This study aimed at identifying the status and obstacles of scientific research in Jordanian higher education institutions as perceived by vice presidents, deans and vice deans of the scientific research departments. In addition to differences in status and obstacles, pursuant to the study variable, this is the institution type.The sample composed of (139) faculty members and all 27 vice presidents, deans and vice deans of the scientific research departments at all 27 Jordanian universities.Having reviewed all interviews and some literature, the researcher prepared a questionnaire, which was tested for validity and reliability of the questionnaire, and used five-likert scale to measure the status and the obstacles of the scientific research in higher education in Jordan. The study showed the following findings; The scientific research status mean was 2.19 and that was low result, also the themes have almost the same results where the research planning got the highest among the themes and the research support the lowest. The scientific research obstacles mean was 2.87 and that was low result, also the themes have almost the same results while doing research for academic promotion got the highest among the themes and doing research for developing human knowledge and enjoyment the lowest. In the light of these results, the study provides a number of recommendations that could reduce the obstacles for funding of scientific research in higher education.

In work the theoretical bases and dynamics of processes of modernization of the Russian higher education are studied, conditions and specifics of its last cycle reveal (the end of XX – the beginning of the 21st centuries). The attention to global character, interaction with the international educational space is paid. The professional community of teachers (scientific and pedagogical workers) of the higher education (HE) acts as an object. Research objective – identification of a state, opportunities and conditions of realization of resource potential of teachers of higher education institutions for ensuring modernization of higher education. Studying of problems of resource ensuring modernization was carried out from positions of system, constructivist, resource, activity and structurally functional approaches. The empirical base was made by materials of the all-Russian sociological researches: questionnaire, expert interviews. The new scientific idea that the speed of modernization changes of system of the higher education depends on a state and conditions of updating of resource potential of community of teachers of higher education institutions is developed; their resource potential develops unevenly and depends on inclusiveness degree in an educational vertical and the status of higher education institution. Concepts of resources and resource potential of modernization of education are entered, their substantial characteristics are opened. Recommendations about optimization of this process are submitted.

The objective of the study was to develop a questionnaire named IPQ (Institutional Performance Questionnaire) that measures the institutional performance of higher educational institutions. The scale comprised 11 subscales: Mission Statement and Goal (5 items), Planning and Evaluation (3 items), Organization & Governance, (3 items), Integrity (3 items), Faculty (3 items), Students (2 items), Institutional Resources (3 items), Academic Programs and Curricula (3 items), Public Disclosure and Transparency (2 items), Assessment & Quality Assurance (8 items), and Student Support Services (3 items). In total, 25 faculty members of the universities were selected by multistage stratified sampling, response to the questionnaire. The questionnaire was pilot tested and the Cronbach's alpha for the entire questionnaire was .951; for each subscale, alpha ranged from .623 to 0.823. Exploratory factor analysis was utilized to establish the construct validity of institutional performance in higher education institutions Findings of the study confirmed the validity and reliability of the IPQ (Institutional Performance Questionnaire).

One of the great challenges facing Christian higher education is the role and impact of student behavior codes in furthering institutional values and inculcating those values in the students served by such institutions. The perspectives of administrators, faculty members, and students regarding the rationale for codes of conduct at their institution are examined. To obtain data, administrators, faculty members, and students at two Christian liberal arts institutions completed questionnaires and participated in follow-up interviews based on individual responses to the questionnaire. The views of all three groups are described as they see behavior codes relating to institutional purpose and the development and implementation of such codes.

The article scrutinizes the ideas about the academic communities typical for the Latin world of the 13th and 14th centuries. It focuses on the ‘metaphorical vocabulary’ of academic corporations that was formed at that time within the framework of the Ars Dictaminis and was widely used to substantiate the status of university communities. These metaphors significantly supplemented the vague legal concepts that described academic communities (studium/studium generale, universitas). The most widespread metaphors of higher education institutions included such images as house of scholarship, seeds of knowledge, and treasure. All of them had deep roots in the Holy Scripture, but became widespread thanks to ‘exemplary’ texts included in rhetorical manuals and summae. With their help, social reality was interpreted within the framework of rhetoric as an epistemic system, often overlapping with the spheres of law and theology. The paper considers these metaphors in the context of their distribution, within the networks of local political and cultural ties drawing on cases of two Iberian universities – those of Lisbon (founded between 1288 and 1290) and Lleida (founded in 1300).

This chapter addresses the challenges associated with college faculty members crossing international borders to be employed by higher education institutions. This process includes challenges associated with the technical aspects of recruiting and hiring faculty members of different nationalities and then the subsequent challenges of understanding cultural dynamics in the classroom and how faculty members can be prepared to deal with these cultural differences. The chapter includes a practical analysis of these issues and concludes with recommendations for the stronger institutional integration of transnational faculty to higher education institutions.

Quality management in higher education is one of the measures that institutions put in place to ensure that courses and programs that are offered meet international and accreditation standards. This chapter examines how academic leaders can promote and manage quality in higher education institutions. Higher education institutions and senior faculty members appear to improve performance by ensuring that quality assurance unit enforces effective delivery to increase students and parents' satisfaction. Promotion of quality and the management of quality is not about long service but an exhibition of effective leadership that will help higher education institutions to navigate through the turbulence of challenges facing higher education institutions today. To achieve this, the academic leader is supposed to assist institutions to pursue their vision and mission to enable them to effectively manage quality.

This chapter describes the digital competencies that have become essential in the workforce and how higher education institutions (HEIs) are trying to keep up in a moment in which faculty members have been acquiring digital skills alongside students. A field study was conducted with faculty from HEIs in Mexico to identify the differences between the digital skills that faculty possessed previous to the pandemic and those acquired as a result of remote work. It also analyzes the digital tools they have been provided with to perform their jobs, the training they have received, and the digital skills that they still lack to help students acquire the digital competencies demanded in the workforce. The objective is to identify areas of opportunity and create general guidelines that will help develop critical digital skills. A literature review of the most relevant aspects of digital dexterity and digital competence in higher education (HE) is presented. An analysis of the current context and how it is producing changes faster than before is also included.
