This systematic review aims to investigate the relationship between school principals’ leadership behaviours and teachers’ job satisfaction. With this purpose, studies that focused on this relationship in the literature were examined. Twenty-seven studies found in different databases (i.e. ERIC, WOS, SCOPUS and ULAKBİM) were included in the analysis. These studies mostly focused on the relationships between school principals’ transformational and interaction leadership behaviours and teachers’ job satisfaction. Additionally, job satisfaction was also studied in relation to servant leadership, ethical leadership, distributive leadership, individual- and task-oriented leadership and school leadership behaviours. Based on the findings of the studies examined, school principals’ transformation leadership behaviours were found to have stronger relationships with teachers’ job satisfaction compared to interactional leadership behaviours and were an important predictor of job satisfaction. Negative relationships were revealed between laissez-faire leadership and job satisfaction. On the other hand, school principals’ servant leadership and ethical leadership behaviours were found to be important variables in ensuring job satisfaction. Lastly, school principals’ administrative behaviours that encourage participation and are flexible, sharing leadership at school, and exhibiting individual-oriented and supportive leadership behaviours were revealed to enhance teachers’ job satisfaction.

We examined how leadership style affects the relationship between new employee intention to leave (NEIL) and the consequent work performance of that employee. We focused on NEIL with employees who had begun work at a large hospitality firm in China, and tested the consequences of leadership style on their work performance. We compared the moderating effects of abusive and ethical leadership styles on the relationship between NEIL and the employees' consequent work performance. We collected survey data from responses from a sample of 355 leader–employee dyads, with 61 leaders supervising the groups of employees. Results showed that NEIL had a negative effect on the employees' consequent work performance. In addition, an abusive leadership style increased this negative effect, whereas an ethical leadership style helped to neutralize the effect.

Abstract. This study examines the relationship between students' personality and intelligence scores with their preferences for the personality profile of their lecturers. Student ratings (N = 136) of 30 lecturer trait characteristics were coded into an internally reliable Big Five taxonomy ( Costa & McCrae, 1992 ). Descriptive statistics showed that, overall, students tended to prefer conscientious, open, and stable lecturers, though correlations revealed that these preferences were largely a function of students' own personality traits. Thus, open students preferred open lecturers, while agreeable students preferred agreeable lecturers. There was evidence of a similarity effect for both Agreeableness and Openness. In addition, less intelligent students were more likely to prefer agreeable lecturers than their more intelligent counterparts were. A series of regressions showed that individual differences are particularly good predictors of preferences for agreeable lecturers, and modest, albeit significant, predictors of preferences for open and neurotic lecturers. Educational and vocational implications are considered.
