Growth, yield attributes and yield of medium duration pigeonpea hybrid ICPH-2671 as influenced by fertility levels and planting geometry

A field experiment was conducted during <italic>Kharif</italic> season 2009 to study the response of hybrid pigeonpea to planting geometry and fertility levels. The results revealed that the hybrid pigeonpea ICPH-2671 recorded significantly higher grain yield (2.40 tha<sup>−1</sup>) as compared to cv. Maruti (1.68 t ha<sup>−1</sup>) and the magnitude of increase was 41.7 % higher. The yield parameters like grain weight plant<sup>−1</sup>, number of pods plant<sup>−1</sup> and growth parameters like number of primary and secondary branches plant<sup>−1</sup>, LAI and dry matter production and its distribution were higher with hybrid pigeonpea ICPH-2671 compared to variety Maruti. Significant differences were observed among the plant geometry and fertility levels and their interactions with respect to growth and yield parameters. The plant geometry of 90 cm x 45 cm recorded significantly higher grain yield (2.57 t ha<sup>−1</sup>) as compared to closer geometry of 60 cm x 30 cm (2.19 t ha<sup>−1</sup>). The fertility level of 50: 100 N, P kg ha<sup>−1</sup> resulted in significantly higher grain yield (2.57 t ha<sup>−1</sup>) as compared to lower fertility level of 25:50 N, P Kg ha<sup>−1</sup> (2.23 t ha<sup>−1</sup>).

A field experiment was conducted at Research and Advanced Studies, Dhablan, Department of Agriculture, Khalsa College, Patiala during rabiseason 2019-20 to find out the influence of plant densities and fertility levels on growth and yield of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) genotypes. The experiment was conducted in factorial randomized block design and replicated thrice. The experiment consisted of two genotypes (PBG 7 and GPF 2), two planting densities and two fertility levels. The results revealed that the genotype PBG 7 recorded significantly highestgrain yield (18.01 q ha-1) as compared to genotype GPF2 (16.62 q ha-1). The growth parameters were also higher with genotype PBG 7 followed by GPF 2. The density of 30 × 10 cm recorded. The highest grain and straw yield (17.47 and 22.51 q ha-1)as compared to 45× 10 cm spacing (16.74 and 18.53 q ha-1). However, yield attributes like pods plant-1,grain yield plant-1 and harvest index were higher with wider planting density (45 × 10 cm). Higher fertility level (N30P60K30S20 kg ha-1) produced highest grain yield (17.88 q ha-1) as compared to low fertility levels(16.75 q ha-1). The growth and yield parameters followed the similar trend. The chickpea genotype PBG 7 showed better response to closer planting density and higher fertility level.

The present study aimed to the effect of different organic manures on the growth and yield attributes of cotton by conducting field experiments during rice fallow season of 2013-14 and 2014-15 at the Tamil Nadu Rice Research Institute, Aduthurai.. The cotton growth parameters such as plant height, leaf area index, dry matter production and monopodial branches plant-1 were significantly influenced by the application of 100% recommended dose of fertilizer through vermicompost (on equal N basis). Also application of recommended dose of fertilizer through vermicompost (on equal N basis) recorded significantly higher yield attributes viz., sympodial branches plant-1, number of bolls plant-1, boll weight and seed cotton yield (17.4 and 18.6 q ha-1 during both the years, respectively). Economic analysis also indicated that Insitu vermicomposting produced higher net returns with higher B:C ratio.

A field experiment on cauliflower with different drip irrigation and NK fertigation levels was conducted at Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, Telangana during rabi 2019-2020. The experiment was laid out in a split plot design with nine treatments, comprising of three drip irrigation regimes viz., 0.6 Epan (I1), 0.8 Epan (I2) and 1.0 Epan (I3) as main plots and three drip NK fertigation levels of control (N0K0-F1), 50 % recommended dose of NK (N40 K50- F2) and 100 % recommended dose of NK (N80 K100- F3) as sub plots and replicated thrice. Growth and yield attributes were significantly higher at irrigation scheduled at 1.0 Epan. Plant height and yield attributes were comparable between 1.0 Epan and 0.8 Epan. Whereas plant height and dry matter production between 0.8 and 0.6 Epan were comparable. Drip irrigation scheduled at 1.0 Epan recorded significantly higher curd yield (18.7 t ha-1) than 0.8 Epan (17.1 t ha-1) and 0.6 Epan (15.0 t ha-1). NPK uptake were significantly higher in irrigation scheduled at 1.0 Epan than 0.8 and 0.6 Epan.  All growth, yield attributes and NPK uptake at harvest increased significantly with increase in NK fertigation level from control to 100% recommended dose of NK. Drip fertigation at 100 %  recommended dose of NK recorded significantly higher curd yield (23.8 t ha-1) than 50 % recommended dose of NK (19.7 t ha-1) and N0K0 (7.2 t ha-1).  Application of 1.0 E Pan irrigation and 100% recommended dose of NK performed better than other treatments.

The field experiment was laid out in split plot design with three replications, assigning in 27 treatment combinations i.e. three sowing dates of Pop corn (Zea mays everta Sturt.)cv. V.L. Amber (15 Dec, 30 Dec and 15 Jan) arranged in main plots and three level of plant population (60000, 80000 and 100,000 plants ha-1) in sub plot. Three level of fertility (100:50:50, 150:65:65 and 200:85:85 kg of N: P2O5: K2O ha-1) apportioned in sub-sub plots at the Research farm, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, BHU, Varanasi (U.P.) during late winter (rabi) seasons of 2009-10 and 2010-11 to study the influenced of planting time, fertility level and plant population on yield attributes, grain yield and economics of winter popcorn (Zea mays everta Sturt.) under late sown condition. The popcorn sown on 15th December recorded highest plant height, leaf-area index, dry matter, popcorn growth rate, yield attributes and yield of pop corn were significantly (P<0.05) affected and recorded highest benefit cost ratio (3.78). While, the maintenance of 80,000 popcorn plants/ha proved optimum for pop corn as it significantly (P<0.05) recorded highest number of kernel cob-1,grain yield (32.61 q/ha) and shelling percentage against density of 60,000 plants, while remained at par in straw yield over 100,000 plants. Application of 200: 85: 85 kg N: P2O5: K2O/ha significantly (P<0.05) increased growth, yield attributes and grain yield over 100: 50: 50 and 150: 65: 65 kg N: P2O5: K2O/ha and fetched the highest B: C ratio (3.14).

Because of using sulphur free fertilizer, rice crop facing tremendous sulphur (S) deficiency throughout the world as well as in Bangladesh. However, farmers of Bangladesh often overlook the importance of sulphur fertilization on rice yield. Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate the influence of different levels of sulphur on growth, yield attributes and uptake of N, P, K and S by grain and straw of BRRI dhan41 rice variety. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replication and eight treatments including control. The result of the study revealed that the highest plant height, panicle length, filled grain was found in T1 (50% RFD of S) treatment, while the utmost number of effective tiller and straw yield was recorded in T5 (150% RFD of S) treatment. Interestingly, maximum grain yield as well as uptake of N, P, K and S by grain and straw was significantly higher in T6 (175% RFD of S) treatment. The highest grain yield of T6 treatment might be due to maximum nutrient use efficiency. However, in all cases control treatment (T0) gave the worst result. The present study clearly indicates that higher rates (175% of the recommended dose) of S along with other fertilizers may be recommended for better growth and yield of BRRI dhan41 in Bangladesh soil.

Effect of concentrate organic manure (wellgrow grain and wellgrow soil) and NPK improved the growth and yield of wheat. Significant improvement in terms of growth parameters like plant height, tillers, dry matter production and productive tillers with application of 120 : 60 : 60 NPK + 300 kg wellgrow soil/ha and at par with application of 120 : 60 : 60 NPK + 300 kg wellgrow grain/ha, treatment receiving 100% NPK + 300 kg wellgrow soil/ha resulted maximum grain yield (4545 kg /ha). Treatment of 100% NPK + 300 kg wellgrow grain/ha maintained higher straw yield (5715 kg/ha) and test weight (44.10 g) due to application of 100 % NPK along with 200 kg wellgrow soil/ha whereas it was at par with application of 75 and 100% NPK with both levels of wellgrow formulation. A field experiment entitled “Effect of sowing dates on growth, yield attributes and yield of four wheat varieties” was conducted during winter season of 2016-17 on sandy loam soils of Poz-e-Ishan Research Farm of Agricultural Faculty of Baghlan University. The experiment was laid out in split plot design viz. four dates of sowing comprised of (16th November, 01st December, 16th December and 31st December 2016) as main plot treatments and four varieties (Solh 02, Gul 09, Muqawim 09, Kabul 013) as sub plot treatments with four replications. The highest plant height, number of effective per plant, test weight and grain yield of wheat was recorded with all varieties sown on 16 Nov-16, which was statistically identical with all treatments sown on 01 Dec-16 but significantly higher over rest of date of sowing. Among wheat varieties Kabul 013 and Gul 09 produced significantly higher plant height, number of effective per plant, test weight and grain yield of wheat over rest of the varieties. The experiment was conducted in the farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period from August to December 2012 to study the effect of various combinations of organic manure and inorganic fertilizer on the growth, yield, chlorophyll and nutrient content of rice var. BRRI dhan33. The treatment consists of T1: 100% Inorganic fertilizer (Recommended dose) + 5 ton poultry manure (PM) /ha , T2: 75 % N of recommended dose + 5 ton PM /ha, T3: 50 % N of recommended dose + 5 ton PM /ha, T4: 25 % N of recommended dose + 5 ton PM /ha, T5: 75 % S of recommended dose + 5 ton PM /ha, T6: 50 % S of recommended dose + 5 ton PM /ha, T7: 25 % S of recommended dose + 5 ton PM /ha, T8: 100% Inorganic fertilizer and T9: 5 ton PM /ha. Significant variation was found in growth and yield parameters as well as in chlorophyll content and nutrient content of aman rice. The most of the growth parameters ( plant height, leaf length and diameter, leaf number and total tiller plant-1) results were found better in 100% Inorganic fertilizer + 5 ton PM ha-1 which was statistically similar with 75 % of recommended dose of S + 5 ton PM ha-1, 75 % of recommended dose of N + 5 ton PM ha-1and followed by 50 % of recommended dose of S + 5 ton PM ha-1,respectively while the lowest from 5 ton/ha PM treatment. On the other hand, significantly higher chlorophyll “a”, “b” and total chlorophyll content were recorded in 100% Inorganic fertilizer + 5 ton PM ha-1and it was closely followed by 75 % of recommended dose of N + 5 ton PM ha-1 and lowest in 5 ton PM ha-1. Number of effective tillers plant-1, panicle length, number of rachis plant-1, filled grain plant-1 and fresh weight of plant were highest in 100% Inorganic fertilizer + 5 ton PM /ha and it was either statistically similar or closely followed by 75 % of recommended dose of S + 5 ton PM ha-1. Higher grain yield (4.18 t ha-1) was recorded in T1 which was statistically similar with T5 (4.13 t ha-1) whereas lowest grain yield (3.67 t ha-1) was from sole PM. Similarly, N content in grain and N, K content in straw were also showed similar trend. S content in grain and P, S content in straw were higher in 75 % of recommended dose of S + 5 ton PM /ha compared to other fertilizer treatments. An experiment was conducted in the field laboratory of the Department of Crop Botany, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, to investigate the effect of foliar application of Miyodo on morphology, yield contributing characters and yield of T. aman rice cv. BR-11. The concentrations of Miyodo used were 2 mgL-1, 3 mgL-1, 4 mgL-1 and 5mgL-1 with a control. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Application of Miyodo by spraying at 45 days after transplanting significantly enhanced plant height, number of tillers and effective tillers, number of leaves and leaf area, size of flag leaf, total dry matter, panicle length, number of total grains and filled grains, 1000-grain weight, grain yield, straw yield, and harvest index. The result showed that the application of 5 mgL-1 Miyodo produced the highest grain yield of BR-11 compared to other concentrations as well as control. However, further study is needed to determine the higher concentration limit of Miyodo in maximizing the growth and yield of T. aman rice cv. The experiment was conducted during spring summer seasons of 2013 and 2014 conducted at Research Farm of Vegetable Science, CCS HAU, in summer season. There were three spacing, three fertilizer levels and two varieties in split-split plot design with three replications. Growth parameters of okra crop were significantly affectedby spacing, fertilizer and varieties. Highest plants were observed in wider spacing with fertilizer application of 187.5 kg N + 75kg P2O5 + 60 kg K2O per hectare in variety HBT-49-1. However, numbers of branches were highest in variety Hisar Unnat. Yield attributes like first fruiting node, intermodal length, fruit length and diameter etc. were highest in variety HBT-49-1 resulting in highest fruit yield (q/ha) in spacing 30 cm x 10 cm with the application of 187.5 kg N+75 kg P2O5 + 60 kg K2O per hectare. The seed yield attributes and yield was significantly affected by spacing, fertilizer and varieties. Finally, spacing 30 cm × 10 cm resulted in higher growth parameters, yield attributes and yield with the application of 187.5 kg N +75 kg P2O5 + 60 K2O in variety HBT-49-1 of okra.
