Abstract Background Heart failure is a common and chronic heart condition with high prevalence and mortality rates. This debilitating disease as an important predictor of health outcomes is directly related to patients' quality of life. Given that one of the main goals of heart failure treatment is to promote patients' quality of life and health status, conducting effective nursing interventions seems to be necessary in this regard. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the effect of educational intervention based on Pender's health promotion model on quality of life and health promotion in patients with heart failure. Methods This is an experimental study in which a total of 80 patients with heart failure were recruited and randomly allocated to two groups of intervention and control (n = 40 in each group). The educational program was designed based on Pender's health promotion model and then provided for the patients in the intervention four subgroups (10 person in each group) during six sessions. Data were collected at three time-points of before, immediately after, and three months after the intervention using a demographic questionnaire, the Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire (MLHFQ), and the Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP-II). Data were then analyzed using SPSS Statistics for Windows, version 17.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, Ill., USA) and p value less than 0.05 was taken as statistically significant. Results Based on the results of the present study, no statistically significant difference was shown in terms of demographic characteristics between the two groups. It was also indicated that there was a statistically significant difference in the mean scores of all dimensions of quality of life (except in the physical dimension) between the two groups so that the overall mean score of quality of life increased significantly in the intervention group after the intervention (p < .05). Moreover, there were significant increases in the mean scores of health-promoting behaviors (except in the domain of physical activity) in the intervention group compared to the control group (p < .05) after intervention. Conclusions This study demonstrates a trend that Pender's health promotion model is effective in improving the quality of life of patients with heart failure except of the physical dimension, and strengthening their health-promoting behaviors in all dimensions except of the physical activity dimension.

Children aged 2-4 years are a golden period as a basis for the next development. Because the primary care role of children under five is by families, it is necessary to do family-based health promotion. Model health promotion information-motivation-behavioral skills s implemented in the form of family assistance activities. Namely the family assistance model by providing information, motivation, and examples of behavioral skills in parenting children under five. The purpose of this research is knowing the effectiveness family-based model of health promotion models in formation-motivation-behavioral (IMB) skill s to the quality of life for toddlers 2-5 years. Pure design experiment using Randomized Controlled Trial with pre-post test with a single-blind control group. The research subjects are toddlers aged 2-4 years many 60, who meet the criteria have significant congenital abnormalities and not multiple. The instrument of this study is a Guide to family-based health promotion models, with the research instrument being the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL ™) Questionnaire. The health promotion model of information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) is carried out in the form of family mentoring activities to improve the quality of life of children aged 2-4 years ( p-value0,000). The average enhancement child's quality of life score, more large ( mean difference 16.90, p-value 0,000 ) in the group experiment ( IMB Model ) compared the control group. External variables that affect the quality of life of children aged 2-4 years are income and parenting parents.

This study was the first institution-wide health promotion program in Taiwan to apply the five priority areas for taking action in public health highlighted in the Ottawa Charter for diabetes patients. We aimed to improve the quality of home care received by diabetic patients by training health care professionals in health promotion. This program consisted of developing personal skills, reorienting health services, strengthening community actions, creating supportive environments, and building healthy public policy. It was applied in the Yunlin Christian Hospital located in central Taiwan from August 2011 to November 2011. A health-promoting education course consisting of weight control, diabetes care, and quality management for diabetes was developed and applied to all 323 hospital staff. Then, hospital staff volunteers and diabetes patients were recruited to participate in the program. A total of 61 staff volunteers and 90 diabetes patients were involved in this study. Staff volunteers were trained to participate in communities to provide care and guidance to patients with diabetes. The World Health Organization Quality of Life(WHOQOL)-BREF-Taiwan Version questionnaires were investigated before and after implementation of this program for the patients. A health-promoting lifestyle profile questionnaire was filled by the staff. The investigation data were then analyzed by statistical methods. The diabetes patients experienced a significant increase in their satisfaction with health and health-related quality of life as well as significant improvements in health-promotion and self-management behaviors (p < 0.05). In addition, staff volunteers significantly consumes food from the five major groups than the other staff (p < 0.05). Various improvements in health-promoting behaviors were observed amongst the hospital staff and the diabetic patients. Our project could be a reference for other medical organizations to implement an institution-wide health-promotion program for diabetic patients.

Ensuring multiple sclerosis (MS) patients’ adherence to therapy is often challenging, but it is crucial to their survival and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The aim of the present study was to outline connections between adherence, physical and mental HRQoL, levels of psychological readiness to engage in a treatment, levels of social support, anthropometric, socio-demographic and clinical factors in patients suffering from MS. This cross-sectional study involved a sample of 237 Italian MS patients. A survey was conducted with a structured self-administered online questionnaire using validated measures of quality of life, adherence to therapy and anthropometric, socio-demographic, psychological and clinical variables. A path analysis was used to test the overall structure of the associations between the variables. The pathway indicates a positive association between mental health index and a stronger degree of engagement and being or having been in a long-term relationship. Physical health index was positively associated with age, having an occupation, and having a specific form of MS. Having had relapses in the previous year raised the odds of better adherence to therapy, while an increase in Body Mass Index (BMI) reduced them. Our findings could help in the management of MS patients, promoting behavioral interventions that take the psychological and socio-demographic peculiarities of each patient into account with a view to improving their adherence to therapy.
