This paper contains the analysis of Compressible Natural Gas combustion process in engine dedicated to diesel oil. The analysis was performed on the basis of the numerical results of two systems for methane dosing. The first simulation considers the CNG delivery into the suction manifold, and subsequent production of air-fuel mixture as well as separate combustion model of a homogenous mixture. The second simulation comprises a numerical application of the fuel injection directly into the combustion chamber. Therefore it is also a simulation of a combustion process. Among the numerical results conducted with the aid of Computational Fluid Dynamics the following parameters were selected for the combustion qualitative evaluation in terms of mechanical, heat and flow properties: fields of pressure and temperature, mass fraction of the fuel and turbulence intensity. All test were conducted on the engine adopted to be fed with CNG.

The paper presents the research designed to develop a HCCI (Homogenous Charge Compression Ignition) engine starting from a spark ignition engine platform. The chosen test engine was a single cylinder, four strokes provided with a carburettor. The results of experimental research data obtained on this version were used as a baseline for the next phase of the research. In order to obtain the HCCI configuration, the engine was modified, as follows: the compression ratio was increased from 9.7 to 11.5 to ensure that the air – fuel mixture auto-ignite and to improve the engine efficiency; the carburettor was replaced by a direct fuel injection system in order to control precisely the fuel mass per cycle taking into account the measured intake air-mass; the valves shape were modified to provide a safety engine operation by ensuring the provision of sufficient clearance beetween the valve and the piston; the exchange gas system was changed from fixed timing to variable valve timing to have the possibilities of modification of quantities of trapped burnt gases. The cylinder processes were simulated on virtual model. The experimental research works were focused on determining the parameters which control the combustion timing of HCCI engine to obtain the best energetic and ecologic parameters.

The work evaluates the combustion of natural gas in a cylindrical furnace. The Generalized Finite Rate Reaction Model was selected for predicting the reactions. Two situations were considered. In the first case the combustion of the fuel was predicted by a single global reaction, and in the second case a two-step reaction was considered for predicting the combustion process. The conservation equations of mass, momentum, energy and chemical species were solved by the finite volume procedure, with the commercial software FLUENT. The turbulent flow was modeled by employing the two differential equation κ–ε model. The solutions obtained with the two reaction models, for the temperature and species concentration fields, were compared among them and against experimental data available in the literature. It was observed that the two-step reaction model represents better the physical phenomena, showing a better agreement with the experimental data.

Injection behaviors of internal combustion engines are very substantial fact that provides developments to future strategies about optimizing the engine and fuel parameters. During the combustion process, pilot diesel injection technique is more preferable option while using alternative gas fuels in a diesel engine. In this experimental study, a 3.6 L commercial, four stroke, four cylinders and mechanical fuel pump non-modified diesel test engine operated with hydroxy (HHO) and compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel mixtures under 25% and 75% (vol/vol), respectively. Diesel fuel injection quantities were reduced with the help of steeping motor devices which mounted on mechanical fuel pump plunger pin. Sensitive removes of steeping motor, plunger pin twisted clockwise 360°, 720° and 1080°, respectively. Comparisons of engine performance and exhaust emissions were explained briefly and illustrated via graphs. As a result, 720° clockwise twisted pin is the optimum point for experimental fuel pump plunger while using 25HHOCNG fuel mixtures.

Traditional power plants still the dominating power source for all the major industries and powerdemanding facilities, the most crucial facility for the whole plant operations is the industrial boiler which generatessteam, heating energy or electrical power. Boilers generate energy by combustion. The improvement of combustion efficiency could greatly influence the energy consumption and will make the boiler more efficient and cleaner (less emissions), that’s why it is important to understand the combustion and thermal flow behaviours inside the boiler. Beside experimental testing, computational work nowadays becoming more and more important due to lower cost and acceptable accuracy with minimum error. With numerical calculations method, the computational model created by a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software could reduce a lot of trial and error on experimental work. In this paper utilizing the ANSYS FLUENT 19.1 software to make crate the combustion model. The ratio of air to fuel mixture, the equivalency factor, mass flow rate of the mixture, velocity, mass fractions of the mixture components (fuel and air) and their temperatures will serve as the input parameter while the exhaust gase component mass fraction, temperature, mass flow and velocity will be monitored.

The numerical simulations of reactive turbulent flows and heat transfer in an industrial slab reheat furnace in which the combustion air is highly preheated have been carried out. The influence of the ratio of the air and fuel injection velocities on the NOx production rate in the furnace has also been studied numerically. A moment closure method with the assumed β probability density function (PDF) for mixture fraction was used in the present work to model the turbulent non-premixed combustion process in the furnace. The combustion model was based on the assumption of instantaneous full chemical equilibrium. The turbulence was modeled by the standard k-ε model with a wall function. The numerical simulations have provided complete information on the flow, heat, and mass transfer in the furnace. The results also indicate that a low NOx emission and high heating efficiency can be achieved in the slab reheat furnace by using low NOx regenerative burners. It is found that the air/fuel injection velocity ratio has a strong influence on the NOx production rate in the furnace.

As a consequence of the endless price growing of oil, and oil derivate fuels, automotive industry is experiencing a concerning decreasing in sales. Accordingly, in order to meet customer needs, there is every day a greater interest in solutions for increasing engine efficiency. On the other hand the growing attention to environmental problems leads to increasingly restrictive regulations, such as European EURO 4 and EURO 5. Direct injection of gaseous fuel has emerged to be a high potential strategy to tackle both environmental and fuel economy requirements. However since the electronic gaseous injection technology is rather new for automotive applications, limited experience exists on the optimum configuration of the injection system and the combustion chamber. To facilitate the development of these applications computer models are being developed to simulate gaseous injection, air entrainment and the ensuing combustion. This paper introduces a new method for modelling the injection process of gaseous fuels in multi-dimensional simulations. The proposed model allows holding down grid requirements, thus making it compatible with the three-dimensional simulation of an internal combustion engine. The model is validated and calibrated by comparing numerical results with available experimental data. To highlight the potential applications, some numerical results of the three-dimensional combustion process in a gas engine are presented.
