Fats in its saturated and unsaturated form play an important role in our daily diet. Its overconsumption in either form can be lethal to our body. For example excess of cholesterol, saturated and tram's fat can lead to chronic diseases such as cancer, heart attack, diabetes. Looking into the chemical composition of mustard oil with other edible vegetable oil, this review highlights the health benefits of mustard oil for its medicinal utility like anticarcinogenic property which prevents cancers formation in body, reduces body temperature, antifungal and antibacterial property to treat skin diseases, good appetizer and body toner Further, reduces the adhesive impulses in blood platelets which is helpful to minimize the risk of a heart failure, prevent children's from asthma, allergic cold, and asthmatic eczema, protect eyes and throat irritation and strengthen our RBC by decreases cholesterol and improves RBC membrane structure. Above all, it also adds aroma and flavor increasing the palatability of food thereby increase the oil economy.

Aims: The aim of this research work is to synthesise, study and analyse photocatalytic degradation, kinetics. Background: Copper(II) mustard thio urea complex has been synthesized and characterized through FT-IR, NMR, ESR studies. Objective: Photocatalytic degradation of copper(II) mustard thio urea complex was studied in the presence of ZnO as a catalyst in the solution form, using a non polar solvent benzene and a polar solvent methanol with different compositions. Antibacterial activities of copper(II) complex have also been studied against Staphylococcus aureus. Method: O.D. was measured after different time intervals spectrophotometrically to measure the degradation of the complex. Result: Plot of 2+ log O.D. (absorbance) versus time was plotted and found to be linear. The heterogeneous photocatalysis followed pseudo-first-order reaction kinetics. The present study suggests that the CMT complex shows antibacterial activity at different concentrations. Conclusion: The rate of photocatalytic degradation of CMT complex was studied and analyzed. It has been found that the rate of degradation varies with different parameters like the concentration of complex, the amount of catalyst, light intensity, solvent polarity etc. The CMT complex derived from natural mustard oil has shown an inhibitory effect on the growth of S. aureus which may cause skin diseases.

SummaryBlood platelets have long been recognised to bring about primary haemostasis with deficiencies in platelet production and function manifesting in bleeding while upregulated function favourises arterial thrombosis. Yet increasing evidence indicates that platelets fulfil a much wider role in health and disease. First, they store and release a wide range of biologically active substances including the panoply of growth factors, chemokines and cytokines released from α-granules. Membrane budding gives rise to microparticles (MPs), another active participant within the blood stream. Platelets are essential for the innate immune response and combat infection (viruses, bacteria, micro-organisms). They help maintain and modulate inflammation and are a major source of pro-inflammatory molecules (e.g. P-selectin, tissue factor, CD40L, metalloproteinases). As well as promoting coagulation, they are active in fibrinolysis; wound healing, angiogenesis and bone formation as well as in maternal tissue and foetal vascular remodelling. Activated platelets and MPs intervene in the propagation of major diseases. They are major players in atherosclerosis and related diseases, pathologies of the central nervous system (Alzheimers disease, multiple sclerosis), cancer and tumour growth. They participate in other tissue-related acquired pathologies such as skin diseases and allergy, rheumatoid arthritis, liver disease; while, paradoxically, autologous platelet-rich plasma and platelet releasate are being used as an aid to promote tissue repair and cellular growth. The above mentioned roles of platelets are now discussed.

Introduction: The titanium industry continues to build capacity and introduce innovative technologies driven by high demand for the metal and its alloys. High occupational risks of diseases of the respiratory and circulatory systems, diseases of the skin, and changes in hematological indices were established for titanium metal production workers. The objective of our study was to assess the occupational risk from exposures to titanium in the composition of industrial aerosols for the health of workers in the modernized areas of metallurgical production. Materials and methods: Our risk assessment was based on findings of periodic health examinations and doctor’s visits; we estimated the relative risk (RR) and used χ2 criterion to evaluate the statistical significance of the results. Results: We observed significantly higher incidence rates of diseases of the skin, ear, respiratory and musculoskeletal systems with temporary disability and higher rates of chronic diseases of the skin, respiratory and digestive systems in the titanium metal production workers compared to the workers of the same industrial enterprise unexposed to titanium and its alloys. Chronic diseases developed quicker in the exposed workers of all age groups than in the controls. The prevalence of hematologic disorders, such as high hemoglobin levels, thrombocytopenia, leukocytosis, lymphocytosis, and monocytosis was also higher in the exposed group. In the workers exposed to titanium concentrations exceeding the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) of 10 mg/m3 in the workplace air, we noted significantly higher rates of chronic diseases of the skin and digestive system, elevated hemoglobin levels, and a rising trend in the prevalence of chronic diseases of the circulatory system, high blood pressure, overweight, and thrombocytopenia in comparison with those working in permissible conditions. Conclusions: We revealed a strong correlation between occupational exposures to airborne titanium and chronic skin diseases and a medium correlation for leukocytosis and monocytosis.

Research background: The labor markets in the European countries are largely converging under the common platform of the EU legislation. However, the specific labor conditions across the countries still pertain, thus influencing the state of health differently across the countries. Purpose of the article: The article has for objective to reveal the relations between labor conditions (job satisfactions, opportunity to develop, recognition for work, salary adequacy, freedom of decision-making, job stress and social support), on one hand, and the self-perceived state of health, number of chronic diseases and the occurrence of the selected job-related diseases (peptic ulcer, hypertension, heart attack), on the other. The comparison is carried out in the light of the cross-country comparison. Methods: Sample consists of the employed and economically active employees, aged 50+, originating from 16 EU countries, Switzerland and Israel (N = 16 713 participants, females 53%). The data are provided by the EU Share database (Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe). We use ranking of countries by means (self-perceived state of health, number of chronic diseases) and the non-parametric regression analysis. Findings & Value added: All analyzed working conditions generate statistically significant relations with the self-perceived state of health at the all countries level. However, at the level of individual countries the patterns differ considerably (what rises methodological concerns on different country samples). As regards the specific diseases, considered as work-related: peptic ulcer is associated with all the working conditions analyzed, hypertension associates with four working factors and heart-attack with three. Findings bring important implications for the HR managers and relevant policy-makers.

Diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue account for 3.8% in the structure of total morbidity. Tula region is among the five leaders in the diseases of skin and subcutaneous tissue in the Central Federal District. This study was examined a medical and pharmaceutical care to patients with chronic diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue. Pharmacists give expert assessment of the situation. In the Tula region 40 pharmacists and pharmacy staff were interviewed because they have direct contact with pharmacy visitors. Chronic skin disease was examined on the example of psoriasis, eczema and atopic dermatitis. These diseases are characterized by a prolonged course, with periods of recurrence and remission. Chronic diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue significantly reduce the quality of life of patients and are accompanied by long-term medication. Patients with these diseases are frequent visitors to pharmacies, so it is important to study the opinions of specialists with pharmaceutical education on the organization of medical and pharmaceutical care for patients with atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and eczema.

Bamboo, a natural material, has been widely used in the fields of decoration, architecture and furniture. However, bamboo is easy to mildew and lose its use value. In this paper, the inhibition mechanism and antibacterial activity of a natural antibacterial agent citral on bamboo mould and its anti-mildew effect on bamboo were studied. The results showed that citral could change the shape of mycelium, destroy the integrity of mycelium structure, cell wall and cell membrane structure, thereby causing leakage of nucleic acids, proteins and other substances in the cell, as well as destroy the pH balance of the inside and outside of the cell, to inhibit or kill mould. When the concentration of citral is 100 mg ml −1 , the antibacterial rates of citral against Penicillium citrinum (PC), Trichoderma viride (TV), Aspergillus niger (AN) and a hybrid fungi group comprising PC, TV and AN (Hun) were more than 100%. However, compared with the direct effect of citral on mould, the antibacterial property of bamboo treated with citral was significantly reduced, the mildew proof effect can be achieved only if the concentration of citral to treat bamboo is increased to more than twice the concentration of citral directly acting on mould.

Abstract Background Many previous studies have reported factors that contribute to health-related quality of life (HRQoL) for a single skin disease. However, little is known about generalized factors associated with HRQoL across skin diseases. The objective of this study was to investigate overall HRQoL, and to identify factors related to severely impaired HRQoL among patients with 16 different skin diseases. Methods A cross-sectional study of 9845 patients with skin disease was conducted in 9 hospitals in China. HRQoL was assessed with the Chinese version of the Skindex-29 which measures dermatology-specific health along three domains (symptoms, emotions and functioning). With the published Skindex-29 cut-off scores for severely impaired HRQoL, logistic regression models assessed the relationship between severely impaired HRQoL and demographic/clinical characteristics, with adjustments for different skin diseases. To guarantee the models’ convergence, 16 skin diseases with frequencies of at least 100 were included, and the sample size was 8789. Results Emotions was the most impaired aspect of HRQoL. Co-existing chronic diseases, 3 years or longer duration, and more severity were identified as associated factors for severely impaired HRQoL for each Skindex-29 domain, and for the aggregate. Being female, under 45 years old, and consuming alcohol were associated with a severely impaired emotion domain; Lack of exercise and smoking were associated with severely impaired symptoms and function domains, respectively. Conclusions Skin diseases can affect many facets of HRQoL, but the emotional impairment deserves more attention. In addition to skin disease severity, this study shows that other chronic diseases and long duration are correlated with severely impaired HRQoL for patients with 16 clinical common skin diseases. This suggests the need for increased awareness in treating skin disease as a chronic disease. It also suggests that disease management decisions should consider HRQoL improvement, especially emotional conditions, when making management decisions.

In the investigation of the molecular organization of cell membranes it is often supposed that lipid molecules are arranged in a bimolecular film. X-ray diffraction data obtained in a direction perpendicular to the plane of suitably layered membrane systems have generally been interpreted in accord with such a model of the membrane structure. The present studies were begun in order to determine whether selected area electron diffraction would provide a tool of sufficient sensitivity to permit investigation of the degree of intermolecular order within lipid films. The ultimate objective would then be to apply the method to single fragments of cell membrane material in order to obtain data complementary to the transverse data obtainable by x-ray diffraction.

Thrombocytes (TC), the avian equivalent of blood platelets, support hemostasis by aggregating at sites of injury. Studies in our lab suggested that fibrinogen (fib) is a requisite cofactor for TC aggregation but operates by an undefined mechanism. To study the interaction of fib with TC and to identify fib receptors on cells, fib was purified from pigeon plasma, conjugated to colloidal gold and used both to facilitate aggregation and as a receptor probe. Described is the application of computer assisted reconstruction and stereo whole mount microscopy to visualize the 3-D organization of fib receptors at sites of cell contact in TC aggregates and on adherent cells.Pigeon TC were obtained from citrated whole blood by differential centrifugation, washed with Ca++ free Hank's balanced salts containing 0.3% EDTA (pH 6.5) and resuspended in Ca++ free Hank's. Pigeon fib was isolated by precipitation with PEG-1000 and the purity assessed by SDS-PAGE. Fib was conjugated to 25nm colloidal gold by vortexing and the conjugates used as the ligand to identify fib receptors.

The utilization of blood platelets in experimentation frequently requires their separation from blood and subsequent resuspension in media of known composition. Several methods are available for preparation of isolated platelets (1-3) by differential centrifugation or gel filtration, but most methods are tedious and time consuming. Often platelets obtained by use of such methods are in a state different functionally and ultrastructurally from that of platelets in plasma (4).Recently Mohammad, Reddick, and Mason (5) reported a method in which platelets were separated from plasma by ADP-induced aggregation, washed several times, and then incubated in a carefully selected medium that resulted in deaggregation of platelets.
