at Insan Cendekia Mandiri Junior High School, Sidoarjo. This research uses a quantitative approach with the type of causality research. The population in this study were 295 parents of students, with a total sample of 75 people who were taken by accidental sampling. The data analysis technique was performed using inferential statistics consisting of path analysis, classical assumption test, model feasibility test and hypothesis testing. The results showed that first, school fees have a significant effect on the decision to choose a school at SMP Insan Cendekia Mandiri Sarirogo Sidoarjo. Second, the school environment has a significant effect on the decision to choose a school at Insan Cendekia Mandiri Middle School, Sidoarjo. Third, school fees have no significant effect on the decision to choose a school through the image of the school at Insan Cendekia Mandiri Junior High School, Sidoarjo. And fourth, the school environment has no significant effect on the decision to choose a school through the image of the school at Insan Cendekia Mandiri Junior High School, Sidoarjo.

The experiences of Queer people in the Intermountain-West are under- documented by the scientific community. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. It was responsible for more than 47,500 deaths in 2019. Members of the Queer community have higher rates of suicidal ideation and attempts than the general population. Theoretically, we may predict that people experience negative mental health outcomes under situations of reduced social contact and support or during periods of exclusion by conspecifics. My research explores mental health in the Queer community utilizing data collected in an online survey during the COVID-19 pandemic. With a sample size of 147 participants from the intermountain west, this study examines whether rates of suicidal ideation and behavior are influenced by a person’s high school experience. Specifically, I investigate effects of experienced positive curriculum related to Queer identities, supportive teachers, status of protection under the law, and the impact of COVID-19, particularly related to a lack of pride festivals. Statistical analysis found that mental health declined during the pandemic, and when sexual and gender identity are included in anti-discrimination laws Queer people’s mental health improves. These findings are supported in the high school environment as well. People who heard anti- Queer had five times the odds of engaging in suicidal behaviors. Access to a supportive community improves mental health and suggests that the adaptive use of technology to create social connections in novel ways may be key to thriving during times of cultural change and unpredictability.

This study examines the impact of early adolescent drug use on subsequent dropping out of high school in a sample of 4,390 adolescents from California and Oregon. Participants were initially surveyed in 7th grade in 1985 and again in 1990 when they should have completed 12th grade. Logistic regression analyses show that frequency of cigarette use during 7th grade predicts dropping out of high school, controlling for demographics, family structure, academic orientation, early deviance, and school environment. Separate analyses by race/ethnicity replicate this finding for Asians, Blacks, and whites, but not for Latinos. For Latinos, early marijuana use predicts dropping out. The results suggest that preventing or reducing the incidence of early smoking and marijuana use may help reduce the probability of dropping out of high school.

Geologically, Indonesia is a country prone to disasters, particularly volcanic eruptions. One of the steps that can be taken to minimize the impact of volcanic eruptions is through the education sector as foundation the knowledge, attitudes, and skills of students. Therefore, this study aims to determine the preparedness of students in dealing with volcanic eruptions based on aspects of knowledge about volcanic eruptions, responsiveness in dealing with volcanic eruptions, and evacuation skills in dealing with volcanic eruptions. The subjects of the study were 26 students from 8th grade at Junior High School of 1 Ngancar. Research method in this study is by interviews and tests. Samples of respondents were taken randomly based on suggestions from science teachers at Junior High School of 1 Ngancar. The results of the research that have been carried out are as follows: Student preparedness is still in the poor category, seen from the aspect of knowledge and skills in evacuation, while the aspect of disaster response attitudes shows conflicting results, where based on the test of disaster response attitudes, 83.3% is in the good category. However, based on interviews with science teachers, it shows that the facilities, and there has never been any socialization related to disaster mitigation in the school environment. Therefore, it is necessary to do an application test to find out whether disaster response attitudes are truly embedded in students.

The researcher wants to explain the impact of principal leadership on the effectiveness of learning at high school level. The study is aimed at finding principal leadership model as an ideal example in managing school as an educational institution to bring effective learning as an output. The results of the discussion show that the principal's leadership has a significant positive effect on teacher competence to realize the effectiveness of learning. The conclusion from this discussion that the effectiveness of learning can run well can be done by applying the leadership of the principal and teacher competence. The Principal has strong influence because he leads with love, gives positive impact on school even outside world. He has become catalyst agent who brings others to a purpose, by making himself as not only a creator of culture but also the one who sustains it especially inside school environment. The better the leadership of the principal is, the better the learning effectiveness at the school is.

Despite an increase in special education enrollment, a stark gap in high school completion between students with and without disabilities persists. This study examined the impact of Unified Champion Schools (UCS), a Special Olympics program designed to foster social inclusion through three components—Unified Sports, Inclusive Youth Leadership, and Whole School Engagement—on high school graduation rates. Using a novel dataset and a difference-in-differences design, we found that implementing the UCS program increased the graduation rate by 1.1 percentage points for all students and 1.4 percentage points for students with disabilities. The increase in schooling outcomes for students with disabilities in UCS schools also was found to be positively correlated with perceptions about a more socially inclusive school environment.

Science teaching in basic education aims to provide content for individuals who can handle with new information and are able to understand, question and position themselves before ethical debates related to biotechnology and molecular biology. However, the information flow generated in the molecular biology field is not accompanied by the dissemination of scientific information into the school environment, nor is it incorporated into the teaching knowledge on a continuous basis. In addition, the teaching of molecular biology and its related concepts, which involves great abstraction capacity on the part of students, requires the elaboration and use of specific didactic resources. Thus, this work aims to present the gamified software BioQuest and its usability and interface evaluation made by 131 Brazilian high school students from the São Paulo State public school system in São Carlos region. The data show that there is no significant difference in the game evaluation made by students with previous experience with games and those without the habit of playing, except when it comes to understanding the commands proposed by the game. This implies that students with previous experience in games have greater ease in using this teaching resource. Regarding the impact on their learning, the data show that students who interacted with the game performed better on conceptual issues related to Molecular Biology when compared to students who did not. Specifically, the questions related to game phases that contained gamification elements of the narrative and extrinsic motivation types, correlated with better grades obtained by the students. The practical experience of BioQuest proposed for high school students allowed to observe a significant improvement in the quality of teaching that can contribute to became a reference in this area.
