Sunflower is an important crop cultivated all over world owing to its versatile nature of adaptation to different agro-climatic and soil conditions. In India sunflower gains momentum as an edible oil and ranks fourth substantially by reducing the shortage of vegetable oil. Nutritionally sunflower oil benefits human due to presence of high linoleic acid content and absence of linolenic acid content. The productivity is lower due to different factors among which nutrient management especially sulphur that plays pivot role in governing the growth, yield and quality of sunflower. Sulphur contains aminoacids viz., cystein, methionine, cystine, vitamins B, biotin and thiamine. The protolytic enzymes aids in improving the oil content, protein content and quality of seeds by sulphur supplement. Extensive investigations of research scientist on sulphur levels were critically reviewed. Application of sulphur at 40 to 60 kg ha-1 was found to increase the growth and yield attributes, yield, quality as well as higher benefit cost ratio sustaining the livelihood of sunflower growers.

Groundnut is an important crop cultivated all over world owing to its versatile nature of adaptation to different agro-climatic and soil conditions. In India groundnut gains momentum as an edible oil and India next to food grain. Nutritionally groundnut contains 50 % oil, 25-30 % protein, 20% carbohydrate and 5%fiber. The productivity is lower due to different factors among which nutrient management especially boron that plays pivot role in governing the growth, yield and quality of groundnut. Boron plays various role in the physiological processes of plants, such as cell elongation, cell maturation, meristematic tissue development and protein synthesis, cellular membrane function, reproductive structures and anti- oxidative defence system. It induces flowering, fertilization, hormonal metabolism and translocation of sugars from source to sink. Extensive investigations of research on boron levels were critically reviewed. Application of boron at 10-15 kg ha-1 of soil application and foliar application of 0.5 percent at critical stage was found to increase the growth and yield attributes, yield, quality as well as higher benefit cost ratio sustaining the livelihood of groundnut growers.

Background: An experiment on “Effect of Integrated Nutrient Management on Growth, Yield Attributes and Economics of Spiny Brinjal (Solanum melongina L.) var. VRM (Br)-1” were conducted at Adhiparasakthi Agricultural College farm, Vellore District, Tamil Nadu. Methods: Eleven treatments of integrated nutrient management viz., T1-RDF of N:P:K (100:50:30 kg/ha.), T2– FYM (25 t/ ha.), T3- Humic acid (20 kg/ha.), T4- RDF of N:P:K (100:50:30 kg/ha.) +FYM @25 t/ ha, T5- Humic acid (20 kg/ha.) + RDF of N:P:K (100:50:30 kg/ha.), T6- Azospirillum (2 kg/ha.), T7- Phosphobacteria (2 kg/ha.), T8- Azospirillum (2 kg/ha.) + Phosphobacteria (2 kg/ha.), T9 – 75% RDF of N (75 kg/ha.) + 100% RDF of P&K (50:30 kg/ha.) + Azospirillum (2 kg/ha.), T10 - 75% RDF of P (37.5 kg/ha.) + 100% RDF of N&K (100:30 kg/ha.) + Phosphobacteria (2 kg/ha.) and T11 - 75% RDF of N & P (75:37.5 kg/ha.) + 100% RDF of K (30 kg/ha.) + Azospirillum (2 kg/ha.) + Phosphobacteria (kg/ha.) replicated thrice in Randomised block design. Results: The various treatments of integrated nutrient managementin spiny brinjalclearly showed that growth and yield attributes were high in T11.The economic assessment of different treatments revealed that maximum net profit Rs.2,16,570/ha.with benefit cost ratio (2.60) was also recorded in treatment T11 75% RDF of N & P (75:37.5 kg/ha.) + 100% RDF of K (30 kg/ha.) + Azospirillum(2 kg/ha.) + Phosphobacteria (kg/ha.).

Brinjal is a crop grown widely all over India and preferred by both rich and poor. The Chhotanagpur plateau of Jharkhand is famous for quality vegetable production and brinjal is very commonly grown in this region almost throughout the year. However, the most of the commercial growers using plant protection chemicals and synthetic fertilizers those are so expensive that poor farmers can’t afford. The extensive uses of agro-chemicals and synthetic fertilizers also reduce the quality of both the produce and the cultivated soil. In this context, an attempt has been made through the present investigation by growing different varieties of brinjal by adopting Vedic (Enriched Sanjeevani) Farming and Homa Induction (Agnihotra) techniques with their respective four non-chemical alternative growing approaches, viz.  E1C1: Enriched Sanjeevani (1%), E1C2: Absolute Control (inherent fertility status of the experimental plot); E2C1: Enriched Sanjeevani (1%) + Homa Induction (Agnihotra), and E2C2: Only Homa Induction (Agnihotra). Five varieties of the crop, viz. V1: Swarna Pratibha; V2: Swarna Neelima; V3: Swarna Shakti; V4: Mukta Jhuri; V5: Long Green were grown with their four replications under four growing conditions and the Randomized Completed Block Design was adopted for field trials. Different growth, yield and quality attributing characters of the crop were taken into account and findings revealed that E2C1: Enriched Sanjeevani (1%) + Homa Induction (Agnihotra) was the most suitable growing condition for V2 (Swarna Neelima) with the maximum yield (72.37 t ha-1). Different growth and yield attributes of the crop varieties (especially in the case of V2: Swarna Neelima) were highly influenced by Enriched Sanjeevani (1%) + Homa Induction (Agnihotra) [E2C1] growing condition resulting higher benefit cost ratio of 6.78. Quality contributing attributes were also highly influenced by homa induction (Agnihotra), as a consequence, higher level of dry matter, TSS, and ascorbic acid contents were estimated from almost all samples collected from E2C1: Enriched Sanjeevani (1%) + Homa Induction (Agnihotra), and E2C2: Only Homa Induction (Agnihotra) growing conditions.

An experiment was conducted for 2 years (2018 and 2019) at Oilseed Research Farm, Kalyanpur, C. S. A. University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India to evaluate the effect of nutrient management practices on growth and yield of pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum (L) R. Br. Emend. Stuntz.). Highest yield was observed in 5t FYM/ha application over control. Each unit increase in N level led to significant increase in growth, yield attributing characters and yield of pearlmillet. The maximum grain yield (24.2q/ha) was recorded with highest N level. Combined inoculation of Azospirillum + PSB increased the growth, yield attributes and yields significantly. The monetary returns were found in similar trends. Application of organic manure and bio-fertilizers resulted in desirable post-harvest soil status with more organic carbon (OC), Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P) and Potash (K).

To study the effect of nutrient management strategy on production potentiality of short duration high yielding summer irrigated groundnut variety TG 51, field experiments were conducted during summer seasons of 2011 and 2012 at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, West Bengal. Results revealed that, application of 100 % RDF + 7.5 t/ha FYM as basal increased growth and yield attributes that led to significantly higher productivity (pod yield 3320 kg/ha) besides enrichment of soil available nutrients after harvest of the crop. Pod yield decreased with further increase in NPK fertilizer above 100% RDF. However, maximum haulm yield (3979kg/ha) was recorded with 150% RDF + 7.5t/ha FYM as basal. Maximum net return: cost ratio (3.43) was found with 100 % RDF which was closely followed by that of 100 % RDF + 7.5 t/ha FYM.

The Field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of fertility management on growth, yield attributes and yield of pearlmillet in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with ten treatments and four replications during summer, 2019 at Anand, Gujarat. The experiment comprises of different nutrient management practices including 100% and 75% RDF with 15 t and 10 t FYM along with Bio NP consortia. A significant higher growth and yield parameters enhancement with the application of 100% RDF + 15 t FYM ha-1 + Bio NP Consortia was recorded in plant height, number of tillers, length of ear head, protein content and biological yield. The treatment T5 produced maximum (91.5 q ha-1) biological yield and statistically it was on par with T9 and T5. However, the lowest biomass production (73.0 q ha-1) was reported in treatment T1. Results of different nutrient management practices on days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, ear head girth and test weight were found non-significant.  Protein content of pearlmillet was increased from 7.5% to 9.06% under different nutrient management practices.

Plant nutrients and soil moisture are considered some of the most important factors affecting physiological characters and grain yield of maize. Therefore, a field experiment was conducted at UBKV, Cooch Behar, West Bengal during 2013 and 2014 to study the effects of moisture conservation and nutrient management practices on growth and yield of maize (Zea mays L.). The experiment was laid out in a split –plot design with three replications. Four levels of moisture conservation practices M0: without irrigation and without mulch, M1: irrigation as and when required, M2: dry weed biomass mulch @5.0t ha-1 M3: FYM mulch @ 5.0 t ha-1 were assigned to main plots and four levels of nutrient management N1: 100% RDF 80:40:40 kg ha-1 of N:P2O5: K2O N2:100% RDF + phosphate solubilising bacteria (PSB) + Azotobacter N3:75% RDF+ PSB + Azotobacter + vermicompost (VC) @ 5.0 t ha-1 and N4:50% RDF + PSB + Azotobacter + 50% vermicompost @ 2.5t ha-1 for sub plot. Among the moisture conservation practices, application of irrigation recorded the highest growth, yield attributes, yield and harvest index followed by FYM mulch and dry weed bio-mass mulch. Similarly, N, P and K uptake of maize was recorded highest under irrigation followed by FYM mulch; dry weed bio mass mulch and lowest N, P and K uptake were recorded under without irrigation and mulch. Among the nutrient management practices the highest growth, yield attributes, yield, harvest index and N, P & K uptake were recorded under 75% RDF + PSB + Azotobacter + vermicompost @ 5.0 t ha-1 followed by 100% RDF + PSB+ Azotobacter & 100% RDF and lowest were recorded under 50% RDF + PSB + Azotobacter + 50% vermicompost 2.5 t ha-1 . Likewise, maximum benefits were recorded under 75% RDF + PSB+ Azotobacter + vermicompost @ 5.0 t ha-1 and lowest net return and return per rupee invested were recorded under 50% RDF + PSB + Azotobacter + 50% vermicompost 2.5 t ha-1. From this study, maize grown with irrigation and supplied with 75% RDF + PSB + Azotobacter + vermicompost @ 5.0 t ha-1 is found the best for obtaining overall gain on a sustainable basis.

A field experiment was carried out during summer season of 2013 and 2014 to find out the effect of inorganic and bio-fertilizers on the growth, yield and quality of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) cv. Pusa Hybrid -2. The results revealed that plants growth and yield of tomato can be increased with the application of Azospirillum along with recommended dose of NPK (120kg N + 60kg P + 60kg K/ha). The ascorbic acid content of fruits were found maximum with the 80kg N + 40kg P + 60kg K/ha with Azospirillum. The TSS was improved by the application of 80kg N + 40kg P + 60kg K/ha with Phosphobacteria.

Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) is a novel strategy to achieve sustainable crop production in degraded soils through judicious and balanced plant nutrients utilization. Sole application of chemical fertilizers in crop production causes soil and environmental pollution. The present study was designed to assess the effects of application of organic manures conjointly with chemical fertilizers on growth and yield of okra in acid soil. The experiment was consisted of four treatments viz. T0 [Control], T1 [Recommended dose of chemical fertilizers (RDF)], T2 [Dolomite (D) @ 1t ha-1 + RDF], T3 [Poultry manure (PM) @ 3t ha-1 + RDF], T3 [Cow dung (CD) @ 5t ha-1 + RDF] with six replications in a randomized complete block design. The results indicated that the use of PM with RDF showed better performance in the growth and yield attributes of okra. Compared with others plots, the highest plant height (114.10 cm), fresh weight plant-1 (591.58 g) and dry weight plant-1 (86.73 g) were observed in the PM-treated plot. Similarly, the highest number of fruits plant-1 (20.33) and fruit yield (13.58 t ha-1) were also found in PM-treated plants. Therefore, under acidic soil conditions, organic and inorganic fertilization may have a significant positive impact on the growth and yield of Okra.

A field experiment was carried out at College Farm, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari on clayey soils during summer season of the year 2019 to study the Effect of iron and zinc on growth, yield and quality of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L.) under south Gujarat condition. The results of experiment indicated that growth and yield attributes viz., plant height at 60 DAS and at harvest, number of branches per plant, number of nodules per plant, number of pods per plant, pod length, seed and haulm yield (955 and 2008 kg/ha, respectively) and test weight increased significantly with soil application of FeSO4 @ 25.0 kg/ha which was significantly higher over control but remained at par with soil application of 12.5 kg FeSO4/ha. Similarly zinc is also an essential plant nutrient for plant growth and yield. Zinc application had also positive effect on growth and yield attributes viz., plant height at 60 DAS and at harvest, number of branches per plant, number of nodules per plant, number of pods per plant, pod length, seed and haulm yield (972 and 2030 kg/ha, respectively) and test weight increased significantly with soil application of ZnSO4 @ 25.0 kg/ha which was significantly higher over control but remained at par with soil application of 12.5 kg ZnSO4/ha. Significant improvement in protein content in seed with soil application of both FeSO4 and ZnSO4 @ 25.0 kg/ha.
