Yield performance stability of adapted and improved cowpea in the Equatoria region of South Sudan

Cowpea is an important food crop with high nutritional and socio-economical values in South Sudan. However, the lack of improved varieties is one of the main production constraints. This study was undertaken to assess the yield stability performance of improved cowpea genotypes across six environments in South Sudan in 2014 and 2015. Nine genotypes were evaluated in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Genotype and genotype x environment biplot analysis method was used to determine yield stability. Highly significant (p less than 0.001) genotype x environment interaction effect was detected for seed yield. IT90K-277-2 had the highest while ACC004 had the lowest grain yield. Palotaka was as highly discriminating and repeatable environment compare to the other testing sites. IT07K-211-1-8 and Mading Bor II were the most responsive genotypes, while IT90K-277-2 was the most stable high yielding genotype across the test environments and can be grown by farmers across the region.

The objective of this experiment was to estimate the magnitude of genotype X environment interaction on grain yield and yield related traits. Twelve varieties of food barley were included in the study planted in randomized complete block design with three replications. The ANOVA of combined and individual location revealed significant differences among the food barley genotypes for grain yield and other traits. The results of ANOVA for grain yield showed highly significant (p≤0.01) differences among genotypes evaluated for grain yield at Maychew and significant (p≤0.05) differences in Korem, Alage and Mugulat. The ANOVA over locations showed a highly significant (p≤0.01) variation for the genotype effect, environment effects, genotype X environment interaction (GEI) effect and significant (p≤0.05) variation for GEI effect of yield and for most of the yield related traits of food barley genotypes. Haftysene, Yidogit, Estayish and Basso were the genotypes with relatively high mean grain yield across all locations and they are highly performing genotypes to the area. Among locations, the highest mean grain yield was recorded at Korem and it was a suited environment to all the genotypes whereas Mugulat is unfavoured one. Abstract: The objective of this work was to select superior sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) clones with good stability and adaptability, considering the genotype x environment interaction in two productive cycles. Twenty-five early clones plus five control clones were evaluated during two cuts (ratoon cane and plant cane) in 24 environments. A randomized complete block design was used, with three replicates. Tons of stems per hectare and tons of pol per hectare were evaluated. To verify adaptability and stability, the bisegmented regression and the multivariate (AMMI and GGE biplot) methods were used. According to the three methods, which are complementary regarding the desired information, the most promising clones in terms of stability and general adaptability are G5, G12, and G13; the last two are closest to the ideal genotype. The G13 clone is highly productive in favorable and unfavorable environments, presenting the highest averages for ton of stems and pol per hectare. The G3, G4, G10, G15, G17, G18, G22, G23, G25, G26, and G30 clones are not recommended for the 24 evaluated environments.

The present investigation was carried out to study stability performance over twelve environments for yield and yield contributing characters in twenty two genetically diverse genotypes of soybean using a randomized complete block design. The partitioning of (environment + genotype x environment) mean squares showed that environments (linear) differed significantly and were quite diverse with regards to their effects on the performance of genotypes for yield and its components. Stable genotypes were identified for wider and specific environments with high per se performance (over general mean) for majority of yield component traits. The investigation revealed that the genotypes ABL 55, ABL 20, ABL 62 and ABL 45 were desirable and stable across the environments for different yield contributing traits. Other genotypes ABL 43 and ABL 17 were found to be suitable for favourable situations, while genotypes ABL19 were adapted to poor environments for yield and majority of yield contributing traits.

<p>Multiplication of Propagated Tuber and Adaptability Test of Arrowroot Germplasm. Increasing arrowroot production needs technology production and variety suitable to the plant environment. Production constraints for arrowroot are seedling (stolon and tuber) limitation of cultivars adapted to the production area. Experiment had been carried out by using two factors (seedling source and variety) planted under randomized complete block design, three replications to study their germination capability. Three parts of seedlings source (tip, middle and basal part of tuber, 2 buds each) as first factor, and 10 varieties as second factor. Effect of seedling (stolon and tuber) of arrowroot and variety (10 accessions) were tested to study their adaptability had been done in 3 locations (Bogor, Cianjur and Serang). Seedling were planted at 50 cm x 40 cm, one row for each treatment. Tip-part and base-part of tuber showed better germination than middle-part of arrowroot tuber. There were effect of genotypic and environment interaction to tuber and starch yield. Accession No. 27 (Tasikmalaya), No. 28 (Gunung Kidul), No. 29 (Garut), No. 58 (Karawang), No. 387 (Banjarnegara), No. 403 (Banyumas), No. 478 (Brebes), dan No. 625 (Cilacap) could be categorized as stabil, while No. 626 (Cilacap) was more responsive while No. 627 (Malang) less responsive to environment changes.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Abstrak</strong></p><p>Peningkatan produksi garut memerlukan teknik budi daya dan varietas yang sesuai dengan lingkungan tumbuh tanaman. Salah satu kendala dalam peningkatan produksi garut adalah sulitnya mendapatkan bibit dalam jumlah relatif banyak dan terbatasnya varietas yang cocok di daerah pengembangan. Percobaan telah dilakukan dengan menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok lengkap dengan perlakuan dua faktor, dengan tiga ulangan. Faktor pertama adalah stek umbi dengan dua mata tunas pada bagian ujung, tengah, dan pangkal. Faktor kedua adalah 10 aksesi garut. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui adaptabilitas 10 aksesi plasma nutfah garut, dilaksanakan di tiga lokasi, yaitu di Bogor, Pacet, dan Serang. Bibit ditanam dengan jarak 60 cm x 40 cm, satu baris tanaman tiap perlakuan. Hasil percobaan menunjukkan bahwa persentase stek umbi yang tumbuh pada bahan pangkal dan ujung lebih tinggi daripada stek umbi bagian tengah. Aksesi No. 27 (Tasikmalaya), No. 28 (Gunung Kidul), No. 29 (Garut), No. 58 (Karawang), No. 387 (Banjarnegara), No. 403 (Banyumas), No. 478 (Brebes), dan No. 625 (Cilacap) dapat dikategorikan stabil, sedangkan aksesi No. 626 (Cilacap) lebih responsif, dan aksesi No. 627 (Malang) kurang responsif terhadap perubahan lingkungan.</p>

ABSTRACT<br /><br />Genotype x environment interaction always presents in soybean multilocation trials in Indonesia. The objective of the research was to determine the performance of yield and yield components of soybean promising lines in two locations. A total of 11 promising lines, and three check varieties (Tanggamus, Wilis, and Anjasmoro) were evaluated in NTB and DIY in dry season 2013. The design was randomized complete block design with three replications. The results showed that yield and yield components were influenced by locations, genotypes and genotypes x locations interaction, except for days to maturity which was not influenced by the location. Number of filled pods had a significant positive correlation with grain yield of soybean. TGM/Anj-773 line had high average yield at two locations and higher than the check variety (Tanggamus).<br /><br />Keywords: correlation, genotype x environment, Glycine max

Brazil is the largest charcoal producers in the world, with the main centers of charcoal consumption located in the states of Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Espírito Santo, Maranhão, and Pará. Planting of Eucalyptus in the northern and northeastern states of Brazil is relatively new and is limited the lack of genetic materials adapted to the region’s high temperatures and severe, prolonged periods of drought. The objective of this study was to assess the genetic parameters and variability and determine the genotype x environment interaction for drought tolerance in Eucalyptus clonal tests established in two environments in the municipality of Grajaú, Maranhão State, Brazil. The tests were planted in January 2011 in clayey and sandy soils in a randomized complete block design with 130 clones, one plant per plot, and 20 replicates. The studied clones showed high genetic variability for drought tolerance, with coefficients of relative variance () consistently greater than 0.8 for DBH and volume. This indicates high levels of genetic control and less influence of environmental factors on the phenotype, which allows for selection and obtaining gains through breeding. Heritability estimates were high for growth traits, with average clone heritabilities () greater than 0.85, as well as acuracies () above 0.9 for DBH and volume in clone selection. There was a simple interaction between genotype x environment for the clones under the two different soil conditions.

The page numbers of this article have changed from 79-86 to 83-90.Assessing the adaptability and stability of promising rice genotypes is one of the important steps for accurate evaluation. This study determined the genotype × environment interaction (GEI) and stability performance of 12 promising rice genotypes in four environments during 2009 Aman season. The experiment used randomized complete block design with three replications. Yield stability and adaptability of yield performance were analyzed by combined analysis and additive main effects and multiplicative interaction (AMMI) model. The environment, genotype main effects, and the GEI were all highly significant (P<0.001). The study indicated that the tested genotypes, such as BRRHA G1 (5.47 tha-1), G2 (5.68 tha-1), G3 (6.29 tha-1) and G4 (5.27 tha-1) had higher average yields, which indicated these genotypes adapted to favourable environments (E1 and E3). Whereas the environment, E3 could be regarded as a more stable site for high yielding hybrid rice improvement than the other locations. Based on AMMI biplot analysis, genotypes BRRI1A/BRRI827R (G1), IR58025A/BRRI10R (G2), BRRI 10A/BRRI 10R (G3) and BRRI hybrid dhan1 (G4) have higher average mean yields with high main (additive) effects and positive IPCA1 score, among them BRRI 10A/BRRI10R (G3) being the overall best. Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the similarity network graphic methodology for the classification of flood-irrigated rice (Orzya sativa) genotypes regarding their adaptability and stability. Two statistical measures were used to represent the proximity of the behavior (based on Pearson’s correlation) or values (based on Gower’s distance) between pairs of genotypes or between genotype and environment. Productivity data of 18 genotypes were evaluated in three locations in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, in the harvests of 2012/2013, 2013/2014, 2014/2015, and 2015/2016, in a randomized complete block design. The genotypes were previously assessed for adaptability and stability by the Eberhart & Russell and centroid methods. The graphical representations provided by the similarity networks allowed to better identify the pattern of the genotype x environment interaction, overcoming the interpretation difficulties due to the disagreements between the results obtained by the Eberhart & Russell and centroid methods. The similarity networks improve genotype x environment interaction studies.

<p>ABSTRAK</p><p>Pengujian interaksi genotipe dengan lingkungan (GxE) serta analisisstabilitas hasil suatu genotipe merupakan hal yang penting dalam programpemuliaan tanaman. Penelitian dengan tujuan untuk menganalisis hasil danstabilitas hasil 20 genotipe tanaman jarak pagar telah dilakukan di KebunPercobaan Pakuwon, Sukabumi, Jawa Barat, pada ketinggian tempat 450m dpl dengan jenis tanah Latosol dan tipe iklim B mulai bulan Mei 2008sampai Desember 2009. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah acak kelom-pok lengkap dengan 20 perlakuan genotipe tanaman dan tiga ulangan.Peubah yang dianalisis adalah jumlah buah panen selama 19 bulanberproduksi. Analisis ragam dilakukan secara gabungan antara 20 genotipedengan 19 lingkungan (umur tanaman) dan analisis stabilitas hasilmengikuti metode Eberhart dan Russel (1966). Hasil penelitian menunjuk-kan bahwa berdasarkan pada hasil jumlah buah panen selama 19 bulanberproduksi terdapat enam genotipe jarak pagar yang dapat diklasifikasi-kan ke dalam genotipe yang berdaya hasil tinggi dan stabil, yaitu PT7,PT13, PT14, PT15, PT33, dan 3189. The objectiveof this experiment was to analyze the yield and yield stability of 20genotypes of physic nut. Randomized complete block design with 20treatments of physic nut genotype and three replications was used in thisstudy, and the variabel observed was number of fruit harvested per month.Data were analyzed by combined analysis of variance and stabilityanalysis using Eberhart and Russel (1966) methods. Result showed thatbased on number of fruit harvested during 19 months production the PT7,PT13, PT14, PT15, PT33 and 3189 were classified as high yielding andstable genotypes. A study was conducted to assess genotype x environment interaction and also to determine stability of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench) genotypes for nine traits in Cameroon. Eight okra genotypes (including five parents of Cameroon and three exotics) were evaluated across three different locations (Dibang, Yagoua and Yaounde) using a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Each plot consisted of three rows of six plants each. Genotype x environment interaction has been evaluated using SAS Software.  There was considerable variation for all traits studied among both genotypes and environments. Five different methods of stability analysis have been used for the comparison of the genotypes and also to determine the most suitable stability parameter of okra. The stability in relation to the characters is independent of the genotypes. A total correspondence (r=1) exist between the general mean and the Pi performance for characters such as 50 % flowering and the fruit peduncle length. For, the procedure of Lin and Binns appeared to be more of a genotype performance measure, rather than a stability measure. The Wricke’s and Shukla’s procedures of stability statistic showed the highest significant positive correlation (P<0.01) with the majority of the studied character. That makes these procedures equivalent for ranking purposes.
