The aim of the article Different faces of old age as perceived by the students of Polish studies is to present how old teachers perceive old age. The exemplification material consists of three texts: Winter tale. An essay on the old age of Ryszard Przybylski, “The Old Man’s Route”. An attempt at old age politics by Tadeusz Sławek and Lala Jacek Dehnel. Hermeneutical reading allowed for the creation of several images of autumn of life: a painful, marked by suffering attempts to overcome and suffering in a creative act; old age as a possibility of a deeper look at the spiritual dimension of human existence and old age reconciled with the laws of transiting the events immersed in the act of memorization.

This paper critically analyses contemporary secular psychological approaches to the origin and methodological study of man from an Islamic perspective. The paper argues that the contemporary theories on human existence and behaviour emerged from secularism which has taken a philosophical view that the world and all that it contains is a result of evolution. Both the ontology and epistemology of research have been influenced by this view point. Thus, the behaviour of man is defined and studied to exclude his spiritual dimension, a direct conflict with the Islamic view point which links every creature and its behaviour to the creation and guidance of Allah. It is recommended that an integrative methodological approach be adopted to cater for both the materialistic and spiritual aspects of man.

This article addresses architects, planners, and developers but should also interest any other professionals involved in the creation of the built environment. It begins by stating that the built environment is principally made up of buildings and groupings of buildings. Therefore, architecture and urban design are the major focus of the article. Definitions of architecture are then presented from a variety of authors and architects. An argument is made that there actually is a missing dimension in the built environment illustrated by quotations from architects, architectural theorists, amid critics. It becomes evident that architecture is unable to satisfy the emotional and aesthetic needs of people and also that the profession itself, which admits that modern architecture has created bleak and insensitive environments, is in profound disagreement on how to rectify the situation. Under the heading “Architecture–The Object” arguments for and against different architectural movements or stylistic tendencies are highlighted by quotations from the proponents of tile various styles and theories. A similar approach is taken for cities under the heading “Urban Design–The Juxtaposition of Objects.” The fact that something is missing from architectural and city design is concluded, and examples of a preoccupation for the spiritual aspect of architecture and urban design are used to illustrate this growing concern for a dimension that has been much neglected in tile previous several decades. The notion of “spiritual” is then defined, followed by a list of spiritual qualities. Two important principles, unity in diversity and consultation are discussed before presenting some concluding thoughts on how the designers of the built environment can begin finding ways of infusing their designs with a spiritual dimension.

The conclusion is an alternate, and somewhat more original, account of the book’s aims—more “readable” in many ways and synthetic in its incorporation of others’ valuable insights. There would be no conclusion such as the one presented here without the “hard work” of the first three chapters. Its focal point is accordingly to be found in the development of a “material spirituality” lodged within the potentiality of the human being—something that is never severed from the possibility of encounter with an O/other, even if such an encounter continuously fails to be recorded in words—examined here through the concrete dynamics found in the practices of writing and publishing. Though the conclusion could certainly “stand alone” from the rest of the work, it achieves its “fuller” sense in light of what came before it, and, in this sense, points beyond the merely theoretical and toward that creative and spiritual dimension of human existence we have been pining for all along, which pushes the boundaries of both philosophy and theology more than just a little bit, and which may only be graspable through the failures of our representations.

Among the various crises, worrying enough is the start of the scarcity of some Natural Resources (SDA), especially from unrecoverable groups such as petroleum, metals and minerals. And by often ignoring the needs of other living beings as well as the needs of future generations. If then comes a crisis with respect to this SDA, which is affected negatively human finally. SDA is needed by humans in the past, present and future. The threat to the existence and sustainability of natural resources is just the same as the threat to human existence and survival. The conservation of natural resources, which is essentially the management of natural resources, is an absolute must and is the main responsibility of human being as the Caliph of this earth. There are three main tasks for human beings related to the conservation of natural resources including al Intifa '(nurture and utilize), al I'tibar (think, be grateful, explore the secrets of nature), and al Islah (preserve and deliberate sustainability for the benefit of people, and the creation of harmony of life nature of Allah's creation.

Abstract: This reflection intends to retrieve and preserve the old ecclesiastical intuition expressed in the principle: legem credendi statuat lex supplicandi (“the law of the prayer should establish the law of faith”). Thus, the norm of the Christian cult will determine the logic of the belief, making it clear that between Liturgy and Theology there prevails a relationship of intrinsic reciprocity. On the one hand, Liturgy is conceived as the source of Theology and, on the other, Theology appears as the instance that confirms Liturgy. The challenges Liturgy places before Theology centre around three elements: the ecclesiastical principles as the humus of theology; the paschal event of Christ as the sap of Theology; and the creation, history and human beings as the vital space of Theology. The conclusion emphasizes the need to accept the sacramental character of human existence and the contingency of its manifestations and suggests that both Liturgy and Theology should become more symbolic and closer to poetry.

The beauty of old age. Poetic image of passingin Goran Petrovic’s proseThe aim of the article was to present the beauty of aging heroes living in adreamlike and idealized worlds of Goran Petrovic’s prose, and to reveal the mechanism of beautifying the aging process itself by reffering to folklore, playing with stereotypes, and using strongly metaphoric language. Presented paper focuses on Petrovic’s interesting ways of showing the beauty hidden in old age, also pointing to forgetting names and words as the most important determinant of aging what indicates aclose connection between human existence and language ontological status of language.Lepota starosti. Old age psychiatrists will encounter situations of elder abuse in their practice. Whatever their work and professional policies they will need to think the unthinkable and to provide leadership to teams and across services. Asking and observing what is happening are key elements of their role. There is further need to work collaboratively to support older people at risk and to empower then by fostering or sustaining resilience. Old age psychiatrists can assist in prevention and in the building of supportive communities. They have a key role to play in furthering research and the creation of effective interventions for perpetrators. Their engagement with staff and residents in care homes may prevent poor practice and diminish opportunities for abuse and neglect.

In the wake of the pandemic, many lessons have been learnt, and different challenges have been incurred, leading to the creation of not only stress but also limiting the activities of old-age people. One of the most vulnerable sections of the society is the ‘aging population'. This theoretical chapter discusses the concerns and complexities affecting the aging population in the present pandemic (COVID-19) and how the concerns and complexities impact social and economic activities. The chapter also explores the stress variable. The chapter uses the current scenario and secondary sources to explore the research phenomenon in-depth. Recommendations to the policymakers are given at the end.

Abstract Study question What are main themes guiding the attitudes of Dutch professionals and lay citizens with regard to the creation and research use of embryo-like structures? Summary answer The attitudes of Dutch citizens indicate feelings of trust and distrust, distinct ‘embryo’ conceptualizations, competing moral values and beliefs, and criteria for adequate regulatory safeguards. What is known already Researchers are hopeful that the creation and research use of so-called embryo-like structures (ELS), i.e., stem cell-based models that can mimic (parts of) early (human) embryogenesis, may provide a morally less controversial way of studying the period during which most human etiologies rise while also reducing and replacing the use of animals and/or human embryos in research. Scholars in the humanities and social sciences underline that public engagement and support will be essential in harvesting this presumed moral advantage. Studies on the public endorsement of and attitudes towards synthetic embryology remain nevertheless significantly scarce. Study design, size, duration For this qualitative study with a cross-sectional design, data were collected through four semi-structured focus group discussions (N = 33) between August and September 2020. Participants/materials, setting, methods The focus group interviews consisted of one pilot interview (n = 5), two interviews with lay citizens (n = 21), and one interview with professionals (n = 7). The pilot participants and lay citizens were invited based on sociodemographic characteristics of the Dutch public. Professionals were selected from the networks of the authors based on their experience and affinity with ethical and legal debates on emerging biotechnologies. The transcriptions were analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. Main results and the role of chance From our analysis emerged four themes: (1) trust, distrust and ambivalence in synthetic embryology, mainly due to concerns about scientific compliance with societal norms, also in view of a projected future ability of using ELS for reproductive ends; (2) diversity of ELS-conceptualizations, also in terms of their (non-)distinction from ‘natural’ human embryos; (3) grounds for moral value and moral standing, in which a possible potential to grow into a human being and perceived tinkering with nature were considered key issues of moral concern; and (4) conditions for responsible embryo-like research, with an emphasis on legally binding the use of ELS to non-reproductive research purposes. Interestingly, whereas questions on the developmental potential of ELS were critical for both the attitudes of professionals and those of lay citizens, lay citizens were much more concerned that synthetic embryology could fundamentally change human existence for the worse. In particular, lay citizens worried that synthetic embryology could lead to dystopian futures, for instance, because it stimulates a ‘makeable human existence’ or because of a presumed inability to monitor and control scientific progress. These findings may imply a correlation between fear of research and degrees of (un)familiarity with the governance systems of science. Limitations, reasons for caution Qualitative research methods provide rich and in-depth data for an ethical analysis of motivations and intuitions, but do not allow generalizations of the findings to broader publics. Wider implications of the findings The results may provide a useful starting point for further discussion and analysis of adequate regulatory parameters for the creation and research use of ELS. The findings also show that societal dialogue and public consultation can play a significant role in addressing concerns about emerging (bio)technologies. Trial registration number not applicable
