Perinatal pathologies serve as the basis for a great variety of diseases in teenagers and adults including the especially frequent and important diseases of the nervous system which is vulnerable during the period of ante- and early postnatal development, especially against the background of genetic predisposition to it. This leads to development of pathology also manifesting at later stages of life. In this connection, the review presents molecular and genetic predictors of endothelial dysfunction and impairment of angio- and neurogenesis during the perinatal period. The article presents facts related to the influence of endothelial dysfunction as a trigger for pregnancy pathology and fetal-programmed diseases. A discussion regarding the contribution made by the congenital and by the acquired into basic mechanisms of fetal development including the brain and its pathologies

The inherited leukodystrophy Canavan disease arises due to a loss of the ability to catabolize N-acetylaspartic acid (NAA) in the brain and constitutes a major point of focus for efforts to define NAA function. Accumulation of noncatabolized NAA is diagnostic for Canavan disease, but contrasts with the abnormally low NAA associated with compromised neuronal integrity in a broad spectrum of other clinical conditions. Experimental evidence for NAA function supports a role in white matter lipid synthesis, but does not explain how both elevated and lowered NAA can be associated with pathology in the brain. We have undertaken a systematic analysis of postnatal development in a mouse model of Canavan disease that delineates development and pathology by identifying markers of oxidative stress preceding oligodendrocyte loss and dysmyelination. These data suggest a role for NAA in the maintenance of metabolic integrity in oligodendrocytes that may be of relevance to the strong association between NAA and neuronal viability. N-acetylaspartic acid is proposed here to support lipid synthesis and energy metabolism via the provision of substrate for both cellular processes during early postnatal development.

Epilepsy is a disease arising from morphological and metabolic changes in the brain. Approximately 60% of patients with seizures can be controlled with 1 antiepileptic drug (AED), while in others, polytherapy is required. The AED treatment affects a number of biochemical processes in the body, including increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). It is indicated that the duration of AED therapy with some AEDs significantly accelerates the process of atherosclerosis. Most of AEDs increase levels of homocysteine (HCys) as well as may affect concentrations of new, nonclassical risk factors for atherosclerosis, that is, asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) and homoarginine (hArg). Because of the role of these parameters in the pathogenesis of CVD, knowledge of HCys, ADMA, and hArg concentrations in patients with epilepsia treated with AED, both pediatric and adult, appears to be of significant importance.

Background: This brief article focuses on highlighting the importance of possible neuropsychological manifestations among the Coronavirus Disease 19 (COVID-19) survivors. Studies have evidenced that like other Coronaviruses, COVID-19 is highly contagious and also responsible for the development of mild to severe respiratory symptoms. As COVID-19 is a recently emerged pandemic that has resulted in more than six hundred thousand deaths around the globe as of July 2020 and most of the researches has focused on the physical manifestations. Purpose: The purpose of this review article was to highlight the importance of COVID-19 infection in perspective to mental health in those patients who are survived. Methodology: For this purpose, an intensive literature review was conducted through different scientific search engines including PubMed, Google Scholars, Science Direct, etc. Results and Conclusion: There is very limited data available on manifestations including psychological and neuropsychological. Studies have shown that viral infections including viruses from Coronaviridae have been implicated in the nervous system including the brain. So, it is important to investigate the post-COVID-19 infection in neuropsychological aspects. Such studies will highlight the importance of post-COVID-19 complications and will also help in redesigning the treatment plan for mental health. Twenty-six monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) developed against rabbit corneal proteokeratan sulfate (PKS), were used to evaluate immunohistochemically the ocular distribution of PKS during prenatal and early postnatal development in rabbits. These MAbs were directed against epitopes located in the keratan sulfate (KS) chains of the proteoglycan (SundarRaj et al., 1985). Staining of cryostat sections of the eyes was carried out using an indirect peroxidase-conjugated technique. Only one of the MAbs reacted with the presumptive corneal region at day 13 or 16 of fetal development. By day 20, more MAbs reacted with the corneal stroma. There were distinct differences, however, in the distribution of the epitopes recognized by the various MAbs. A few of them stained only the posterior region of the cornea, whereas others showed a decreasing staining gradient from the posterior to the anterior region. By day 24, all of the MAbs reacted with the corneal stroma, but some reacted also with the limbal region and with the conjunctival stromal matrix. One MAb also reacted with the conjunctival epithelial layer, but only at this stage of development. Conjunctival staining was more intense at day 28 of fetal development and at day 2 postnatally. KS was not detectable in the conjunctiva of adult rabbits with any of the MABs. These results suggest that although KS synthesis starts at very early stages of fetal development, there are progressive changes in its antigenic structure in specific regions of the cornea and conjunctiva during corneal development.

The aim of this study was to investigate the appearance, localization and density of ghrelin cells in the human stomach during prenatal development. For this purpose the antrum and corpus of embryos, fetuses and infants are stained immunohistochemically by the streptavidin-biotin technique. The presence of P/D1 cells at 11 weeks of fetal development, their highest density during the first detection and higher density in the corpus than in antrum, and their localization in the glandular base of stomach gland, all suggest that ghrelin plays a major role in the early stages of the developing stomach.
